Diner Reviews
  • "Excellent ambiance. Relaxing island atmosphere at a "locals " spot. Not touristy and very friendly. Crud da gras ,... The food is delicious ! "

  • "Outstanding food, creatively prepared. Novel and unique drinks, an outstanding view of west pacific. Friendly and attentive staff. We're going back tomorrow!"

  • "Beautiful setting and fantastic view. The meal was delicious. Overall wonderful experience topped off by a pod of whales swimming by."

  • "The service was overly obsequious, bordering on pretentious. The food was good, but at $42 for a risotto and $34 for spaghettini bolognese, prices are not good value for money. I wish the servers would hide discretely and suddenly appear out of nowhere when you need them. Classy restaurants seem to achieve this feat. I do not need to know the name of my server nor do I need to have them come and ask me "how is it?". If it is not good, I will let them know! I appear cranky, but I mean this review as constructive criticism. Lower the prices and fix the service and Capische could be a great restaurant."

  • "We loved Capische? We ate on the lanai for sunset. The view was spectacular and the food was just as spectacular. Especially the chocolate dessert! Highly, highly recommended. Right near the Wailea hotels."

  • "the views from the hillside of Maui were awesome. Great service."

  • "On my 25th trip to Maui I had the pleasure of dining here once again with a friend who works at a neighboring Wailea restaurant. We were treated royally, with both excellent food and service. Both of us are vegetarians and the waiter made certain that we were provided options to please us (not necessarily on the menu, but created for us.) I was very pleased with all interactions with all staff there. Special thanks to young Noah who is a fine addition to the staff and who at a very young age shows tremendous professionalism and who displays the island's well-known "aloha spirit." He also has fine taste in music, I must say! Looking forward to eating again at Capische! and to staying at the Hotel Wailea next year."

  • "This is our third time at Capische and it was awesome. The view is perfect, the food excellent and the waitstaff was wonderful. Highly recommend this as one of the best restaurants in Wailea!"

  • "It took quite a while before anyone came by and took our drink order, and even longer to get it, and then to take the dinner order.. the rest of the dinner was similar. We decided to go with a Prix Fix, but the one item on the menu that we wanted most, was sold out, and it was only 7pm, so had to go with the higher priced substitution, a $25 supplement. I couldnt understand that, during high season, with one of the more popular items on the menu, they couldn't plan enough in advance to have enough to last thru 7pm. At the end, the waiter gave some excuse and apologized for the slow service. But usually, in a case like that, they offer something complementary, like desert. Nothing, just an apology. I'm sorry too."

  • "We dined at Capische? last week. It was the best food we had on Maui. The service is top notch. The sunset view from the lanai was gorgeous. And the food was fantastic. One of our party said the spaghetti bolognese was the best spaghetti he had ever had and the lamb shank was so tender and juicy. The fish special was excellent. We also enjoyed the ice cream sandwiches and raspberry filled malasadas for dessert. Will definitely go back the next time we are in Maui!"

  • "From start (grilled Caesar salad), to middle (truffle risotto), to finish (veal chop piccata). Lovely wine list. Beautiful sunset view, and intimate garden dining. Love this spot. Don't miss this gem. A Maui Must!!!"

  • "Do not pass on dining here. If you are lucky to sit in the garden area you will be amazed"

  • "The "lanai" seating was perfect, and I imagine the sunset would be quite stunning, though we weren't able to enjoy it. We enjoyed piano music (jazz), which was perfect, though a subsequent night's offering was a much more noisy band. The food was very good, and generally quite creative. Not all of the flavors in some dishes seemed to be quite mixed, or settled, but eventually they all came together. The fennel was a bit puzzling; I happen to love fennel, but this was the first time I've had any that didn't quite seem to fit. It is grown on site: perhaps someone felt obliged to use it. The waitstaff brought the wrong dish for my main, and the flavor of this one dish was quite disappointing, though others were very good."

  • "Having traveled many, many times on both Kauai and Maui, and dining at the best both of these islands have to offer, we have concluded that CAPISCHE stands out among all of our experiences. The consistency over time, the attention to detail in the preparation of the food and most importantly, the quality of the food make it the best for us. We usually plan to dine in this wonderful restaurant several times during our visit."

  • "We booked a reservation a month in advance and told them it was our wedding dinner. They gave us the best spot in the garden. It was beautiful and very romantic. Service was outstanding. We both had the Grilled Caesar Salad and the Hanging Tenderloin. The food was fantastic, we couldn't have asked for more. We will be going back on are return visit."

  • "Our first visit to Capische will definitely NOT be our last - it was by far the best dining experience while visiting Maui. The hostess greeted us and made us feel very welcome. We were seated at an amazing table with a panoramic view of the ocean and sunset. Our server was extremely attentive, very friendly, and made us feel right at home. The food was incredible! The best dining experience by far."

  • "We were seated in the garden in a little nook with just the one table. It was very quiet and romantic. The service was excellent between the waiter and the server. I had the ciopino and my husband had the clam & chorizo dish. Both were good, but very rich. The desserts - lilikoi tart and chocolate caramel sea salt something - we're excellent. Definitely recommend."

  • "We've visiting Maui for over 30 years and we are always looking for new and interesting dining spots. This one is a true gem. We were not falciparum with the Hotel as we generally stay in Kapalua but between the great restaurant and ingesting hotel, we might need to stay in Wailea again. The resturant is open air with a wonderful view ! The food selection was varied and offered many selections. I would recommend this delightful dining experience to anyone . We are certainly looking forward to a return visit."

