A word from Capitol Grille - Hermitage Hotel - Nashville
Located in the century old Hermitage Hotel, the commitment to preservation continues in the Capitol Grille and Oak Bar. Relaxed, low key, and known as the place for Nashvillians “in the know”, the Capitol Grille is inspired by cultural sustainability. That is, preserving the past while using techniques of the present. Our commitment to using local food extends beyond just sourcing local. The ingredients are grown at the farm at Glen Leven, located just 5 miles from the Capitol Grille by Executive Chef and Farmer Tyler Brown. Brown creates a menu that shifts with the seasons, is inspired by what is the freshest and best available, and pays homage to historic Southern cuisine. The Capitol Grille actively supports and is involved with Share Our Strength, an organization whose mission is to end childhood hunger by 2015, the Chef’s Move to Schools program, as well as the Southern Foodways Alliance.

  • "My wife and I celebrated our two year anniversary here and everything was perfect. They all knew us by name and how long we'd been married. They even put rose petals on our table, very romantic. The food was incredible in every aspect. Great place to take a special someone for a lovely evening."

  • "The Hermitage lives up to it"s reputation. We were greeted by the valet when we arrived and our car was parked at the front door when we left after our concert. Our experience in the bar was the disappointing experience of our trip. Our drinks were inconsistent from the first to the second and the condiments requested were not delivered. The ambiance, dining service and dinner setting were a very positive experience. Our entries were served in in cast iron dishes which kept our dinner hot. We will definitely return for a future night in Nashville."

  • "This is an elegant restaurant with excellent service and a delightful choice of local, farm to table offerings. The food is excellent. This restaurant is a Nashville gem often overlooked by locals, which is a shame."

  • "We had a business dinner at the Capitol Grill. The ambiance was perfect. My husband has hearing problems and he was able to participate fully in our discussion. The noise level was fabulous...muted and quiet. We had a challenge with the oysters on the half shell and the waiter and manager took care of the situation immediately! They were both very professional and accommodating. Please do get the men to clear out their bathroom so the women can go in and see it. We were very impressed."

  • "The Hermitage/Capital Grille is for the ambiance. While the food is good, it certainly does not equal the price, but most people who stay there don't care about the price. The waiter had too many tables, even with all the help."

  • "We had company in town & took them to the Capitol Grille for lunch. I had only been there one other time & that was for dinner. I was surprised that the menu didn't offer a lot of choices. Also, I got the beef pastrami sandwich with potato salad. The pastrami itself was good but not a lot on the sandwich & there was so much sauerkraut that it totally overwhelmed the pastrami taste. Also, the potato salad was pretty bland. I expected a strong flavor since it was some type of onion potato salad. So, I was a little disappointed in my lunch. The others seemed to enjoy what they had. I would go back there but I'm not sure if I'd go for lunch."

  • "The only issue we had was that open table allowed a 5pm reservation but the place doesn't open till 530. It's across from TPAC so dinner and a show was the goal. They accommodated us by seating us at 515 but we felt slightly rushed to make the 630 show. I had even called the day before to confirm due to the different times between open table and the website. The 5pm time was confirmed by both. It worked out but was embarrassing to say the least."

  • "Steak was amazing like nothing I've ever eaten. service seemed quiet tho, The staff seemed like they had been beaten by the management. Beautiful interior and the mens bathroom was great too."

  • "Excellent food and service. Beautiful surroundings. Noise level too high for what is really a special occasion rather than routine dining restaurant.. Chosen because of close proximity to Tennessee Performing Arts and valet parking reasonably priced.Unusual items on menu to compliment their fine steak selections."

  • "The acoustics in the room made it possible for me to clearly hear many conversations that were happening around the room. I think it was caused by all of the arches in the ceiling. But at times it was like some of the conversations had a speaker phone. It was a bit weird. It made me really filter myself just in case people could hear my conversation. We had excellent service. Our server was on top of everything."

  • "A dear friend and I had tickets to Pink Martini and decided to try Capitol Grille for dinner. The food was outstanding. I tried a few things I wouldn't usually try. The scallops were cooked perfectly and enough for two people. The dessert was outstanding and their homemade ice creams were rich with the perfect amount of sweetness. The only disappointment was a side order of macaroni and cheese. It tasted rather bland and didn't taste like it had been seasoned or had a strong cheese added. The waiter tasted it in the back and agreed. The restaurant was very professional and removed it from my bill. Overall, great experience. Our waiter was wonderful."

