  • "I love the consistency of the food at the Capital Grille. It's nice to know that my meal will taste the same from visit to visit. I had the Delmonico prepared Montreal style, and it was absolutely fabulous! Our group shared the au gratin potatoes, creamed corn with bacon and lobster mac and cheese, and all were equally tasty. Even the bread and butter were memorable, which is saying something! Our only complaint was that our service was a bit slow, but very pleasant. The restaurant was busy, but not slammed, so I'm not sure why our service was slow, unless that is norm for this location so people can conduct business. Prices are very reasonable for the location, and I will definitely return when I get the chance."

  • "I've dined at capital grilles in several states and I've always been impressed by the Ritz level of service. However the DC grille failed to live up to the high expectations I've come to appreciate. I wouldn't consider the service poor, but lacking in friendliness and attention to detail. To illustrate: (1) usually the servers are observant as to the color of trousers and switch out white napkins for dark to prevent lint, however this was not done or the offer even made (2) after each course crumbs are swiftly removed using a crumb comb, however not one comb was seen the entire night (3) although the assistant waiter never allowed our glasses to empty, not once did he reply to our phrases of gratitude nor show any kind facial expressions."

  • "My wife and I met some dear friends for a fun Saturday night dinner at the superb Capital Grille on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington. Server LC and her team did a terrific job keeping us hydrated, refilling drinks, and had great timing to know when to ask if we wanted to order the next course. She was attentive, but didn't make us feel rushed. Service was terrific! The calamari appetizer had the right amount of spice to it. Salads were crisp and flavorful. We did a variety of seafood entrees for a change, and they were all really good. We'll be back for steak soon! Thanks to all for making it such a fantastic evening."

  • "The food is always great at capital grille. The DC location was no exception. The only down side was a loud group seated near us. Didn't bother me too much but some in my party were annoyed. High quality steaks and great sharable sides."

  • "The food was not delivered the way we had requested that it be prepared so that was a little frustrating. Always have loved going to other Capital Grilles but not this one. They did not even have a deceit black tea. There are some of us that do not like Earl Grey black tea so there is not other alternative. The offered oolong and jasmine which is not a substitute for a good black tea. You would think that a steak house could offer a selection of teas. Teabags do not cost a lot. This was not a good experience."

  • "The New York Strip was wonderful and the Kona-rubbed Delmonico was nearly perfect. Even though the table before us took a long time finishing up, the hostess took great care of us: she provided a free round of cocktails and an appetizer of calamari once we finally got seated. Even though we weren't seated until about 45 min after our 8 pm reservation, the extra accommodations made the situation much less of an inconvenience. Thank you."

  • "My friend and I were the only 2-top in the place. Upon arrival at 7:15 the bar was packed. The dining room was filled with larger tables of DC's elite movers and shakers. Men-- definitely wear at least a jacket (the ties seemed to have come off for most, but still all business). If you're looking for a romantic dinner this isn't it, but it's amazing people watching. Just don't expect to be able to whisper sweet nothings across the table, as you can barely hear each other speak over all of the back-slapping and deal making. The food was top-notch, except the Lobster Mac and Cheese came out cold. The manager came by to check on us and replaced it right away. Our server was very friendly and read us well. It was a great night."

  • "My wife and I dined here on a Sunday (03/24/2014). We (obviously) reserved our seats through OpenTable. The establishment opens promptly at 5pm on Sunday evenings so do not arrive too early or stand and wait (it's worth the wait, though). I added a note on my reservation that my wife and I were attending and event and needed swift, accommodating, and solid service--Daniel Shanko was our server--great guy! Capital Grille understood our situation and they were extremely attentive. The service was great, wine was great, food was decadent, and this evening proved to be one we would like to revisit. We will definitely be back. My wife ordered the Pan-Seared Chilean Sea Bass, and I the Bone-In Kona Crusted Dry Aged Sirloin and we loved it!"

  • "First the good. Highly professional and pleasant service from Tony. Expertly handled decanting an older bottle of wine we brought. Remembering a birthday was a nice touch that helped make the dinner. Food was hit-or-miss. Steak tartare a model of the dish in flavor but the deviled egg had little truffle flavor. The birthday dessert was delicious and the finesse of the cheesecake a surprise. Calamari was tough and overcooked. Dry-aged porterhouses had little of gamy/nutty flavor we remembered from other visits here and were cooked blue rare at bone not medium rare. Au gratin potatoes dried out from reheating. Other sides good. Once upon a time one could just take perfect steaks and food as a given here."

  • "Usually a guaranteed good meal, Capital Grille failed to deliver this time. The lamb chops ordered medium rare were served well done the first time. The second time, the cuts were awful, not trimmed properly and unevenly cooked. One bite was too done and another was ice cold. I don't understand how a steakhouse can mess up meat so badly...On the upside, our server was FABULOUS!"

  • "The bartender, Colin, was warm, welcoming, and made great drinks. The Server seemed annoyed that we dined at 2:30 pm and asked my husband if I would be long because the Kitchen closed? I went to the Ladies Room! Do not seat us if they can not cook for us. This should be seamless and we do not need to know the Chef wants to leave. We ordered 3 course from the dinner menu, excluding dessert, and the restaurant should train Servers better. My rare Ribeye, sorry the Server corrected me, Delmonico, was excellent. My husband's medium filet, however, was over charred, & a bit dry. This is one of my favorite places but never thought when they were less busy there would be issues."

  • "Excellent food, classy high-end atmosphere, and good service. Very old-school dark-wood ambiance, quite a contrast from the currently hip small-plates, minimalist, exposed-brick trend. Although very expensive ($180 for the two of us, with dessert), the meal was delicious, with generous portions. I had the spinach salad (with yummy bacon dressing), enormous Porcini Delmonico, and coconut cream pie. The pie was a bit too whip-creamy but was still very satisfying. GF had seared sea bass, and cheesecake, both delicious, and we shared the lobster mac-and-cheese and truffle fries. Mac-and-cheese was just OK for us, but truffle fries were excellent. Highly recommended for special occasion, or impressing your family or clients."

  • "I went here as a recommended location for a birthday dinner/date night. We dinned on KC Strip and Parmesan crusted filet of sole. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his steak where he's still talking about it two days later! Our waiter stated that the steak was aged for 14 days, so maybe that had something to do with it. I however had the fish, which I really didn't enjoy too much, but it was paired with potatoes and crab meat with a white sauce which were really good. I honestly expected the fish to be really flaky and meaty, but this was more flatten and compressed and just wasn't that great. Otherwise, everything else was perfect. The ambiance of the restaurant was really nice. Our waitress was great, really nice. We'll be back!"

It was an early Saturday evening, and we were expecting "Classy", but what we got was a crowd in the main dining room wearing ball caps throughout the meal and swigging beer from the bottle. This wasn't just at one table. At an elegant restaurant I would like a little elegance...this had all the charm of eating at a truck stop."

  • "I have eaten at Capital Grille many times. I can always count on the quality of the food and the service. It is nice to have a treat and have a civilized white tablecloth lunch on occasion. The Seared Salmon with Avocado Tomato and Mango Salad is a wonderful lunch that is satisfying but not too heavy. I highly recommend it."
