A word from Canonita
Bringing to mind the authentic taquerias of the legendary marketplaces of Mexico, Chef Donna Willey brings you Canonita. This casual and exciting Mexican dining experience features an authentic, rustic menu of "Mexico-City Soul Food" with delectable tacos, ceviches and mouth watering barbacoa made with savory fire-roasted meats, grilled vegetables and the freshest seafood. Hand-made tortillas, refreshing salsas and fresh-juice Star Margaritas provide guests
with an unforgettable "true taste of Mexico." The bustling open-air kitchen adds to the home-style warmth and energy of Canonita as do the patio festoon lighting and umbrellas with lively Salsa and Tejano music. Behind the bar many imported cervezas are featured alongside old-world Sangria and many premium Mexican tequilas, perfect for relaxed sipping.

Diner Reviews
  • "With reservations we were prompty seated by the requested table overlooking the canal. Ordered pork tacos and margaritas. Yummy. Guacomole had a slight kick and was a wow. Would order again! :)"

  • "We made a very last minute reservation for 11 people and they were able to get us in at the time we requested. The hostess was very helpful when we arrived and we were seated quickly. It was clear from then on that they were short on wait staff for the night. Our server was as responsive as she could be with on other large table and others as well, but bar service was very slow. Guacamole was surprisingly good and had a nice spice to it, but my choice for entree was not available so instead had the carne asada, which was fine, but a little tough, even for carne asada. Overall, it worked, and was better than a Chevey's or something like that, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go back."

  • "This is our second trip to Canonita. We came early and enjoyed our margaritas at happy hour. You do have to order chips and salsa. My husband had the pork barbacoa and it was the most tender meat I had ever tried. I had the salmon, which was blackened but not spicy. The location of this restaurant is so charming with the gondoliers singing as they go by. A nice place for Mexican food."

  • "I ate here yesterday and we waited 20 mins for our table to become free and over an hour for our food and due to other business commitments we had to leave our food half eaten."

  • "More than just tacos and buritos. Their signature poke dish is worth going back for. We were a group of guys, but somewhat romantic being next to the canal."

  • "The Canonita is a fun restaurant located alongside the Grand Canal Shops of the Venetian and Palazzo Resorts. Literally located alongside the canals, it is a bit strange to be enjoying excellent Mexican meals while a gondola passes by with the godola operator singing in Italian. The atmosphere is lively, but quiet enough for a nice dinner conversation. It is located indoors, but the sky mural painted on the Grand Canal ceilings make you feel like your are outdoors. The food is very good and good value. I would definitely go back again and would recommend others to go for a nice, not overly priced meal."

  • "It's in the Venetian along the river, beautiful! Pineapple margarita was very good as was the Sangria - fruity and refreshing. Dark and spicy salsa- liked. For dinner we had ?Pork Barbacoa? Smoky slow cooked and delicious. Plenty of food. We also had grilled MahiMahi. The fish was thick cut, grilled perfectly , and sever over a bed of southern greens with a light cilantro based sauce and a roasted corn salsa... Yummmm . Get reservations using open table as it can fill up."

  • "Was on the indoor canal so gondolas going by which was nice. Good food and ambiance. Reasonable price. Centrally located by Venetian so perfect for meal before a show as well. Would definitely go back!"

  • "There are so many great restaurants in Vegas so it was disappointing to just get average. Our service was excellent but the food was just O.K"

  • "I went with a group of friends, and it was a really great place to eat a group meal. The chips and salsa are classic (but skip the guac). Most of us got margaritas or mojitos; the jalapeno margarita had a really nice flavor and extra kick. A friend and I split the taco sampler (5 tacos) and the flautas (on the appetizer menu) . The flautas (especially the avocado/tomatillo sauce that came with it) were amazing! This is a great find in Las Vegas as well: it's super affordable for the location and it's on the "river" inside the Venetian!"

  • "The location on the inside canal in the Venetian was very pleasant and relaxed. It was great for a casual business dinner, quiet enough to talk and the food was very good and reasonable (for Vegas)."

  • "I brought my wife to Las Vegas for her 40th birthday. We passed by your restaurant several time whilst shopping in the Canal shops. We decided to try. The wait staff was very, friendly and pulchritudinous. The food was excellent and the drinks were just just as palatable. The fact that the restaurant is close to the Gondola rides is a plus and adds to the romantic flair. To add it up... Delicious dinner, awesome drinks and romance= an unforgettable experience. We will be back."

  • "I had a reservation but still to wait 1 hour before my table was ready as the manager of the Restaurant accepts any reservation even the Redtaurant is overbooked."

  • "Great meal! Had a seat on the railing and it was very entertaining and enjoyable. This was one of the most enjoyable meals we had in Vegas."

  • "we had good service from Mario, very attentive, his recommendations were excellent and we didn't feel rushed at all and most of all, with how expensive food is in Las Vegas, it was a nice find and moderately priced."

  • "The restaurant is nice, with a great location on the canal. Fun to sit outside and watch the gondolas go by. Service was great but the food was just OKAY."

  • "We were disappointed that there was no option for children. Burrito or nachos ained at children would gave given this restaurant 5 stars"

  • "Had to give it another try. Have been here before a couple other times and the time before last was not a very good experience with the wait person, drinks or food. Have to say this time around we were well taken care of! and the drinks and food were very good. We always like to give a restaurant the benefit of the doubt that they were having an off evening and I believe that was the case the time before."

  • "Great food, very reminiscent of Mexico City (the Tortilla Soup is a must-have) .. and a fantastic location, too - right next to the Venetian canal. Our server was very attentive, and took excellent care of us."

  • "I am OBSESSED with mexican food, this is by far one of my favorite spots"
    Dined on 11/3/2013
  • "Located at the end of the gondola ride turnaround, Canonita is a pleasant "outdoor" place for mexican food. The gondoliers sing as they pass, and the tables all front on the canal, so yo don't get pedestrian traffic right past your table. Service was attentive and pleasant, and knowledgable about the menu. Pricing is moderate for Las Vegas. Chips and Salsa were pretty tasteless, but the chips were warm. Entrees were hot and tasted good, but took a while to arrive. Quality was a little better than average for your usual mexican restaurant, and portions were adequate."

  • "The Italian outdoor ambience indoor is not to be missed. Service was a little lackluster, however. Had to ask for salsa, beverage refill with our meal. Food was alright but the Tres Leches was the bomb!"

  • "It was my mothers bday! It was perfect! Loved the food & the atmosphere!"

  • "We eat here every year when we visit Vegas. The food is good and not your typical Mexican food. The salsa, queso and tacos are full of flavor. Plus, it's right on the indoor canal, so the ambiance is great."

  • "Sat right on the canal. It was unique and added some fun to the dinner. Easy to talk and enjoy better than expected Mexican food."
