I love this restaurant. My husband and I walked passed Capellini's for over two years until we finally decided to see what all of the excitement was about. I'm mad that we didn't try the restaurant sooner. Their homemade bread and pastas are phenomenal. I recently took a party of six to the restaurant for dinner on a Saturday evening. We sat at the table enjoying the food, drinks, and ambience for almost two hours, and no one rushed us. I think I have a new favorite restaurant.

This is my third dinner here in about 2 months. I try something different every time. From the bread to the homemade minestrone. The butternut squash ravioli, lasagne, and the gnocchi are all great choices.

Our table was ready on time with an outstanding waiter that took care of all our needs. There were about 8 people next to us and as we left the restaurant my friend commented at how nice the 8 people were and that they were not noisy and did not disturb us at all. The food was outstanding and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We were not rushed as we had a lot to talk about and nobody pushed us to leave which is always nice. Great place to dine and I highly recommend Capellini.

The food at Capellini is reliably very good and generally we have a wonderful experience there. On this evening our waiter was diffident, almost disinterested, which definitely detracted from our enjoyment. Usually the staff is friendly and engaged in creating a very good experience.

My wife and I used to go to Cappellini's a lot when we were courting. 22 years later, with all the kids out of the house, we return to this grand old restaurant in downtown San Mateo and had a great meal in a place where time stands still and you can fall in love all over again. The food is good, there's lots of people at the bar who seem to know each other, and the service is attentive. If you're looking for a neighborhood restaurant to mark your life with, you can't go wrong with Cappellini's.
