Diner Reviews
  • "The food was amazing, as were the drinks! The guac was made-to-order and at our table - it was fresh and delicious. My friends and I will definitely be back again."

  • "Brought a last minute group here of about 10 and had a great time. Waiters were very accommodating and they put us in a semi-private room. I absolutely recommend this for brunch or to stop by the bar."

  • "A nice place to entertain an out-of-town client. Reasonable prices. Fresh dishes - both classic and new twists."

  • "Delicious selections with great portion sizing. The experience was great overall, but it would be nice not to have to raise my voice to have a conversation with my husband."

  • "Not very authentic, typical mass chain fare. Although the Carnitas chops were very good, everything else was fair at best. The table side guac, neat but gimmicky, was bland and lacked any pop. Fish tacos were mushy, not flaky. Chips and salsa seemed like it came from a Pepe's. Worst of all, the drinks were horrible. There was nothing refreshing about the mojito; it was bitter but somehow lacked acidity. I don't how they did it, but it was a chore to drink, a cringe with every sip until I gave up. the margarita was watery.... I guess I should have known better to expect a decent meal. Although the ambiance with the restaurant opening up to the patio outside was nice, it was not enough to save it. Service was good."

  • "The food was ok, nothing special. We had the table side guacamole, which was good. The Casarita "famous" margarita is nothing to shout home about. I don't know why every Mexican restaurant claims to have the world's best margaritas. If they were using fresh squeezed limes, then they might be in the running. I had one of the enchilada plates, and there was only one! I've never only seen a single enchilada served at a Mexican restaurant, usually it's two. It tasted good, but small portion size for the price. I would not come back here since there was nothing that stood out and I could get better food at nearby restaurants for better prices."

  • "cantina Laredo is not your father's Mexican restaurant. The decor is very sleek and modern but with a Southwestern feel. Our server was attentive. The food is average. I had the barbacoa tacos."

  • "The drinks and guacamole was very good. The dinner was just average."

  • "This was the first time my husband and I had been here. So we ended having dinner for his birthday. The restaurant is very nice and music was good, but the food was not what we expected. My husband ordered the carne asada, and I ordered the fish tacos. My husbands steak was cooked good but was really salty, and my fish tacos were really bland, no flavor what so ever. I had to put some ceviche on the tacos to give it some flavor, I think that was the best part of the whole meal was the ceviche. Needless to say the food was ok but the atmosphere was nice."

  • "Surprised to find such a contemporary setting for traditional Mexican/TexMex fare. Great Margarita's (fresh lime!). The Seafood Chile Relleno was delicious!"

  • "Our waitress was the guiding force to an Outstanding review. Her name was Yessica, I believe. She knew her product; was personable; & did everything with a smile (I changed my drink twice & didn't see as much as a frown from her)."

  • "The food was great and it was a nice setting for my boyfriend's birthday get together. The servers from the bar to when were seated were not friendly. They seemed preoccupied and unfriendly. It was towards the end of the night, due to our reservation being at 10:30pm. Near the scheduled closing time the staff kept walking back and forth near our table and shot us rude looks. I'm pretty sure management was included due to their attire. Although the food was great, the quality of service will keep me from going back or suggesting others to go."

  • "We found the food to be fresh with a summery feeling. The ceviche was great! The chicken tacos were light!"

  • "Our first day in Chicago we left Wrigley wondering what was for dinner. We'd spotted Cantina Laredo across from our hotel when we checked-in and decided to give it a whirl - we weren't disappointed! The food was superb, the ambience was fresh, the service was great! It was also fun having the guacamole made fresh, table side; it was scrumptious to eat as well! Definitely a spot to dine!"

  • "Went there Saturday night for our moms birthday. Service was attentive and ambiance very nice. Beer list was very short but cocktails were plentiful. Ribeyes were perfect, carne asada very tasty. Chicken was just so so. Table side guacamole was spot on and complimentary salsas were Great. Would recommend to a friend."

  • "A good location near Michigan Avenue but out of the main crush. Very nice contemporary interior with clean lines and light colored walls with plenty of light. Outdoor dining is available but keep in mind the restaurant sits at a major intersection and so car noise and the occasional fire truck will compete with your conversation. As they will tell you they are known for their margaritas and made-at-the-table guacamole. I had both, both were spectacular. We lucked out and snagged a table for two at 7pm on a Friday night using OpenTable with only one hour leadtime, but they were packed with a line by the time we left. I would recommend reserving early if you can."

