A word from Capitol Grille - Hermitage Hotel - Nashville
Located in the century old Hermitage Hotel, the commitment to preservation continues in the Capitol Grille and Oak Bar. Relaxed, low key, and known as the place for Nashvillians “in the know”, the Capitol Grille is inspired by cultural sustainability. That is, preserving the past while using techniques of the present. Our commitment to using local food extends beyond just sourcing local. The ingredients are grown at the farm at Glen Leven, located just 5 miles from the Capitol Grille by Executive Chef and Farmer Tyler Brown. Brown creates a menu that shifts with the seasons, is inspired by what is the freshest and best available, and pays homage to historic Southern cuisine. The Capitol Grille actively supports and is involved with Share Our Strength, an organization whose mission is to end childhood hunger by 2015, the Chef’s Move to Schools program, as well as the Southern Foodways Alliance.

Diner Reviews
  • "Dined with friends this past week. Freshest garden salad with grilled peaches and dark cherries followed by the sea scallops that were cooked simply as they should be - perfection! Friends enjoyed the pork dish and the sable fish. We would have had dessert but had concert tickets and did not have time. Will definitely be back next time we visit Nashville."

  • "It's a beautiful (and historic) room with excellent food mostly farm-to-table. The only complaint I had was the presence of a wandering video crew complete with sound boom that was interviewing diners last Saturday night. They asked if we would be willing to participate, and they were quite polite about my decision to demur, but their presence and grubby appearance detracted from the experience."

  • "Not only do we appreciate their fresh, sustainable, delicious food--we also appreciate the chef accommodating our food allergies. Thank you for the wonderful dining experience!"

  • "Definitely a foodie place where the servers know where your food was sourced (usually in Tennessee or thereabouts) and how it was raised. Halibut appetizer was outstanding as was the vegetable succotash. Basement setting is so-so on charm but the hotel is beautiful. I"

  • "The attention we received from Kasie our server was outstanding. However the steak was not prepared as well as it could of been. My wife likes her steak well done. When the steak arrived it was pink in he center. After a second attempt the meat was burnt on the top and tough to chew. The steak should of been butterflied or perhaps cooked with less direct heat. The macaroni and cheese and cream potatoes were excellent. The carrots were too sweet for our preference. Overall it was a good experience."

  • "I look forward to taking out of town guests to the Capitol Grille when the opportunity permits. The food is reliably good. The murals plus the elegant decor give the room an inviting and warm appearance. During the General Assembly session, it is the best place to pop in for lunch and when downtown for a performance in the adjacent Performing Arts Center, wonderful for a nice supper in the dining room or the Oak Bar."

  • "The server pushed the onion soup that was extremely delicious but so rich that it ruined the rest of the meal. The simply prepared scallops were cooked to perfection but so rich after the soup. Next time I'm going to order the burger. I saw it looked fantastic, would normally order a burger in a fancy restaurant like this but it might be the call."

  • "Delicious. Outstanding friendly service. Breath-taking building / room. We had a perfect birthday celebration."

  • "We enjoyed our food and our waiter was friendly without being intrusive, and attentive. At 10 a.m. it was not crowded, thus not noisy, which is good for people who do not hear well in crowds. Don't miss the award winning retro men's room (women can check it out too when it's determined to be empty!)"

  • "The Capitol Grill is always popular for business lunches. The service staff is professional and the food options are varied. Reservations are a breeze with Open Table. A real downtown gem."

  • "Enjoyed the dinner. It was our anniversary so they had pink rose petals on the table. We arrived on time and we were able to enjoy a drink at the bar first before seating. The hotel's architecture is so exquisite that you must view as many areas as possible! The food was fantastic! I had scallops and they were the best I have ever had even when visiting the beach. The onion soup is amazing and my husband had the salmon which he said was very good. The button mushrooms were very good also. The asparagus was the only dish that was not great. The dessert of blueberry cream cheese ice cream was served on a plate with Happy Anniversary written in chocolate. It was just beautiful and a very nice dining experience with excellent service!"

  • "I took my girlfriend here while on vacation and completely swept her off her feet. Such a great spot for a romantic, sit down dinner. Ask for Jeff if you're not the type of couple who doesn't typically go fancy dinners, he's funny and easy going ;)"

  • "The Capitol Grille has the most standing service, delicious food and presentation. From the minute we arrived we felt so special and blessed to have made our reservation at the Capital Grille to celebrate our 50th Anniversary."

  • "The service and ambiance at the Capitol Grille were exceptional - perfect for a special occasion. Food was very good although we felt didn't rise to the level we expected. We had the Sweet Corn Bisque and Poached Egg for appetizer which were good but not exceptional as we have for similar dishes elsewhere - actually felt the appetizer list was limited and not overly inviting. The Farm Lamb and Rib Eye for main were very good, particularly the lamb. Overall we enjoyed Capitol Grille as staff were well versed in menu and very attentive, ambiance is excellent and food was enjoyable."

