Diner Reviews
  • "After reading all the negative reviews, my friends going to Music Circus matinee were worried. The food was delicious, well served, not slow, attractive menu, etc. However, it was dirty outside, so we kept our hands clean and didn't touch much. If they clean and repair that area, it should be a great lunch spot."

  • "Good restaurant with good food, but not equipped to handle a large lunch time crowd during a convention. Our party of 8 waited an hour for food. Other groups at the conference complained of the slow service. Probably better before or between peak times."

  • "Way too much noise for us seniors. Waited far too long for the food to arrive from the kitchen"

  • "Liked the food. Only complaint is it took forever for the food to arrive. Really, really slow."

  • "The good news- have the chorizo tacos. Delicious! The service was extremely slow. It took a good 5 minutes before we were approached by waitstaff. Took a long time to get our orders. Then we ordered another round of drinks to have before we had to leave for Music Circus. After 15 minutes we had to flag down the waiter to cancel our drink order and ask for the bill. The tables were sticky and the little flip easel on the table that advertised karaoke and other things was disgustingly grimy, like it had been handled by little kids with dirty hands. The menu was on a clipboard with old dirty pages that should have been reprinted and changed out last week. The burger was good, as was the brisket but it took too long to get our orders."

  • "We stumbled upon Capitol Garage for breakfast. It was very fresh and had great ingredients. The fresh fruit was berries not just the cantaloupe standard fruit mix. Would definitely recommend."

  • "This place is great for Brunch, the menu is varied and creative. I ordered the Brisket Benedict and it was amazing. Eggs were poached just right. The salmon croquettes were the best I wanted to order it again. I love that they are generous with the avocado. The mamosas were really bottomless. The staff was great. The place is super cute."

  • "I took my husband to Capital Garage for Fathers Day and we had an absolutely terrible experience. The place was not even full and it took them an hour and a half to get our food. A table of 7 people who were next to us came in a half hour after us and got their food before us. This was after much prodding from our waitress to the kitchen. And the food was just ok. The potatoes were unevenly cooked and the rest was just ok. Then, to make it worse they said our bill would be discounted for our long wait... They took off our $5 doughnuts... Really now. Not to mention this wait also doubled our parking bill to $10.50. Overall just a terrible experience which was so unfortunate especially since it was Father's Day."

  • "We thought that we would try The Garage after church last Sunday. My pastrami scramble with buttermilk jalapeños was superb and my sweetheart's eggs benedict were OK. Yes, we will go again even if the place is about as noisy as you can get. Dining outside allowed us to hear each other "Some of the Time"."

  • "I have been to Capital Garage a few times and I love the environment, prices and delicious food. I have many vegan friends so that is a plus as well! I love that Capital Garage offers reservations online and HAPPY HOUR ON A SATURDAY! That is quite a deal! The cocktail shaker drinks for $20 bucks are perfect for groups if it's only 2 people it saves a lot of money as well! I love the asparagus, chicken strips were fabulous, chicken sandwich, side salad, steak bowl, yum!! Thank you for a great Saturday! Walking distance to the convention center and $6 parking garage steps away! If you are in a hurry I recommend that you tell the waiter ahead of time because sometimes it can take a little while to get the bill. Thank you Capital Garage!!"

  • "The food was Very Good, Casual sandwiches but very delicious, a little slow on the service, considering there was only one other table. Good for groups, would go back"

  • "We chose Capital Garage because it was near the theater for which we had tickets to a play. The food was fine, the service informed and pleasant, the price reasonable. Not fantastic, but good (although the service was above average). My only negative comments are that 1) the paper menus were dirty, which wasn't very appetizing, and 2) service was attentive, but despite the fact that the restaurant wasn't particularly busy, it took a long time to get our food. Once it came, however, it was tasty and exactly as ordered."

  • "It was ladies night out; going to see "Wicked" at the Sacramento Community Center. We were looking for a nice, yet reasonable place to dine before the show. Capitol Garage was such a find in Midtown Sac! The food was delicious and it was fun to sit outside and dine. I had the Sac Town Burger... absolutely yummy and very generous portions! The burger was cooked to order and the fries were seasoned and cooked to perfection. Even the side salad had a special flare with shaved parmesan cheese and homemade croutons. My entire party was very satisfied with the food, the service, the prices and the overall feel of the restaurant. We will definitely be going back to Capitol Garage on our next trip into Sacramento."