  • "Waitstaff was pleasant but very rushed. One of us ordered the special, red snapper. It was inedible: undercooked and cold. The other four agreed that food was mediocre. It's a beautiful restaurant, but I won't go back and would not recommend. The doorman was very nice"

  • "We got there about half an hour early and the hostess suggested the bar until our table was ready. We said absolutely and she said she would come and get us at 6:15. Awesome. About 6:45 we had to go ask HER about our table and she casually said that it had been ready they are just required to mention the bar first. OK...slightly irritated. The atmosphere is very uncomfortable for two average people looking for an amazing meal. We felt as if we were at a country club and everyone around us was using wads of cash as dinner napkins. The lighting: way too bright, and the dining room was very noisy. Our server was not very personable at all. The food was just OK. I could have made the same thing at home one hundred times better. Not going back."

  • "Service is excellant. Sweet Onion bisque is a must. The filet is the real deal."
    Dined on 3/8/2014
  • "This is really a memorable restaurant. Just the history of the Hermitage Hotel is worth the trip. But besides that, you will find excellent food...much of it from their own farm. Everything is good and I love their experimentation. Their creamy onion soup is delicious. I had the duck and it was really nice. My husband had the pork chops and loved them. Try the popcorn/sea salt ice cream for dessert. You won't be disappointed."
    Dined on 3/4/2014
  • "After reading reviews about the farm to table dining experience I was disappointed. It was just another "hotel" restaurant. The duck was tough, the brussell sprouts were under cooked, and overall the food was underwhelming and dining room was noisy. I would not recommend if you are a foodie."
    Dined on 3/1/2014
  • "Both my husband and I ordered the filet which the menu says is "simply prepared". When the steak came it was in a skillet swimming in butter and Rosemary. The flavor was way too strong. No where on the menu did it say would be served with Rosemany, so had no chance to request it not be. After food was served, service became almost nonexistant. Go for a drink, hotel is worth seeing, but eat elsewhere."

  • "We had some friends in town staying at Opryland for a conference. They needed to get "out of the bubble" so we met at Capitol Grille. They loved everything! The food was terrific, service wonderful and very comfortable for us to catch up on a few years worth of time. They also loved the men's restroom. We love sharing our history and first class restaurant with many out of town guests."

  • "I mentioned when I made the reservation that my husband and I would be celebrating our 40th anniversary the night we would be dining at The Hermitage, From the moment we arrived until we picked up our coats at departure, the staff offered excellent service, the food was superb, and the ambience could not have been better. Thanks for a memorable evening."

  • "My daughter and I had to be in Nashville for "Advocacy Day on the Hill". We love to have a great dinner when we get to come to Nashville. The restaurant was fabulous! From the waiter, the wine, the food - we had a wonderful time! This restaurant is a must if you are in the area!"

  • "We liked the atmosphere of the Hermitage Hotel with it's interesting architecture. Service from our waiter Dustin was excellent but, we were both a little disappointed in the overall quality of the food for the price it just wasn't quite good enough, I had the short rib which was a little tough and bland, although the duck and rabbit cold meat appetizer was good."

  • "I have been here on multiple occasions and every time I am there I have had the best experience. The food is absolutely amazing. The atmosphere is perfect for special occasions or even just a casual dining. I really enjoy every experience I have had with Capitol Grille."

  • "From the time your car is valet parked and as you descend the elegant stairs into a romantic elegant setting you know you are in for a special event. The service in every aspect is amazing. Kasi our server is one of the best we have had. Then along side her the team where so many make sure your every need is met makes it seem you are the only one they are serving. A good variety of bread and real butter appeared and disappeared quickly. We had the onion soup which make me excited for all else that would follow. The Caesar was excellent then we each had the snapper special. Flavors and combinations were world class then we finished with homemade ice cream. One hour and thirty minutes of being pampered mades us want to return quickly."

  • "As always, a perfect place for lunch and great conversation. The service is excellent…always present at the right moments…the food is great, especially if one begins with the onion bisque soup! And…don't forget the cap of the experience: the best coffee (press pot) in town."

  • "Food and ambience we very good as we have come to expect. Service fell really short this visit. I don't know if the young lady was new or just didn't care. My wife ordered the First Course for Brunch and it finally arrived when all the main courses showed up. A First Course comes First. There were several times we had to ask for things from one of the bus boys or another server as our server would just vanish. I would think after the first couple of times someone would have told her to step it up. Finally it took forever to get the bill. All in all a not very good experience for a hotel classified as a 5 star. I will say, this is the first bad experiece we have had there following several wonderful ones but now it's the most recent."

  • "My wife and I recently dined at the Capital Grille to celebrate our anniversary. The table was sprinkled with rose petals, we were offered a complimentary glass of champagne. Both were very nice touches. The food was fantastic, there were several chef prepared items and a wide selection of fare for the less adventurous. I would highly recommend the rabbit. The deserts were to die for. Just a wonderful evening."

  • "Our meals were superb. My husband had the trout, which he pronounced the best he'd ever had. I had the scallops--I order these every time I eat at Capitol Grille because they're excellent!"