  • "This restaurant is such a beautiful place to dine in, the interior is absolutely gorgeous and the food is simple but excellent. Table-side guacamole making is a must. The rice and beans that came with my absolutely wonderful tacos were a subpar at best and very bland. Mixed drinks are excellent."

  • "We tried this place during Restaurant Week...it was ok. Overpriced. Nice presentation with little flavor. It felt like they were trying too hard. The service wasn't great...long waits to get a drink and order. On the upside, it is very clean and had large booths/tables so it would be good for groups. They also appear to have a space for large groups upstairs...we would know bc the sorority that left stood with the doors open instead of using the revolving door (we were seated at the bottom of the staircase by the front door.) the staff did nothing to direct them despite it being -15 outside. Overall disappointed."

  • "GREAT for lunch! Awesome chips and salsa, amazing guac. Everything is delicious. I already want more."

  • "Great fresh ingredients. Must go restaurant! If you can believe this...the food comes out so fast its almost just too quick. So maybe pause before ordering next course."

  • "Overall I enjoyed myself. However, the upstairs during happy hour was a bit confusing. I was told that a specific area was set aside for ppl during happy hr and that if I wanted to order off that menu I would have to move. Yet I explained my confusion to the waitress because this was my first time here, she was understanding, accommodating and very pleasant."

  • "This is a very refeshing take on mexican food...not too greasy and not over-Americanized, but with a bit of a fusion feel. Nice open decor with large windows to let in the light and that open right up on nice days. Service was good and they are not stingy whatsoever with the free chips and salsa, which was better than your typical free tableside salsa. Try the Carne Asada Poblano and the Tuna Tacos!"

  • "This is a very special Mexican restaurant. A variety of entrees which exhibit a complexity and subtleness of tastes."

  • "The food was very good. Enchiladas de barbacoa were tasty and brought out fast. And then desert. Words can not describe how good the mexican brownie was. "

  • "Was traveling on business and met a friend from Chicago here for drinks and dinner. They brag about their margaritas, but I'm from California and found them to be very average, but expensive. Food was great. Tasted fresh and full of quality ingredients. Lots of big groups (8 - 12 people) and the restaurant seems built for that type of business. Decor is clean and open, maybe a bit sterile. It was a warm day and the folding doors were opened to a small outdoor patio which was great. A good place to meet a friend or take a group. "

  • "Food was outstanding. So much flavor. The tableside guacamole was SO good. The margaritas were on the mark. Great place to go. We actually were sat by a very loud group of people and when we asked to have them quieted down, they did so and they offer to move us to the otherside of the restaurant as well. Manager was great. Next time we are back to Chicago, we are going back!!"

  • "Not much expectation about mexican style restaurant but I found a very nice, comfortable place and good food to tried."

  • "This was my first visit at Cantina Laredo. The food is really good and fresh, they even made the guacomole right at my table! Drinks were good and everything was reasonably priced. The service was really slow on Sunday and they weren't that busy so not sure if that's an anomoly or not. The restaurant itself is spacious and modern looking. The floor to ceiling windows were all open so a nice breeze blowing thru the restaurant that afternoon too."

  • "Food and service was great. The hostess staff was a little less than accommodating and somewhat rude. Overall, good experience"

  • "Nice space - and tables not on top of each other. Good food - Nice range of options, well beyond typical Mexican fare. Decent prices - especially for River North. "

  • "Terrific food in a modern, airy environment. We were there for lunch but got a sneak peek at the upstairs lounge and I can't wait to go back! "

  • "Large and sleek, nice place for upscale Mexican just off the Mag Mile. Folding glass walls can be opened to small patio with a fire pit. Table side Guacamole is excellent and plenty for four people. The tacos were delicious but the rice and beans were sub-average. Ok Margaritias but I couldn't tell they were made with the advertised fresh lime juice. Nice big bar that was sparesly filled from 5 to 7 pm, but it was a Tuesday."

  • "Our waiter didn't even introduced himself. The wait for our drinks was quite long. Drinks were not good at all! The food was ok nothing to brag about really. I've had better shirt steak from less expensive restaurants. I would not recommend this restaurant! "

  • "steak was cooked just right and tender to the touch, the rice seemed to imitate a quick 10 minute rice box you find at the grocery store, however, the chimichuri sauce settled everything perfectly. "