  • "We keep coming back with the intent of trying the other delicious and original sounding items on the menu, but inevitably can't resist our favorites from before. Even so, we always have an enjoyable meal."

  • "Our party of 7 chose to eat here before going to the theatre. It's a funky place, with a menu that is a twist on American fare. Service was good, but a bit slow. I had a soda, but was never offered a refill. The food was delicious and prepared well. I had the chicken sandwich which was tasty and the roasted tomatoes are a great addition to a standard chicken sandwich. Other is our party enjoyed the caesar salad with fried jalapenos - a nice twist. It was my sister's birthday also, and they comped dessert for her, which was a unexpected touch."

  • "I came to this spot to celebrate my birthday. We all ordered the bottomless mimosas and we specifically came here for them. The mimosas were all orange juice. There was almost no champagne in them at all. We asked our server if we could get a properly made mimosa, he stated that the owner was there that day and that he would not allow for them to put more champagne in the mimosas. I was very unhappy with my service as far as that goes, our server was nice. Food was just okay. I would not recommend this place to anyone and wont be coming back here. If the owner is in the restaurant that should be more incentive to give your guests what they desire. "

  • "Took 58 minutes for us to receive our breakfast order. Service was very poor. Daughter had to ask for water refill 3 times before receiving a refill. After meal was over we asked for a container to take our leftovers home but after waiting 10 to 15 minutes for a container we gave up and just left. Have eaten at this restaurant several times before and have not had a problem. I think it was our waitress that caused the problem. Wish I had gotten her name."

  • "We had a group of 7 for brunch--service was generally slow at every stage: taking drink orders, taking food orders, bringing the check. And we never got refills on water or coffee. It's very loud inside; we would've sat outside but the patio can't accommodate a large group. The food was good but not spectacular. Biscuit sliders were a bit dry, and the biscuit would've been better as a side for another dish rather than a slider bun as it fell apart almost immediately. The pork rancheros dish was very tasty; benedicts were good as well. The potatoes were just okay. The fruit plate had a nice variety of fresh ripe fruit."

  • "We went at 5 pm so there were hardly any people yet. More of a bar scene. Not real clean, bathrooms needed attention. Food was just ok. The spinach salad we ordered should have been cold, but was more room temperature, didn't taste very fresh. The happy hour appetizer plate that featured 5 different items (2 different kinds of tacos, potato cakes, asparagus and cheese quesadilla) was only fair. The potato cakes with lime were our least favorite; not a good flavor in our opinion. We sat outside which was next to a parking garage that made an extremely loud annoying noise every time a car exited the garage. We probably won't be returning. Sorry."

  • "We took the mom's for Mothers day. The overall experience was positive. It is a little smaller than expected and really loud but the staff was very friendly and quick to offer assistance. Food was just okay but that may have been because of the special menu and the fast turn around of the tables. We would like to go again on a non-holiday and see the difference."

  • "Delicious breakfast items. Great vegetarian options. Damn garage next door was buzzing so loudly, it was very distracting on the patio. "
    Dined on 5/10/2014
  • "Our service was lovely and the food was perfect. The only issue we had was that, while we love to dine outside, the perfect spring breeze kept blowing tree bits into our food (which is more Sacramento's fault than anything). "

  • "thought we'd try Capitol Garage for Mother's Day brunch.....unfortunately, it didn't deliver the great reviews that I hard read. The atmostphere was horrible. Heavy wind outside yet, 'garage doors' were open so cold wind was blowing through restaurant. We were by front door - my young granddaughters, and the rest of us, were freezing. Halfway through our stay, they 'closed the garage doors'. The food mixed reviews. I had made the reservation after looking at their breakfast menu and saw their Monte Cristo, but after arriving was told that they had a limited special Brunch menu, that wasn't mentioned on their website when making the reservation. Mirmosa was okay; but the Bloody Mary was one of the best. Would try again for an evening meal."

  • "My son said to pick someplace to meet in Sacramento for brunch and gave me this restaurant as an option. I am so glad I picked it! I had the tofu scramble and it was absolutely delicious! Our waitress was fantastic and never let our mimosas get even close to empty :) Considering we were there at a very busy time and had such excellent service with great food means we will be back and happily recommend this place to anybody!"

