Diner Reviews
  • "The CG always gets it right. Excellent food, attentive service, and always welcoming. "

  • "We made last minute reservations for a group of 9! The food was amazing... specifically the seafood appetizer for all nine of us! The food was great and the service was outstanding! If you go, ask for Tony!!!! He's the best!"

  • "Celebrated my boyfriend's birthday here back in February, and what a treat! I just happened to comment in the reservation that it was a birthday dinner and we were surprised to find birthday confetti when we got to our table. It was a very cute touch! Service was very attentive, but at some point during the meal we did loose the waitress for a bit. I did ask to have my steak cooked more, which happens, and after that the manager and waitress came by to check on us multiple times. The food was amazing, as was the wine list. Highly recommend the lobster mac and cheese. Another wonderful surprise was the happy birthday dessert plate and proseco that was brought to the table, on the house. They truly made our special dinner memorable."

  • "We were there on a Sunday evening, hoping to reduce the sting of the MSU basketball loss to UConn. Mission accomplished! It was not cheap, but the service, food and environment all justified the expense. The steaks, lobster and sides were all to die for. Highly recommended."

  • "i wish there were more vegetarian options. was a little loud at lunch, but servers were very attentive."

  • "Except the tuna. I know, I know, my mistake for ordering tuna in the first place. It wasn't good. But, it was HUGE! The service was fantastic and the sides were downright delicious!"

  • "The host staff was friendly and attentive. The restaurant has just the right: lighting, noise, menu items and space between the tables. One more high top table at the bar would be good. The food was very good and my steak done perfectly. Went for restaurant week, will go back again."

  • "Stick with the basics for your entree....steak. We had a party of 9 celebrating a birthday and the 2 people who ordered salmon reported that it was over cooked. Very disappointing. Everyone else devoured the steaks which are high quality and were cooked to the correct temperatures as ordered. The Calamari and the Prosciuto/mozzarella apps stand out. Also highly recommend splurging on the Lobster mac n cheese as a side dish. Very attentive service."

  • "This is one of the best restaurants. Everything is top notch--food, service, atmosphere. It costs a bit more than most others, but it's better than most others and great quality costs. You get the best here!"

  • "I like it very much for business lunches. The booths are very conducive to conducting business. Also, they do not try to hurry you out."

  • "Very enjoyable. Food was very good. Service was good. Our waiter was good but the servers didn't bring the sides with our steaks so we had to wait, that was a little disprutive of the flow of the dinner. But enjoyed the food anyway. Loved the decor of the restaurant."

  • "Went with 10:45 res on Thurs night. Place was mostly deserted. Attentive service went awry when entrees came out 3 minutes after appetizers, kitchen apparently mixed up another table's rush with us. Free desserts as apology - good job on that. Porterhouse was very good though not hot off the grill. Lobster Mac n cheese was sublime - delicious and hot. Caesar salad boring. Sautéed spinach boring. Crab cakes good but not hot. Steak, salad, spinach under seasoned. Cool decor."

  • "This is one of my favorite places to visit during restaurant week for one reason-the Kona crusted sirloin!! The service there was just "okay", our server was very nice but I found the host staff to be a bit rude and dismissive. The ambiance is great and we had a very nice table close to the window facing 42nd Street."

  • "Had a great business lunch...always do. The waiter was distracted and had to be asked several times for items mentioned during ordering process."

  • "Brought some friends from London who wanted beef! Food was excellent, service outstanding (attentive but not pushy) and the noise level never interfering with our conversation. My friends have added this restaurant to their favorite's list!"

  • "We enjoyed our lunch very much. Food was excellent. I had citrus glazed salmon. Very nice. We asked via OpenTable for a quiet table so that we could conduct business and we were accommodated beautifully."

  • "The 20 minute wait was an inconvenience for me and my party given I had made a reservation through OpenTable and arrived on time. However, the food and service at the table were outstanding."