  • "We had seafood and beef and several appetizers. The quality of the ingredients were at the highest level as was the preperation. We also enjoyed excellent service."

  • "You don't just eat at the Captiol Grille, you experience it. There is a lot of "farm to table" buzz these days, but I honestly appreciate local, fresh food not frozen or trucked hundreds of miles to get to me. This means the menu varies seasonally, even day-to-day, but this is the beauty of a place like this. Every meal is a treasure waiting to be discovered. While not "kid-friendly" per se, they do have a nice kids' menu with staples like mac and cheese and chicken fingers, but the upscale version of them. Although, as much as a mac and cheese aficionado as my daughter is, she took one bite of my lamb and finished my dinner instead! They know how to make your table feel special, the service is always as amazing as the meal."

  • "Pleasantly surprised - excellent menu with many creative choices. Charcuterie plate was wonderful, and all in-house cured meats. Onion soup was delicious. We were impressed that vegetables, etc., come from the hotel's farm, but think they could have been prepared and presented with a little more imagination. We were even more impressed that the beef comes from the hotel's own cattle farm, but again were disappointed that the ribeye wasn't aged -- it definitely needed to be dry aged."

  • "Always love capital grill and have been there many times for special occasions. Service was awesome! Food was sooo good! The only bad thing our table was next to a column and was too close to the table for 4 next to us. Felt like we were eating with them."

  • "The Capitol Grille is the best restaurant in Nashville, without a doubt. The food and service are impeccable. "

  • "Though they were apologetic and did not charge us for our first course it took 35 minutes to arrive. My wife enjoyed her quail dish but my lamb dish was very mediocre with the sautéed vegetables being on the burned side. The service was attentive and excellent. He apologized twice for the delay in starting the meal"

  • "Enjoyed a delicious dinner before a show only parking once! We arrived at 5:30 so we'd have plenty of time. Probably could've come at 6 & made it fine. Wait staff was top notch. The bread basket seemed extra special with 3 types to choose from. The onion bisque delicious. My husbands ribeye was huge & flavored well. My halibut was lovely. Decided to order desert because we had extra time. Key lime pie was not traditional but heavy on flaky pastry - still good. "

  • "Service is attentive and helpful. The menu is a little odd. I had scallops and a button mushroom side. Pretty wonderful. Staff touted a Pinot that is really pretty awful. The whole farm raised, gingham and vest theme is really not that much fun at this price level. Kind of Cracker Barrel-ish. Good food, nice room."

  • "Food was good not outstanding. We tried many different dishes, you can do better in Nashville. Waitstaff was lacking, for example we had to wait to order wine with dinner. When asked about the menu, we had to drag information out of him. Overall, an expensive & lovely restaurant with good food and mediocre staff. Go elsewhere if you want some of the exciting food Nashville has to offer."

  • "Found it eerie that there was no music playing in this Music City staple. It made me nervous to talk. Love the scene in the bar and the dining room room, but needs more of a vibe. "

  • "We were very disappointed in our experience. We have been to the Capitol Grill several times and always enjoyed the food, service and ambiance. We really built up our visit with some friends from out of town. We were really shocked at the level of food and service."

  • "Ambience and food were very good. All service staff including valet were very friendly and helpful. The Hermitage architecture is wonderful. It appeared that all patrons in the restaurant were treated in the same manner. We would recommend it to our friends for special occasions or otherwise."

  • "We had a very good meal during our visit here. Majority of the food is "farm to table" and the menu is well laid out. Everything was very good and the perfect size portions. The service was the real highlight for us as it was very accommodating as well as professional and courteous. A great spot for a special night out as the space is very comfortable and elegant without being over the top. "

  • "Atmosphere is wonderful, service is great and food is amazing. A win for whatever occasion you might be celebrating or just a nice lunch or dinner."
    Dined on 4/18/2014
  • "We brought guests from the Mississippi Coast for a special occasion and were disappointed in the following specific ways: Only the filet steak order was considered very good. The rabbit was dry and a difficult presentation for the guest to carve. The scallops were considered acceptable, but nothing exceptional. The trout was basically tasteless. The options seemed very strange and limited. The waiter was a delightful young college student who provided quality attentive service. The air conditioning was too cold. "

  • "My wife and I celebrated our two year anniversary here and everything was perfect. They all knew us by name and how long we'd been married. They even put rose petals on our table, very romantic. The food was incredible in every aspect. Great place to take a special someone for a lovely evening."
