A word from Cape Cod
The Cape Cod, a much honored seafood restaurant, boasts of fresh seafood from the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, from the lakes and freshwater streams. It has been consistently named as one of America's finest dining spots since opening in 1933. Zagat's consumer survey also picked the Cape Cod as a top hotel restaurant. It was recently inducted by Nation's Restaurant News into the Fine Dining Hall of Fame.

Located on the arcade level, the cozy restaurant, established in 1933 is decked with nautical paraphernalia. Nautical themed, wooden beams, hanging copper pots and stuffed sailfish adorn the room, walls and ceiling of this immensely popular restaurant. Reservations are very strongly recommended.

  • "This turned out to be a fantastic meal. The Cape Cod has world class fresh seafood in a setting reminiscent of the 1920's and 1930's. I highly recommend the Halibut en papillote. It was cooked to perfection and the fresh dill really added a nice zing to a very hearty white-fish. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her shell fish sampler (which included oysters, shrimp, clams and lobster) and couldn't get enough of their mussels. The bar also can create those classic cocktails (I had an amazing Old-Fashioned as well as a Sazerac) and my wife really enjoyed her mojito. Be prepared to sit and relax and enjoy a restaurant that offers you the tastiest and most fresh seafood around."

  • "If you like seafood and quiet good service with old school charm this is the place. I am almost 70 have been coming here since I was a teenager and it has not changed. I was raised on the Dover Sole and you can not get that any where else. That is why we keep coming back. The decor is charming and romantic and famous and the food and wine are always excellent. It is a quiet haven in the hustle and bustle of Michigan Ave. For Chicago raised people this is an institution that gratefully has not changed."

  • "Traveled to Chicago to tag along with wife for her business meeting. Searched OT and found Cape Cod. I'm not a huge seafood fan, but my wife is. Setting is great, service was excellent, appetizer and my wife's scallops were excellent. Unfortunately, none of the seafood dishes appealed to me so order the tenderloin. It was not great. Very tough and difficult to cut. I had to ask for a different knife, but that was little better. It was slightly undercooked med rare instead of the med I ordered. I didn't send it back, but I couldn't eat much of it. I wish I liked seafood more. "

  • "Traditional preparations and good old-fashioned treatment. In the Drake Hotel, this restaurant serves good food in solid, traditional style. Seafood, steaks, chops were well prepared. The king crab legs and a special, the shrimp de jonge, were both were good though not outstanding. The accompanying asparagus was nicely prepared, and not mushy. Corn on the cob and roasted potatoes were standard. Our desserts, a banana napoleon and a keylime parfait, were fine, just not fantastic. It could probably use some updating, but if you are looking for traditional fare prepared well in the traditional way, with a quiet, romantic ambience, this is it. Unlike so many newer restaurants, it was nice and quiet."

Went there on a recommendation and although a bit pricier than we were led to believe, food was good, although not exceptional as it had once been from what I understand. Service was not what I would have expected for a restaurant at The Drake; kept having to ask for refills until the waiter finally figured it out.. Great ambiance though."

  • "This cozy room is just as I remembered it. Quiet, classy, "Old Chicago." We had a delicious, unhurried evening. I wish my salmon had been cooked a bit more, but I think this is more a function of me being behind the current trend of "medium" fish. I just can't seem to get used to that. I admit I ate it all anyway. If you want a special destination on north Michigan Avenue for something or someone special, The Cape Cod Room in The Drake Hotel is the place, a least for the over-fifty crowd."

Our waiter, Frederico, was the best. He was attentive, fun, bright. He has been at the restaurant 32 years, and one can see why."

  • "Food was great as it always is but the big, burly head waiter had an attitude. We dined at 6 on a Sunday - as it was early the restaurant was nearly empty - during appetizers we asked for some more flat bread and when that arrived we asked for some more butter and the waiter gave us a distinct rolling of the eyes - a good, customer service oriented waiter would have seen we were out of butter and asked if we wanted more or brought it without even asking. When the bill for 3 was over $300 - I don't need attitude and condescension from an underworked head waiter. Everyone else was gracious and professional"

  • "My partner and I really love the Drake Hotel in Chicago. And having the equally impressive Cape Cod Restaurant in the ground floor is both convenient and tempting. For this spring break we made the bad decision to stay at the Four Seasons Chicago (close to the Drake in distance, but that's about as far as the comparison goes). We still managed to walk over to the Cape Code based on our previous positive experiences with the restaurant, and as usual the food and service was outstanding. Next time we return to Chicago we'll be sure to stay at the Drake and enjoy the Cape Code once more."