  • "As far as steakhouse chains go these guys are just about average. Slightly annoyed w/ the service, waiter was not well trained, serving the man first & bringing out the main course as we were still finishing salads.Did not perform wine service properly & this place has a notable list. Food was on par - lobster/crab cakes were tasty , salads were bland. Strip steak cooked well but did not have the feel of a prime cut- fillet was seasoned well & cream spinach was over seasoned -garlic heavy. This place packs well night after night - more of a lunch spot feel though."

  • "I have been going to Capitol Grill for a long time. This year the lunch menu has been reduced both in size and quality. The selections were less. The steak was mediocre as the quality of the meat was poor. No french fries came with the steak - probably because many people are dieting. But they were not offered. The service was nice as always. Its a pity that the offer has been reduced to such an extent. Dalia Carmel"

  • "Went not once, but twice for restaurant week. Both times orders were wrong, food was under cooked, and service was haphazard. What happened? This place used to be great."

  • "Food was great. Not to miss the splendid list of wines. Service could have been better. From the point of arrival to being seated and a server coming to take your order, one would seem they are ignoring you. Our server made up for it but I think the host team needs to do a better job."

  • "Great food, extensive wine list, and very romantic. It's pretty dark and feels like an old school steakhouse. Great location, right outside of grand central. The portions were surprisingly large!"

  • "I'm not a steak lover but the kona crusted aged sirloin steak is just simply the best! My husband ordered it and I usually take a bite or two of his steak but this one I can't stop at two. I ate about a quarter of his steak. It's done perfectly and best flavor anywhere. Highly recommended."

  • "This was my first time dining at The Capital Grille. I'd heard good reviews from family who go for special occasions. I was very happy with the overall experience. The food was great and so was the service. I'd definitely recommend this restaurant to my family and friends. I will also be going back!"

  • "Arrivedat the Capital Grille for a bday dinner with the misses. Upon arrival our coats were checked and we were escorted to our table (no wait with our reservation). The service was outstanding and they food is delicious. I recommend the kona rub steak and the lobster mac and cheese (to die for). After dinner we were treated to dessert on the house to celebrate the misses bday. This wasn't my first time here and certainly won't be my last. The food and service keeps me coming back for more..."

  • "Worst dining experience I've ever had. Our waiter was never anywhere to be found, my salmon came out way overdone while my boyfriend's steak came really rare when he asked for it medium. We finally managed to flag down a different waiter and have him take the steak back. While I waited for him to get his meal back the waiter came over and asked me what was wrong with my food. I replied that mine was fine I was just waiting for the steak to come back to eat. He then offered to take my entree and our sides to keep them warm. Meanwhile our waiter finally resurfaced and brought us our dessert to the table before our entrees had ever returned. When we did get our food back they didn't return our sides and no one was around to check in with us"

  • "Prototypical good NYC steakhouse. You're paying for it, but you get very good food, exceptional service, a wine list that leaves little to be desired. Definitely would return for a special occasion or with a group of buddies for a solid meal"

  • "Very nice night. Justin was very attentive and pleasant. The wait was a bit much, bar was packed, and had to wait standing behind people enjoying their dinner."

  • "Capital Grille is a great place to grab lunch with colleagues or clients. Great food and drink options. The staff is warm and welcoming. They checked in on us twice and made sure we had our desserts to go."

  • "My friend and I went for restaurant week. The restaurant was very crowed but they did seat us on time. The table was very small for two people. We did have to ask for the restaurant week menu. The lunch we ordered was very good and they did not rush us."
    Dined on 3/6/2014
  • "Nice ambience ruined by the subpar quality of food. Restaurant atmosphere typical NY steakhouse, nicely decorated, old world type feel to it. Buzzing for a Friday lunch. The service was also pleasant, although we did have to ask for the restaurant week menu and wine list. The food was diner quality, and downright disappointing. The clam chowder tasted as if from a can, sirloin steak was the fattiest, toughest cut of meat I've ever eaten. It was nicely cooked thus would have been tasty if the cut of meat hadn't been so terrible. I could not chew through it and barely swallow some pieces. The chocolate cake for dessert was tasty but nothing special. Would not recommend getting any "economical" cut of steak there as it will likely be inedible."