  • "This is a beautiful spot in a beautiful hotel on a beautiful island. Even in Wailea, where 4 and 5-star restaurants abound, Capische stands tall. The view from the balcony at sunset is breathtaking and the food doesn't hide behind the view. The menu is delicious - prepared with care and served with warmth and attention. Try Happy Hour at the bar for a drink and a taste at reasonable prices. Then stay for dinner. Yes, it is expensive, but an outstanding value compared to other restaurants nearby. Not to be missed."

  • "Great food service and about all the sunset view perched on a hill over the pacific island sunset A must do experience. organic unique menu Lovely staff thank you"

  • "We were seated in a corner with no view of the water (despite there being multiple open tables with a view, that were never filled). The appetizers were good, but nothing extraordinary. Similar feeling with the second course and the mains, despite asking for minimal oil and butter, the vegetables were soaked in grease, and the meals were heavy. A big disappointment. Portions were small (which we like). The Ahi tuna was beautifully cooked, steak was ordered medium rare, and was delivered medium well. Any other day, it would have been sent back, but my husband didn't want to wait for a new meal. We did not have dessert, The night was saved by excellent wait staff, which was much appreciated."

  • "On a chilly night, there is no wind protection from the elements. At first, they tried to position our party on the end, two feet from a stairway. The waiter was non-existent, while busboys, etc. were plentiful. The portions are extremely small for a $40.-- to $50.00 entree. Nothing good worth mentioning, and I find good everywhere."

  • "Easily one of the best resturants on the island. We were seated in the garden area and it was very private and secluded. Food was top notch, wine list great, and service good. A pricey place to eat but worth it. Try the pumpkin gnocchi with lavender cream sauce."

  • "A friend reccomended Capisch - at Hotel Wailea. We went the first night of our week long visit to Maui. Great decision, nice open air bar, great drinks. Had dinner in private garden area. Lovey all the way around. Good food."

  • "We have been to Capishe several times. We had another excellent dinner (braised lamb shank for me, carbonara and gnocchi for my wife. The main dishes were great - but my side dish (lemon risotto) had way too much lemon in it - normally this combo is great, but in this case the lemon was overdone. This did not ruin our great meal in any way - just was a bit off. We did have an excellent chocolate dessert and our service was tremendous. We will go back."

  • "Very nice restaurant all outside.Very good servers .The quality of the chef is 5 star, excellent..The only cons is the quantity is like for Weight Watchers .They offer 2 sizes full and 1/2 (quantity and price) .Is needed the 3rd over (and will be normal). The vine list is excellent (and the sizes of the bottles is normal..lol) In short the quality of the food is excellent !"

  • "We've never been up to this location before and tried Capische twice during our recent trip to Maui. One night for dinner and the second night at the bar for entertainment (Friday/Saturday nights). Great piano entertainment, by the way.... Outside dining with sunset view was great...tables didnt feel crowded outside at all...and really nice small menu. Tried their Risotto which is a signature dish and it was just excellent. Probably one of the best I've ever had."

  • "The food was great at Capische! It was our favorite meal of the trip. On the downside, a party of about 30 persons was seated before we came. As groups can be, they were very loud. The hostess seated us right next to this group, even though there were open tables in other areas. So the noise level was uncomfortable. But we would go back again and give it another try because the food was terrific."

  • "What a treasure! We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner-we had a private garden area . The service and food were wonderful. They tell s we should go there fir the sunset. Next time!"

  • "A perfect place for a romantic dinner or special occasion. We were given a beautiful secluded table in the garden, with a view. The service was prompt, courteous and friendly, but the food was the star here. The lobster salad and caprise salad were both fresh and delicious. The truffle risotto was fragrant and rich tasting. The steak was melt-in-your mouth with a delicious blue cheese crust and demi glace, and wonderful homemade gnocci. Our absolute favorite was the Cioppino. There was an abundance of seafood, and the broth was so flavorful, we couldn't help but take a spoon and slurp up every drop. Although this meal was quite pricey, it was a real treat and well worth it."

  • "We were seated outside at night. Lighting was minimal. We were given a very small flashlight to read the menu. The salad & entrée portions were extremely small and very pricey. Service was slow. Self-parking was terrible because the spaces are way too small which makes it difficult to get out of the car after parking. We were celebrating a birthday so this was NOT the place to go. We won't go back."

  • "This restaurant was, by far, the best meal we had on Maui. It is a short distance from the Four Seasons and the Grand Wailea and well worth going off property. Highly recommend. We took our children (under 10) and their kids menu was terrific. The view is incredible so book a table to enjoy sunset."

  • "This was our fourth trip to Capische. Every time we visit Maui, the trip isn't complete without dinner. This trip, we chose different menu items and enjoyed every tasty bite. Grab your best friend or significant other and treat your self to a fresh, terrific meal."

  • "This was a return visit to Capiche? after a couple of years. The food and service were outstanding, and lived up to our memories. The weather was cool and breezy, and our table was outside (we weren't given an option when booking, and the main floor inside tables were full, although I don't know if the 2nd floor was also booked to capacity). To be fair, they called us that afternoon to say bring a sweater with us, but the wind was COLD and definitely impacted our dining experience. The food, while delicious, chilled quickly, as did the cappucino served after dinner. We ate and were gone in an hour, at a location we would otherwise have stayed at for 2. If it's a breezy day, be sure to request an inside table when reserving!"