  • "We ate early, so the room was quiet. Seating was an old fashioned booth with window, feeling private and open. Cocktails were good. I had the dover sole, prepared table side, a delightful ritual. It was perfect, simply prepared and fresh. The crispy potatoes were oven crisped, so they weren't oily. A .had the special, pan browned lake perch over brussel sprouts with a light, tasty sauce. She said it was just delicious, but I loathe brussel sprouts. We enjoyed a light, crisp Latour Chablis with dinner. The flourless chocolate cake was OK. The overall menu is a bit limited, but offers good options. Our server was a round, good humored gentleman with good timing. It is expensive, but the overall experience is worth it for a special dinner."

  • "Our table ordered the crab cakes, salmon, and white fish saltimbocca. All were excellent. I had the white fish, which was wrapped in proscuitto and was possibly the best preparation of white fish I've ever had. The service was impeccable. Will definitely return next time we're in the city."

  • "We took our 3 kids to Cape Cod Room on my husband's birthday because his father used to take him there on special occasions. It was great to reminisce - the kids loved the fish on the wall and checking out all the initials etched in the bar's wood. But it seems the Cape Cod Room is simply hanging on to its memories. Fish & Chips should've been on a "kids" menu because that's what it was - a kids dish. The other dishes were good. Service was good, not great, though our old time waiter did a nice job of making the kids feel welcome. Overall it was a nice night - a neighborhood gem for sure, I just hope it hangs on longer!"

And when the mgr walked by he asked about our service we complained and that was the end of that. When we paid our bill he didn't even make eye contact. Very disappointed. !!!!!!"

  • "My boyfriend and I went to Cape Cod and the best part of our meal was the bread and spinach. The place was a little dated but we didnt mind that. However, the food was not good. I ordered the oysters rockefeller. When it arrived, it was cold and cheese was a dark yello which looked very processed and like velveeta. For my entree, I ordered the lobster crostini which also didnt taste fresh. My boyfriend got the monkfish which he said was just ok. Since our meals were not great, we did not want to try dessert. When we left, we felt ill for awhile which we think was from how processed the food was. We will not be returning."

  • "This place is a gem. You feel like you are in Cape Cod. The food was fantastic. The wine list is well rounded but smaller than I expected. The waiter was from the old school and was great. The manager stopped by to see how our evening was going. The only hitch was when we were leaving. I guess the only people was eat at Cape Code stay at the hotel and put room number on bill. I paid with my credit card. A server chased us down the hall saying we did not pay. I had a signed receipt and he required me to go back to verify I paid. Sorry I gave about a 25% tip."

  • "Had a marvelous time on New Year's Eve. We were seated all the way in the back with a beautiful view of Oak Street Beach. Snowing and very cozy inside. Very quiet and romantic! It was great for conversation. We decided on the Prix Fixe Menu which was delicious. A nice bottle of champagne was also included. We are looking forward to returning very soon as we live in the area. Wish we would have found this gem sooner. I am a concierge and will be recommending this to my discerning clients."

  • "Dinner is always a treat here. We had Christmas Eve dinner here. Reservations at 8. The ambience Is very charming. The hostess was very friendly And our service staff was very friendly and efficient A few things came out of the kitchen cold but it was very busy most everything was quite good. The one drawback Was a manager named Theodore who seated us and did Not make us feel welcome at all. Not a welcoming Greeting or a sole enjoy your meal."

  • "The only negative experience we had was the maitre d'. I made our reservation more than a month in advance. When we were taken to our table, when no one else was in the restaurant yet, we were given a table in the middle of the path between the kitchen and the bar. I asked for a different table and the maitre d' didn't even look me in the eye but tried to dismiss my request saying that people make reservations a year in advance. Couldn't be very true if I got a reservation a month in advance. He did however give us a better table and our waiter more than made up for it. The food was absolutely delicious. All of it. Not one thing was not great."

  • "The food was very very good - we just thought that a couple of items, such as mushrooms with lobster thermadour didn't go that well, but they both tasted great! You cannot beat the ambience there. It was so special considering the holiday season. The service was also excellent. I would recommend it to those who live in the city and have never experienced it as well as travelers, I've lived here all my life and have never been there before. It is a true gem, hidden away!"

  • "Everything started fine, as when we arrived at the time of our reservation, we were greeted by a very nice hostess, and were taken to our table right away. Then our server came over to the table, introduced herself, and said that she and another man would be taking care of us that evening. She took our drink orders, and we didn't see her at our table for another 30-40 minutes, and it took 15 minutes for our wine to b delivered by someone else, who just sat the glasses down, and didn't say a word. I had to call our waitress back to the table in order to place our dinner order. Now 45 minutes after we were seated!! The food was very good, but HORRIBLE service can ruin a nice meal!! There are many GREAT options not sure I'd try this place."

  • "My husband and I have been going here for many years. We also love Cape Cod, Ma. So when it came time to pick a restaurant for our 29th wedding anniversary we wanted a quiet romantic spot. It was very nostalgic for us as well. Patrick who we knew well just retired as Maitre D, but it was still fun to see waiters we recogized from the past 32years that we have been going there. It was a wonderful evening."
