Followed waitersDelicious!! Followed waiters recommendations and was not disappointed!! Divine wonderful meal!!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWe dine here every time weWe dine here every time we visit Sn Francisco,, about four times a year. This trip we ate there twice. There is no better authentic Italian cuisine in SF. Pastas are perfect, especially the pappardelle. The service is as all restaurants should be; very friendly, but always aware of the needs of the diners.Feels very comfortable, but ,nothing like the typical noisy little Italian place with crowded tables. No, this place is a proper, but never intimidating, dining experience.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the Very Best!Capaninna is one of the best restaurants in San Francisco. It is vibrant and the food is consistently excellent. We always take out of town guests there for a special dinner. We have never been disappointed!4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWe flew in from Seattle toWe flew in from Seattle to spend the weekend in SF for a special birthday and chose this restaurant for our official dinner celebration.
It was absolutely wonderful. The food was fabulous....exceeding even the high hopes and expectations we had based on the exceptional reviews from other diners. Can't say enough about absolutely everything...food, ambiance, service...and we will most definitely return to Campannina the next time we are in SF!!4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMPasta is always high qualityPasta is always high quality and light; the tortellini with braised rib just melts in your mouth; and the ceasar with dungeness crab was very fresh4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved It !I was very impressed with the quality of the food and would recommend Capannina for every Foodies.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMAuthentic Italian in MarinaAbsolutely delicious and authentic Italian. The Caesar salad with crab was delicate and a perfect match of flavors. My penne arrabiata with shrimp was exactly what I'd hoped. Rich spicy tomato sauce with generous amount of perfect briny sweet shrimp. Fiancé enjoyed salmon with an unusual vegetable accompaniment of artichokes and fennel with olives, capers and tomatoes. And the profiteroles for dessert! Early prix fixe an excellent deal.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWe took some friends fromWe took some friends from out of town here- they were so impressed they want to visit again just to eat here! It's fine by me, I'd eat here every night if I could.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMFun local restaurantA group of 6 went for our birthdays, they reserved a great window table looking right out onto Union street. They were ready for us when we arrived and service was prompt. Even with a full restaurant the service was great.
The food was very yummy and with good quantities. I cannot be specific about one dish, but everyone cleaned their plates!
The owner/manager (not sure which) kept checking to make sure everything was ok.
The place is VERY loud, which was probably good for our slightly obnoxious group of women, but it would be very hard to hear over a conversation at a normal level.
I enjoyed this place and hope to return soon!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWent with a couple we hadWent with a couple we had not seen for years and are very dear friends! It was close to perfect.food was fantastic, pacing of the delivery was superb.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMThe was authentic Italian,The
was authentic Italian, and the service was attentive even with a full house of cutomers. The staff was helpful to our group of 6 andwe loved eating there. Will definetly go back.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food, warm peopleWe loved this excellent restaurant--the owner and all the staff made us feel at home, and the food is, quite simply, amazing. Ohh, the crab bisque (a special)...the scallops and ink squid risotto...profiteroles...truly a gem.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is a comfortable neighborhoodThis is a comfortable neighborhood restaurant. Go early or on Sunday to avoid the crowds and increased noise.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food is amazing and theThe food is amazing and the ambiance delightful. One of our favorite restaurants and Michele (the owner)couldn't be nicer or more accommodating. The same can be said of Sergio, one of our favorite waiters.
They have an "early bird" dinner from 5-7PM which is unblievable. Same portion of food as on the regular menu which includes a choice of three first courses, four or five entrees and you get to pick any desert from the menu...all for $25. Bargain of the century if you don't mind eating on the early side.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMLove This Restaurant! We invited friends to join us for our second visit to Capannina and were delighted to find the same delicious, inventive, high quality offerings served by the very attentive staff. I chose the Risotto Nero, a signature dish, paired with Caesar Salad topped with chunks of Dungeness Crab--fabulous! My husband loves the Beef Carpaccio and ordered the Tuscan Brick-pressed chicken. He shared tastes and all of us decided to return just for that dish alone. Oysters were wonderful and our friend's selection of Sea Bass wrapped in pancetta was another winner. Our server recommended a good chianti and we shared the Warm Chocolate Cake with Hazelnut ice cream. Can't wait to come back next time we're in the city.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMThe best Italian food in SanThe best Italian food in San Francisco? Could be! Varied selection and everything we had tasted as if my grandmother had prepared it! Exceptional service, quality food, and remarkable value! My choice for best Italian food in San Francisco!3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMAuthentic Italian in the marinaCapannina was very surprising in its commitment to authentic Italian. You would find your bland american-ized italian food here. Delicious, fresh ingredients combined in very unique dishes make for a great meal.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMI enjoy the friendly atmosphereI enjoy the friendly atmosphere at Capannina and love their burrata and broccoli rabe appetizer. I have only had their pasta, and each one I have had is delicious. I particularly enjoy the penne with spicy tomato sauce, prawns and arugula. Delicious! Highly recommend Capannina!3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat neighborhood Italian rest.Due to the lack of parking, we had a bit of a rushed dinner(my wife was speaking at a nearby school) but the staff were able to still make it a pleasurable experience. I picked the restaurant for it's price fixe menu that had a Caesar salas with crab(lovely combo) and a grilled salmon with asparagus. I had seen the menu online, but was informed that the asparagus was no longer part of the PF meal, but they would do it for me, which was nice. Both were excellent. I'd order the full Caesar next time just to have more of it. The dressing was no a true Caesar but that was fine as it allowed the crab to be tasted. My wife had ravioli stuffed with beef shanks. Quite delicate and tasty. Wine was expensive for what you got. Will definitely return.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMSix of us had dinner here.Six of us had dinner here. The service was exceptional. The food was very very good - some things were better than others. The grilled calamari was outstanding as were the pastas. The brick chicken was good, but the side vegetables/potatoes were a bit boring. Portion sizes varied widely between the entrees (chicken was huge, scallopine was not). Wine list ws extensive and well priced.3/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
