Diner Reviews
  • "The service was definitely lacking. The food was decent, but expected a little higher grade at a golf course club. My salad lettuce was not bright and crisp and it was drenched in dressing. The brunch is pretty spectacular, lots to choose from, prefer the omelette bar to precooked food. They didn't have egg whites...bad. The scones were off the charts good. Would have been nice if they had berries as well as melon in the fruit. Its a club, it should be a cut above. And how about a seafood platter with big shrimp, crab, etc? The view is spectacular, just wish the food and service were better."

  • "Great ocean view from a distance, tasty food, somewhat reasonable but I use it for mostly special occasions. Great brunch, good selection of food and desserts, breads. I had the salmon w/Kale and quinoa..delicious - also recommend the butternut squash soup....I'll be back for sure and have already recommended it to friends!"

  • "This is a great venue with decent food and good service. It should be more successful but it remains not too well known for some reason. It could be that the prices are a bit on the high side but for business purposes, it remains a good spot for conversation."

  • "Went here with a part of 6 Had a Sunday brunch that wasn't too expensive and came with bottomless mimosas :-) We sat on the porch and had a commanding view of the ocean, golf course and an incoming odd summer storm with lightning The brunch was pretty typical - omelet station, hunk of meat being carved, potatoes, veggies, salads, deserts and other brunch dishes Everything was well prepared and tasty The space is large with plenty of big tables and some private rooms My 7 year old daughter got bored and did gymnastics on part of the golf course and no one bothered her, so its kid tolerant Parking is plentiful"

  • "Loved the food and the service. It was a pleasant lunch with well prepared food and an excellent view. Worth a lunch date or a Sunday brunch event because of the offerings."

  • "There was no one in the dining area, totally empty. A sign stated "Seat Yourself". No one met us after 5 minutes so we left. Not much else to say."

  • "Pros: Not too crowded at opening, wide selection of food items and dessert items, BACON!, omelet/egg station, Prime Rib available, salads were delicious Cons: OJ in mimosas tasted low qual, Coffee was so-so, Gravy on biscuits and gravy was weird"

  • "A friend intro'd me to this spot recently for lunch...loved it! Its not often that one thinks of a golf club restaurant as an option but this restaurant is fantastic & I can't wait to go back. Brought my 15mo daughter, sat outside & enjoyed a great lunch (they were very accommodating with kid meal also). Highly recommend!"

  • "The Canyons has all the makings of a great local restaurant - beautiful new building, great views of golf course and ocean, and nice servers. We had a great brunch on Sunday - prime rib, omelettes, salads, pastries, etc. A few nights before we went for happy hour and it was good too. We loved the portobello quesdilla. So my main issue is this - the so so service and banquet room decor. This is a stunning restaurant with amazing views but the meeting chairs and white tablecloths make you feel like you're in a holiday inn. And this place is consistently empty. We need more dining options here locally and this is a great place but they need to redecorate, enhance service, and market to the local community."

  • "This restaurant is outstanding - food is terrific, service is terrific, and it seems to be a little known secret in Carlsbad. The Sunday brunch is the best in the entire area, although we hesitate to broadcast that. The quality of the food and service never waivers."

  • "The salmon Caesar salad and the Crossings burger were good! The wine selection was poor and the hot lava cake was dry."

  • "Wow the view is great. Got there at 5:30 and the place was empty. A golfing group came in later and that was it. It was the week of the SD fires. Husbands chicken strips dry. My sliders with chips were good. Side salad big enough to share with several people. Others in the group had pizza and the quesadilla which they seemed to enjoy. Wine good. Will try again"

  • "I came for a 10:45 Open Table reservation and when we got there, only a "Seat Yourself" sign greeted us. Obviously, reservations were unnecessary. By the time a human appeared to give us menus, the presented the lunch menu, because it was "after 11 and they switch to lunch". Well, we would have come earlier, had we known, but more importantly, we would have had breakfast if someone had appeared when we "seated ourselves". The food was decent, but because it was so cold, and my 93 year old mother was shaking, the meal, was just OK. Service was very slow, and there were only 2 other tables, so I have no idea why."

  • "My sister and I took my mom out to breakfast for an early Mother's Day. The ambience was great. Beautiful view and we were able to sit and talk as long as we wanted. It wasn't crowded, and that was probably because the food was not good. My mom had eaten there before, and she said the food was much better the last time she went. I do not recommend ordering the spinach feta scramble because it was watery and tasteless. My mom and sister didn't much like their breakfasts either. Sis ordered wheat toast and the server had to come back and say they "were out of wheat bread." A little odd for a restaurant, early in the morning, serving breakfast. You'd think that on Mother's Day weekend a restaurant would be stocked and ready for business. "

  • "Met a friend for lunch. Didn't have several wines listed as they were 'cleaning out their stock' ? We ended up having a cabernet - it was okay. My entrée was the steak salad and it was good, cooked perfectly medium rare - just the way I like it. My friend had the Ahi salad and calamari for an appetizer; she wasn't impressed. The waitress was friendly. The view was beautiful. We each had one glass of wine and a salad with one entrée and it ended up being $37 split in half. I expect more for this price."

