A word from Cape Cod
The Cape Cod, a much honored seafood restaurant, boasts of fresh seafood from the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, from the lakes and freshwater streams. It has been consistently named as one of America's finest dining spots since opening in 1933. Zagat's consumer survey also picked the Cape Cod as a top hotel restaurant. It was recently inducted by Nation's Restaurant News into the Fine Dining Hall of Fame.

Located on the arcade level, the cozy restaurant, established in 1933 is decked with nautical paraphernalia. Nautical themed, wooden beams, hanging copper pots and stuffed sailfish adorn the room, walls and ceiling of this immensely popular restaurant. Reservations are very strongly recommended.

Cape Cod Room has been a favorite of ours since we were dating. We would go for special occasions and my wife would always get the Alaskan King Crab legs, her favorite. She considered Cape Cod Room to have the best in the city. We mentioned that it was our 15th Anniversary on our Open Table reservation. It was never mentioned. After being seated our drink order was taken promptly but during the entire meal our daughter was never once asked if she needed a refill of her soft drink and only after asking 2 bussing staff did she finally get one. We were disappointed they did not have king crab on the menu (also mentioned on our Open Table reservation). When asked if it just wasn't on the menu the waiter responded with a brusque and simple, "No." He has been a staple here over the years and I believe he may think that he is now the star of the show instead of the service he provides or the food he is serving. Each of the three scallops with my meal had a bit of grit/sand in them so they were disappointing. The dover sole and lobster were both excellent however. Though 2 of the 3 meals were very good, the scallops were fair at best. BUT, because of the poor and inattentive service (and lack of king crab, permanent?) I doubt we will return. To make it up to my wife I decided we should "recelebrate" the following evening at Catch 35 so I could get her the King crab legs she loves. All aspects of our experience there were excellent and I'll leave a separate review for Catch 35.

This restaurant is located in the Drake Hotel - a truly historic Chicago gem not to be missed. The ambience and service are like stepping back in time to a more genteel, gracious and old world dining experience. I have had better seafood but the local lake fish was done to perfection. I would go back just for that!

    V. cute and old-fashioned. The service was attentive and helpful. The menu was extremely traditional (lobster thermidor, shrimp cocktail, oysters rockefeller), which was a hit with my aunt and uncle. While everything was well made, I probably wouldn't go again unless I was taking parents or grandparents. One note: I really did not get the fuss over the bookbinder's soup. I found it fishy and forgettable.

The Cape Cod is a wonderful venue which is stuck in time back in the 1930s-40s. It is a Chicago treasure oozing historic charm and genuine artifacts from Cape Cod. The restaurant has multiple levels, cozy booths, soft lighting and an attentive staff. It looks like a movie set from the 30s and 40s. Think black and white film noir...Joan Crawford, Bette Davis or the Thin Man series with William Powell and Myrna Loy. Beware, the food is very pricey and simply prepared. Dinner only. Bring your wallet and order a few "Old-Fashions"!

My family has been going to this restaurant for 3 generations. The food has always been exceptional. I was concerned when reading recent reviews; some were not favorable. Upon visiting the restaurant, I was pleased to find that the food is as good as always. I do, however, understand other reviewers comments regarding the service. I appreciate a leisurely meal but I do not expect to have a long wait to order - particularly when the restaurant is not very busy. I also don't expect to have to repeatedly ask to have our table cleared between courses. I am not certain if the dining room was short-staffed that evening, but the service was not on par with the food - and not what I would expect in a fine dining restaurant.

Ordered wine which came promptly. Diners who were seated after us had orders taken and were eating before our order was taken. Lobster Cobb salad was bland and uninspired. Halibut mains were okay but the side we ordered was disappointing. Why a restaurant in this price range would serve undercooked frozen French fried potatoes is beyond me. Not good value for the $200 we spent there.

I was staying in the hotel and it was convenient to enjoy a dinner in this classic restaurant. The ambience was appropriate for the maritime theme. The food was well served by attentive and experienced staff. However, I was disappointed in the meal which was fine but not spectacular. The halibut was bland despite the tempting description in the menu. I am uncertain whether I will give the Cape Cod a second chance.

A sad and disappointing experience. Sad because Dover Sole is no longer available. Not only one disappointed after hearing comments from surrounding tables. Service was disappointing- water service fair, server disappeared after a large group of around 10 were seated next to us (no inquiry about our main course until 22 minutes after it was served), crumbs not cleared after done with main course, not asked if we wanted more wine or more coffee,,,, Sand in one of the Oyster Rockefeller- offered discount but should have been comped. When 10 people were seated next to us, atmosphere changed because of one person who was the closest to us. Voice level was totally unacceptable. Overall, the Cape Cod did not offer a fine-dining experience.

The restaurant was lovely from the nautical east coast decor to the tasty seafood. It is very much themed as if you are on Cape Cod and it felt like I was dining in a boat. The restaurant is definitely geared towards older people and whole family dinners. A friend and I went to check it out and everyone around us was 50+ and we felt judged by our waiter and surrounding guests for being the youngest in the restaurant. Nevertheless, it is really quaint and the food is great so if you are looking for a quiet, unique dining experience Cape Cod is a great option.

We enjoyed our dinner at the The Cape Cod Room. It's a great traditional establishment in the Gold Coast part of Chicago. He was slow moving and times we had to get up to get him but over all we loved it. In the lobby of the hotel they had a live jazz band. Fountains and a lounge. It was so very pleasant. Food is mediocre at best, and the fish was overcooked which was a disappointment going to a seafood restaurant - you can do much better for your money in Chicago so don't waste your time. They also lied about availability on the phone and wouldn't take our reservation until later in the night. I decided to check OpenTable and they had availability every 15 minutes and the place was empty... Quite strange they would turn down our attempt to make a reservation over the phone. Will not be returning and suggest you go somewhere else.
