A word from Cape Cod
The Cape Cod, a much honored seafood restaurant, boasts of fresh seafood from the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, from the lakes and freshwater streams. It has been consistently named as one of America's finest dining spots since opening in 1933. Zagat's consumer survey also picked the Cape Cod as a top hotel restaurant. It was recently inducted by Nation's Restaurant News into the Fine Dining Hall of Fame.

Located on the arcade level, the cozy restaurant, established in 1933 is decked with nautical paraphernalia. Nautical themed, wooden beams, hanging copper pots and stuffed sailfish adorn the room, walls and ceiling of this immensely popular restaurant. Reservations are very strongly recommended.

I was staying in the hotel and it was convenient to enjoy a dinner in this classic restaurant. The ambience was appropriate for the maritime theme. The food was well served by attentive and experienced staff. However, I was disappointed in the meal which was fine but not spectacular. The halibut was bland despite the tempting description in the menu. I am uncertain whether I will give the Cape Cod a second chance.

A sad and disappointing experience. Sad because Dover Sole is no longer available. Not only one disappointed after hearing comments from surrounding tables. Service was disappointing- water service fair, server disappeared after a large group of around 10 were seated next to us (no inquiry about our main course until 22 minutes after it was served), crumbs not cleared after done with main course, not asked if we wanted more wine or more coffee,,,, Sand in one of the Oyster Rockefeller- offered discount but should have been comped. When 10 people were seated next to us, atmosphere changed because of one person who was the closest to us. Voice level was totally unacceptable. Overall, the Cape Cod did not offer a fine-dining experience.

The restaurant was lovely from the nautical east coast decor to the tasty seafood. It is very much themed as if you are on Cape Cod and it felt like I was dining in a boat. The restaurant is definitely geared towards older people and whole family dinners. A friend and I went to check it out and everyone around us was 50+ and we felt judged by our waiter and surrounding guests for being the youngest in the restaurant. Nevertheless, it is really quaint and the food is great so if you are looking for a quiet, unique dining experience Cape Cod is a great option.

Were in town for a convention. Restaurant was recommended by local. Was seated next to a table that was so loud we should have been dining with them. Maybe 12" separated the seating. They were obnoxious and very loud. Waiter did not speak English very well and knew nothing about the menu. Wish we could have a do over. Would have dined somewhere else

The menu was very limited. It was advertised as extensive selection of seafood but we were disappointed with the few choices. The wine list did not include a chardonnay. The food was good but not excellent. The service was extremely show and the waiter was inattentive.

We have been dining here for 40 years. The decor is old elegant nautical. The food and service have always been excellent. We took a few years off and when we went back a year ago, we said "why haven't we been coming here"? When you go, look for Joe Dimaggio's and Marilyn Monroe's initials carved in the bar.

We enjoyed our dinner at the The Cape Cod Room. It's a great traditional establishment in the Gold Coast part of Chicago. I had the King crab legs which were delicious and my girlfriend really enjoyed a healthy serving of the grilled salmon. The lobster bisque was nice and hot and had quite a bit of lobster taste to it which you don't always receive in other restaurants.

Excellent food! I was very impressed with the hotel. I love Cape Cod. My husband and I will be going back every year to dine. Waiter was nice as well. He was slow moving and times we had to get up to get him but over all we loved it. In the lobby of the hotel they had a live jazz band. Fountains and a lounge. It was so very pleasant. I am looking forward to going back there.

Food is mediocre at best, and the fish was overcooked which was a disappointment going to a seafood restaurant - you can do much better for your money in Chicago so don't waste your time. They also lied about availability on the phone and wouldn't take our reservation until later in the night. I decided to check OpenTable and they had availability every 15 minutes and the place was empty... Quite strange they would turn down our attempt to make a reservation over the phone. Will not be returning and suggest you go somewhere else.

The Cape Cod Room is a unique place in the middle of a bustling Midwestern city. Food is very good but not outstanding. (My halibut was a bit dry and fingerling potatoes a bit soggy) But the atmosphere is a woody, small New England type place overlooking East Lake Shore Drive. Great spot for a romantic evening.

  • Still the home of the $25 martini!