  • "We gathered with out-of-town family for lunch at Canyons and had a wonderful experience. The view is lovely and food delicious. It was the perfect atmosphere to visit and enjoy time and a great meal with loved ones."

  • "We were a party of seven. Servers were not very friendly. Food was so so . Hamburgers, came without condiments we had to wait for the servers' attention and then another 5 minutes to get the condiments. (Mayo, mustard, ect.) By then the hamburgers were cold. Right after our lunch they started to set up for a large wedding, they never explained that they needed the space to set up and ended walking to the balcony so we could visit for a little while. I called a couple of times to confirm the reservation , no one answered the phone , left a message and no one called black. Nice building and set up. The view weas great."

  • "The atmosphere was lovely. I was greeted cordially and walked to my table where my friend was awaiting! I ordered the Caesar salad with salmon and wish I was hungrier because it was a generous portion. We ate lunch for about an hour and throughout the lunch the service was good!"

  • "A decent meal (but be sure to check the menu when you order a Caesar salad, as it is made here with strawberries!). The chef even accommodated me by changing the broth for the mussels to one without spicy sausage. Service was excellent with Joyce. Food was pleasant and the view is wonderful."

  • "This restaurant is great for 2 - 4 - 8 - or more guests. I have been there twice within the last 2 weeks with a party of 5 and we have been placed at one of the large round tables which was very difficult to converse with each other. Both times we all moved the chairs close together. The small tables could not accommodate us - and the large round tables were too large for our group of 5."

  • "I've eaten at this restaurant before and the food is usually very good as is the views. The service is usually okay but on more than one occasion, it has suffered. For instance, at the recent brunch, we had to go find our waiter to get refills of drinks."

  • "We had a very enjoyable experience. We are from San Clemente and were meeting our San Diego relatives half way for Sunday brunch. The atmosphere is very relaxing and great for conversation. We appreciated the friendly service. The buffet is fabulous. We loved the omelet station and their prime rib is excellent. We plan to do this again."

  • "Very disappointed by the Sunday Brunch. Food offerings were limited and not replenished as they were picked over. Seemed messy and borderline unsanitary. Service was just ok. The restaurant itself is nice and the views are pretty."

  • "I had a reservation at the Canyons restaurant and they closed early because attendance was low, so I never got the chance to eat there. Perhaps their food is good, maybe even great, but they have such early closing hours (I think 6:30pm on fridays?), so it is not geared towards dinner. I called to confirm my reservation and they said I was good to go, but 10 minutes later they called and said "we are closing early, so we have to cancel your reservation". No offer to reschedule my reservation, or apology for the inconvenience. I guess my reservation was not important enough for them to stay open."

  • "Even thought here was only 3 tables occupied, ours included, the service was pathetic and after we asked for service, we were served with a hissy fit attitude of a 4 year old,. That kind of attitude is definitely not suitable for an establishment like this. We are quite disappointed as we have frequented this establishment before - for lunch, but sad to say the service has become less acceptable."

  • "We had a group of nine people and could talk and hear what was said by each person. . You could hear people around talking but we could not hear their conversations ! Most of us ordered something different, and each dish was enjoyed very much. Was a very relaxing time for all of us."

  • "We had the buffet brunch here last Sunday. The food was great, and the $24.95 included unlimited mimosas. We started out outside to enjoy the view, but ended up coming inside because it was too hot. Evidently, the table we moved to inside was in no man's land so our service was very sketchy but the food, the price and the view were great."

  • "This restaurant has the best view on a beautiful, clear, sunny day. With the floor-to-ceiling windows, we could see the golf course as well as the ocean. The food was good and the service was good. The restaurant reminds me of a good country club, after-golf dining restaurant with a great view."

  • "Not very many items on the menu that you would normally find. We both had the "hamburger" which was named something else and they were very good. It comes with a fried egg in it and neither of us wanted that. I ordered it without the egg and husband had it on the side. Also had a layer of a crispy melted Parmesan type cheese. Whole thing was a bit greasy but very good. Large portion. Wine list did not have our normal choices but what the waiter suggested was very good. Only complaint would be that we didn't feel the waiter was very attentive. And we both thought he needed to wash us a bit."

  • "My wife and I made a reservation and enjoyed your Thanksgiving brunch. I thought that I was going to pay $30 per person for the brunch and was frankly surprised when I got the bill for $42.50 per person. No problem, I could have misread the on-line reservation data, but frankly I didn't think that the Thanksgiving brunch was worth the premium. I say this having, somewhat hypocritically, since we gave flattering feedback to the chef who warmly greeted us at our table (nice touch)."