  • "We went for a Sunday brunch with our grown kids.It was a bit of a shock when we got there and heard the noise level. We got used to that and it quieted down after a few tables left.It is a small and cozy place.Great service and food.We had a variety of dishes and they were all excellent.I wood recommend this to anyone who likes to try new places. You can't go wrong here.Just bring a fun loving attitude. And if you like mimosas with brunch, they are plentiful.Parking is not cheap so count on about $15.00 extra. But well worth it.We are seniors and were the old folks there that day as were our kids, but don't let that stop you from the experience. • "We had a party of 8 for Sunday Easter Brunch. Everyone in our group enjoy their brunch. No one had any negative comments about the event. The food was very good and priced within the market. We did not paid an overpriced brunch, where most of the places charges for Easter Brunch. This was a winner. Everyone in our party wishes to revisit Capitol Garage at other time."

  • "My husband, daughter and I had brunch at Capitol Garage. We had reservations and were seated immediately. It took a little while to get our order in but the place was packed. The waiter was pleasant and got everything right. We each had eggs Benedict (traditional, portobello mushroom, and brisket, respectively). All were delicious. The main detraction from our dining experience was the high noise level. It was so loud it was hard to carry on a conversation. I'd go again but if it was decent weather, I'd elect to sit outside."

  • "Terrible service. Took 45 minutes to get dinner and when it arrived it had been sitting awhile Pastrami dry, hamburger cold, leaky roof sandwich loaded with mayonnaise and finally Salad that was ordered with dressing on the side came dripping in dressing. Arrived at 6:00 as we had play tickets for 8:00 and arrived at the play which was just across the street at 7:55!"

  • "We had an excellent lunch experience, the appetizers and food was great. The appetizers were big enough to be full meals. All three of us enjoyed our food and we had other choices that we want to try next time. As a vegan, it was nice to have several vegan choices on the menu. The service was excellent as well. They opened the doors for outside and it was very comfortable. One of us also had eaten breakfast there and highly recommended it. Can't wait to go back and try breakfast as well."

  • "I decided to go to Capitol Garage last Sunday because they offer bottomless mimosas for $8 AND it was a second date with a guy I'd recently met. I am glad I made a reservation because it was quite busy and we were seated right away. The place is small, so it's better for intimate groups or couples. I ordered the Monte Cristo and my date ordered the Pork Rancheros and we both LOVED our meals. It was hard to decide what to order since everything looked great! They also have vegan/vegetarian and GF options, too. We also got the Donuggets (yeah, donut nuggets!) and they were awesome. The mimosas are great -- the servers constantly make sure you're filled up. Overall, I would absolutely go back! Can't wait to try their other menu items!"

  • "This was amazing with bottomless mimosas at only $6.00 added per person with purchase of food. The only thing is the table was a little bit dirty with some dried tomato caught between the iron wrought. However, they were super attentive to make sure out mimosas were bottomless and to us. Service was amazing. It was Sunday brunch so everyone was chatting about their plans and catching up. Not loud but rather lively. I'm sure the bottomless mimosas helped spur conversation. Lol definitely recommend making reservations through open table. It would have been a 25 minute wait if we hadn't."

  • "The restaurant was very crowded when we got there at noon on Saturday, so it was not surprising that the waiter sometimes was slow at checking back with our table. The noise level was deafening, it gave me a headache. I did not care for the breakfast potatoes which were deep-fried rather than pan-fried. The omelet was rubbery and the toast was too dark."

  • "This is the fifth time I have made an RSVP for my family to come celebrate a finish line victory in the Sacramento area; but, the experience this time might mean it's the last time. Previously, we've had no trouble with RSVP, even if it was RIGHTNEXTTOTHEDOOR (terrible!) but this time, they weren't even CLOSE to having it prepared and even continued to serve newcomers to the table that was supposed to be ours. We ended up bussing and putting together our own tables to seat ourselves when a VERY unkind server interrupted me to ask if I had a reservation and to complain that another table of hers needed the table WE were bussing. Needless to say, the only reason we stayed is because Garrett is a great server. And we were starving."
