Diner Reviews
  • "Romantic outdoor seating with a beautiful view of the ocean. Servers were professional and knowledgeable. Food was authentic Italian that was refined, delicate and unique. My husband had ahi with vanilla bean flavor-unique and delicious. Vegetables grown in their own garden were very good. We hadn't been to Capische in a few years, but will definitely start going back. Highly recommend Capische for a scenic and romantic fine dining experience."

  • "We arrived early for our reservation so we could see the sunset...which turned out to be amazing...even the staff were taking pictures! Chad, the bartender was great...actually knew what a craft cocktail was and was happy to get creative and make anything we wanted. Our waiter was nice, friendly and patient. The sommelier made a great recommendation. The deck had a beautiful view and was a beautiful setting for dinner with my husband. All dishes were fresh and delicious! Only downfall...we were too full for dessert. Lastly, the hotel valet kindly drove us home since we finished late and our hotel shuttle wasn't available anymore."

  • "My husband and I ate here on our wedding night five years ago. We just dined there again and it was better than either of us remembered. Primis, pastas, fish and steak are all very good. Service was also the best we had on Maui. We actually dined here twice this trip - once seated with an excellent view of the sunset and another night just at the bar - great cocktails. Try the tasting menu with wine pairings. I'm glad we gave Capische? another try."

  • "Great food, service and atmosphere. Would definitely return."

  • "Excellent service from a very knowledgable waiter. The view is just amazing. I would recommend going for an earlish dinner to see the sunset...stunning! The 3-course pre-fix tasting menu is a great deal with well portioned plates. Food recommendations: For an appetizer, the quail is really good but a lot. Don't get the beef carpaccio (you've had better elsewhere). The best primi is the bolognase and the porcini crusted ahi as an entre."

  • "Our main concern with the food was, there was a fly in the Caesar salad. It was in between the leaves, which seemed to indicate the lettuce wasn't well washed."

  • "We were visiting Hawaii with friends and decided to come here for an adult dinner. We decided to all have the $75 3 course meal which I think was definitely the way to go. It didn't include dessert. The mushroom risotto was so yummy! I even tried my husbands quail which was outstanding. For dessert you should definitely get the creme brûlée. We tried the donuts first but they were not good at all. Our friends had the creme brûlée and the waiter was more than willing to switch to a different dessert. The view was beautiful! Will definitely go back when we return to Hawaii. Bathrooms good be updated."

  • "Food was more about presentation than substance. Found the waitress less than friendly and at times inpatient. Really put a damper on the experience."

  • "A quiet place up the street from the top hotels in Wailea (Four Seasons, Grand Wailea, Fairmont, etc.) ... Capische offers a stunning view and small intimate dining area. The food was amazing, the service was great, and the ambience was perfect for a killer sunset and a get away from the resort dining experiences. Highly recommend it."

  • "Setting was fantastic. Had the 3 course tasting. Food was mixed. Carpaccio lacked some flavor and there was too much acid in the sauce. It was also a bit tough. Pasta was pretty good but you don't go to Hawaii for pasta. Ahi Tuna was very good. Wine list was limited and overpriced relative to other spots on the island. Service was the real killer. Started off strong but noticed they kept switching waiters on us. As the night progressed and the restaurant emptied out it turned disastrous. We sat about 20 min between courses and at one point I didn't see one person even working. I finally had get up and find someone just to make sure they had forgotten about us before they closed. Skipped desert as we were exhausted at that point."

  • "The experience was an exceptional time. Good drinks, great food, and an amazing sunset on the Lanai. We chose the prix fixe menu which allowed us to share several of the plates, every appetizer and one entree was delicious with the only exception being that my wife ordered the special (catch of the day) and it was over cooked and dry. Would definitely go back on my next vacation to Maui!"

  • "Capische is a must on our list for our annual trip to Maui. It is so elegant and romantic with service that makes each patron feel special. This visit when we requested a seat with the outside view we were readily accommodated. All the staff displays a can do attitude no matter the request. The salads were full of fresh crisp greens with just the right amount of dressing to flavor but not overpower. The special fish of the evening was cooked to perfection again with subtle flavors that enhanced the dish. The gnocchi was el dente and very flavorful with the creamy butter sauce adding a hint of sweet and savory."

  • "We were out for our anniversary. It was a bit windy so they considerately seated us inside in the bar area. Dinner was excellent after some discussion about our preference to have our fish cooked so that it is still moist on the inside. The chef nicely chose another fish and recooked the meal to be as we preferred. We appreciated that very much!"

  • "Get prepared for an amazing view.. The Bar at sunset is out of this world. Great Mixologist - Knowledgeable and Friendly. The Dinner was very expensive for the quality we received... We were very disappointed. The Fresh Veggie bruscheta was too sweet (tasted like strawberry jam) both our main fish dishes were overcooked ONO and Ahi (porcini encrusted). The veggies were so salted I could't eat them. The most expensive meal we had in Maui and the worst.. we don't mind paying $$$ for good food- Too bad because it came highly recommend. "

  • "For the price you pay here service should be commensurate. Way too much time between meals. We ordered the prix fix first and second were good third just Ok not worth it."

