As we finished our starters, the staff changed the adjacent five-top to an eight-top and sat a table of men (plus one woman) there. The backs of two of the men were less than 4 inches from our table, yet no one from the restaurant checked to see if this was a problem for us. I'm struggling to find any other way to see it than pure sexism. (1) There were many open booths and tables in the immediate area. (2) There were many booths and bigger tables occupied by two gentlemen. Food is positively delicious and unique, and the service is alwas excellent. While I rated the noise level as energetic, there are "two" sides to the restaurant; one being the bar side (energetic) and the other the quieter, romantic, side with a view to the street. The staff are all very supportive of one another, and go out of their way to make you feel special. While on the pricey side, the food, service, ambience, are all worth it. We were not disappointed. Overall, the experience was wonderful. The service was exceptional, the food was excellent, and the ambiance was stunning for a ground floor restaurant (the glass and steel walls and ceiling which angle to a sharp point at the highest two-three story point are evocative of the Chrysler Building's terriced crown).
All in all a wonderful time. The staff was friendly and most accommodating, and our waitress did a grand job of providing us with excellent service and keeping with all of our demands. The presentation of the food was well done and the taste, outstanding. Our waitress had recommended the filet mignon which was heavenly good. We always have a great dining experience because the service and food are always consistently well done. Our waitress was so sweet. She overheard us celebrating our wedding anniversary and she brought us over two glasses of champagne. She was sweet to our 3yr old daughter and brought her a piece of dessert. We had the perfect evening out celebrating our anniversary. The steaks are always cooked exactly how you request them. The sides are large for sharing and so yummy. Their wine list is very impressive, although we have seen their prices go up significantly. We always felt we got a great wine for good value when dining there. That feeling has changed. The service is great and the steak above average but no where near the top of the steak house food chain in NY. That being said it has become my go to steak house in the Grand Central area. Great service but the host/hostesses are general obnoxious and not welcoming (I have been here five times in the last few months so it is not my imagination).