We went to the Cape Cod Room on a Saturday nite. It was very empty. We had received in the mail a card for neighbors offering 20% off any of the restaurants in the Drake Hotel. We had a wonderful dinner, wine and service, but when we presented our card with our bill, we were given 20% off ONLY on the food. The card did not state that the discount was on food only. When asked if their martini's were still $25 , we were told that they were. We stopped next door at Rosebud Steak House and had a great martini for $12. The food and service is great, but management has positioned themselves in such a situation that most people only go there once and do not return.

This was the first time I've been to Cape Cod and was excited to bring my mother to celebrate her birthday. Overall, the experience was a bit disappointing. Waiter: Nice guy but for 2 people who had never been to this restaurant, he didn't help us navigate the menu at all. Just asked for our order. We had to ask what the specials were. We weren't aware that everything was a la carte, so we missed out on a side dish. Also, when asked for a 2nd glass of wine, we had to remind him after 20 minutes, as we still didn't get it. Food was very good though. Buttery and delicious. Would have stayed for dessert and coffee if we had been asked, but we were just given the check.

If you're looking for a lovely, quiet dining experience just off Lake Michigan in an iconic setting, you would be hard pressed to find a better spot than Cape Cod. The food is as delicious as one should expect for the price point, and the service is excellent. The décor is classy, if old fashioned, and they have a lovely bar with a fairly deep wine list. We had crab-stuffed shrimp as an appetizer - and I would order two as a meal next time. One of the most delicious creations I have ever tasted. Scallops and lobster rounded off an absolutely wonderful meal.

My wife and I dined at the Cape Cod room at the Drake for our anniversary. It's an old school classic room, not trendy and the staff knows how to take good care of their diners. Our meal was very good and we enjoyed a nice bottle of wine. Our only disappointment, albeit a minor one was that the lobster mac and cheese didn't appear to have any lobster in it. It was tasty nonetheless.

I've been dining at the Cape Cod for years, but haven't been there in about two years. I recently had dinner there and was thoroughly disappointed with the change in menu (they no longer have surf and turf, or lobster) and the quality of the food that they did serve was only fair and the portion sizes were small. For the price that this restaurant charges they need to step it up big time. Plate presentation was lacking as well. The service was slow, had to wait ten minutes for the check, and I noticed I was not the only patron that was not satisfied that evening. I will not return.

I was raised on the Dover Sole and you can not get that any where else. That is why we keep coming back. The decor is charming and romantic and famous and the food and wine are always excellent. It is a quiet haven in the hustle and bustle of Michigan Ave. For Chicago raised people this is an institution that gratefully has not changed.

Traveled to Chicago to tag along with wife for her business meeting. Searched OT and found Cape Cod. I'm not a huge seafood fan, but my wife is. Setting is great, service was excellent, appetizer and my wife's scallops were excellent. Unfortunately, none of the seafood dishes appealed to me so order the tenderloin. It was not great. Very tough and difficult to cut. I had to ask for a different knife, but that was little better. It was slightly undercooked med rare instead of the med I ordered. I didn't send it back, but I couldn't eat much of it. I wish I liked seafood more.

This turned out to be a fantastic meal. The Cape Cod has world class fresh seafood in a setting reminiscent of the 1920's and 1930's. I highly recommend the Halibut en papillote. It was cooked to perfection and the fresh dill really added a nice zing to a very hearty white-fish. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her shell fish sampler (which included oysters, shrimp, clams and lobster) and couldn't get enough of their mussels. The bar also can create those classic cocktails (I had an amazing Old-Fashioned as well as a Sazerac) and my wife really enjoyed her mojito. Be prepared to sit and relax and enjoy a restaurant that offers you the tastiest and most fresh seafood around.

Traditional preparations and good old-fashioned treatment. In the Drake Hotel, this restaurant serves good food in solid, traditional style. Seafood, steaks, chops were well prepared. The king crab legs and a special, the shrimp de jonge, were both were good though not outstanding. The accompanying asparagus was nicely prepared, and not mushy. Corn on the cob and roasted potatoes were standard. Our desserts, a banana napoleon and a keylime parfait, were fine, just not fantastic. It could probably use some updating, but if you are looking for traditional fare prepared well in the traditional way, with a quiet, romantic ambience, this is it. Unlike so many newer restaurants, it was nice and quiet.