  • "The view from the Lanai was amazing. Food and service were good. Great wine list however way over priced compared with other local restaurants in Wailea. "

  • "Husband and I booked table a month in advance to celebrate our anniversary and made note of the occasion in our reservation. We we greeted by hostess who a knowledged our celebration, as did servers during the evening. Arrived a half hour early to view sunset from the bar, where we had happy hour cocktails ($10 ea) and cheese plate. At 7pm we were seated at nice table on balcony with an outstanding view of water and west Maui. Dinner items were very good and we had a bottle of wine recommended by our waiter that was excellent. I was disappointed that they didn't offer a free dessert or anything else for our special occasion, given that our tab was $340. Have had better, less expensive meals on Maui (Lahaina Grill) paying for the view. "

  • "So my husband and I read that this is the most romantic restaurant on the island. It's a nice location, but the view isn't anything special. The food was AMAZING!! We did the 3course meal. The beef carpaccio, caprese salad, mushroom risotto, ahi tuna, and the catch of the day were all delicious. It was all prepared just right. My biggest downfall was the service. Our waiter was very kind. He told us he would bring some bread... We had to wait 30mins and ask for bread. I asked for like three time for pelligrino, I still have yet to recurve it. Dinner took look long. We were there for nearly three hours. They weren't busy so I didn't understand what took so long. I'd come back for the food, just not the service. Maybe take out?"

  • "Over priced $55 for cioppino, half an overcooked lobster a few clams and few shrimp. Quail apertizer was delicious. Pumpkin gnocchi was too sweet You are paying dearly for the view. $200 for two "

  • "We stayed in Hawaii for 8 nights and this was our best dinner. The food was absolutely amazing and we didn't leave a morsel at any course. The Veal chop was out of this world. The wine list was very extensive (but expensive). We opted for the pre-fix option ($75) for app, pasta and entree. The only negative I could say was the app and pasta portions were very small making me wonder if that was because of the pre-fix? Either way I would definently go back again and again. "

  • "I hesitated going here after reading some negative reviews but went anyway. The place is arrogant, the servings small, the service sucks, and the food is mediocre. And, even without liquor or dessert, I am 120.00 poorer for 2 entrees. I should have gone with my "gut" feeling."

  • "If you think you've eaten everywhere on the island of Maui, you have not until you eat at Capische. The location is stunning, as well as the The Hotel Wailea, which is adjacent. I had not been to this part of Wailea before and I was captured by the view, the waterfalls inside the hotel and the romantic ambiance. The service was stellar and the food matched. I would definitely go here again and by pass some of my "old" favorites. "

  • "Dinning on our last evening in Maui could not have been better. Appetizers of trifle risotto and heirloom tomatoes were perfect in taste and proportions. Fish catch of day perfectly seasoned. The night's special of veal chop was perfectly cooked (as good as any I have experienced in SFO, Chicago etc. Service was attentive but not rushed. We are certain to return..."

  • "We love Maui and return about every 5 years. We have a few favorite fine dining restaurants, but always look for a new experience. On this trip we were disappointed trying one of the so called "fine dining - sea food restaurants in a large hotel" so we went searching restaurant site reviews and found Capische. This excellent restaurant was such a great find in a plethora of upscale restaurants. Outstanding food, wonderful service and the view of the bay at sunset was breathtaking. And while it was what would probably be called expensive, it was still below the costs for so many others that are charging to hear the waves crash. Plus the food and service matched the ambiance of the others that we have also dined at. "

  • "While not close to the beach, the views of the ocean and sunsets are amazing. The menu changes and they offer a three-course dinner for a set price, which is a great value. Our server, Kyle, was very attentive, as was the back waiter and the multiple food runners. We are local residents and consider Capische one of our go-to restaurants on the island. "

  • "The service was overly obsequious, bordering on pretentious. The food was good, but at $42 for a risotto and $34 for spaghettini bolognese, prices are not good value for money. I wish the servers would hide discretely and suddenly appear out of nowhere when you need them. Classy restaurants seem to achieve this feat. I do not need to know the name of my server nor do I need to have them come and ask me "how is it?". If it is not good, I will let them know! I appear cranky, but I mean this review as constructive criticism. Lower the prices and fix the service and Capische could be a great restaurant."

  • "We loved Capische? We ate on the lanai for sunset. The view was spectacular and the food was just as spectacular. Especially the chocolate dessert! Highly, highly recommended. Right near the Wailea hotels."

  • "On my 25th trip to Maui I had the pleasure of dining here once again with a friend who works at a neighboring Wailea restaurant. We were treated royally, with both excellent food and service. Both of us are vegetarians and the waiter made certain that we were provided options to please us (not necessarily on the menu, but created for us.) I was very pleased with all interactions with all staff there. Special thanks to young Noah who is a fine addition to the staff and who at a very young age shows tremendous professionalism and who displays the island's well-known "aloha spirit." He also has fine taste in music, I must say! Looking forward to eating again at Capische! and to staying at the Hotel Wailea next year."

  • "It took quite a while before anyone came by and took our drink order, and even longer to get it, and then to take the dinner order.. the rest of the dinner was similar. We decided to go with a Prix Fix, but the one item on the menu that we wanted most, was sold out, and it was only 7pm, so had to go with the higher priced substitution, a $25 supplement. I couldnt understand that, during high season, with one of the more popular items on the menu, they couldn't plan enough in advance to have enough to last thru 7pm. At the end, the waiter gave some excuse and apologized for the slow service. But usually, in a case like that, they offer something complementary, like desert. Nothing, just an apology. I'm sorry too."

  • "We dined at Capische? last week. It was the best food we had on Maui. The service is top notch. The sunset view from the lanai was gorgeous. And the food was fantastic. One of our party said the spaghetti bolognese was the best spaghetti he had ever had and the lamb shank was so tender and juicy. The fish special was excellent. We also enjoyed the ice cream sandwiches and raspberry filled malasadas for dessert. Will definitely go back the next time we are in Maui!"
