Diner Reviews
  • "To get to any other restaurant, we have to pass Canoe. For the last 12 years, the car just seems to turn in there."

  • "I have eaten at this restaurant several times with the family. Mostly celebrations like birthdays or anniversaries. I wanted to take my Fiancé there to celebrate his recent return from a year in South Korea. I called once to ask if we could see the river because of the special occasion, and I got the usual 'We will do our best.' We did get a wonderful view of the river. The server knew my name before even meeting us at the table, and without skipping a beat welcomed my fiancé home. The service at this restaurant goes above and beyond the norm. We will go back without a doubt! Oh yeah I forgot to mention they have the best mussels I have ever eaten! 10/10!"

  • "I took my girlfriend here for her birthday and it was an overall enjoyable experience. I requested a table by the windows so that we could overlook the river. The place is beautiful inside and elicits an upscale vibe without the usual air of pretension that accompanies nicer restaurants in Atlanta. My girlfriend had the halibut and risotto which she absolutely adored while I had the rabbit with bacon ravioli. The rabbit was good but not as great as some reviews would lead you to believe as it almost tasted like plain chicken to me. For dessert my girlfriend had the chocolate grotto while I had the mojito parfait. The grotto was very tasty but incredibly rich. The parfait tasted just like a much sweeter mojito but without the alcohol."

  • "Wonderful evening with business dinner for 10. Our Division President was in town from California. They set us up with a large round for easy discussions and a beautiful view of the river. Food was absolutely delicious and the staff were attentive but not intrusive. I would recommend to anyone. Will bring friends next time or spouse. "

  • "Canoe is one of Atlanta's hidden gems. It's a great place for business luncheons, special events, weddings and wedding receptions."

  • "Despite coming during a "1000 point" (and so slightly slower time), we were put in the back corner in a booth. Would have much preferred a spot closer to the window to enjoy the view, especially given that the restaurant wasn't full. The food was good. Two of the four in our group ordered appetizers as our entrees and the waitress gave us a bit of subtle shaming that we wouldn't have enough food (although we both had plenty) That always rubs me the wrong way because it's hard to not feel like their pushing for a bigger tip. Service was also a bit slow. Still, beautiful views and could see this being a nice romantic spot."

  • "This was the best place we've been to celebrate our birthday's by far. The ambience and scenery were perfect for a romantic dinner. The food was excellent and the wait staff was extremely knowledgeable of the menu and very helpful in suggestions for dinner and dessert!"

  • "We dined here for our anniversary. It was a success! Beautiful views, very nice staff, and great food. They even removed the entree from the bill due to the fact that my wife didn't like the duck. I tried it and it was great! I did make sure to tip our fantastic waitress on the original bill. FYI, they only have valet parking."

  • "Location location location. A beautiful spot on the river- bird watchers' paradise. Very nicely staffed from valet , hostess , to waitstaff . A very special spot."

  • "Canoe stands on its own in Atlanta! The setting alongside one of the nicest stretches of the Hooch' is perfect and their gardens are beautifully maintained. The food is amazing and features many wonderful experiments on traditional American cuisine. I highly recommend the slow roasted Carolina rabbit. It was perfect. They are also known for their fine seafood of the not-so-typical fare. This is a perfect spot to have a romantic or special occasion of celebration and you won't be disappointed. The service is top-notch. Please don't underdress and treat this place with the respect it deserves. A dinner jacket for the guys fits in well as does a nice, simple dress for the ladies."

  • "Every visit to Canoe is something to look forward to. This time it was to celebrate a milestone birthday. We asked for a banquette with a view and were whisked to one upon arrival. Salmon appetizer so good it was tempting to order 8 more to serve as our entrée. Pork chop and quail special were perfectly prepared and delicious. Desserts, popcorn sundae was just OK and the blueberry tart OK but just didn't seem fresh. Canoe has the most beautiful view and setting. We wish they had more appetizers or small plates as we enjoy the bar as well but don't always want full meals. The duck and beef burger is outstanding but just wish for more variety."

  • "The food is, without exception, excellent. Variety and quality of cocktail offerings is amazing. However, the wait staff is a little over the top, we know we are at a fine dining establishment, you don't need to overdo the service."

  • "I took my boyfriend here to celebrate his birthday. The ambiance, view of the river, and service were outstanding. We had a wonderful time. My boyfriend had the rabbit and he said it was wonderful."

  • "Service is great. Setting is spectacular. The food was prepared great but could have been more hot. It must have sat before being delivered to our table. We saw Vince Vaughn!"

  • "This was our 3rd visit in the last year and we have to drive 100 miles. The food is perfect, the service better than any restaurant (great job Darren) and the ambience is spectacular. We love it!"

  • "Had a wonderful lunch with EXCELLENT service, care of Mitch. I am a big fan of individual staff members, and I will request him again in the future. The funny/tragic story is from one of your patrons. I was meeting a tall, handsome, 50's African American senior member of a local prosecutors office for lunch, and while he was standing out front (as I walked up), I watched one of your other patrons try to deal with him as if he was a Valel. Tried to hand keys to a guy who locks up people for decades. Talk about embarrassing. Don't know what you can do about it absent a few more valets or some more "distinctive" uniforms."

  • "I took my wife here on Saturday night as a surprise dinner, and it was great! It was our first time dining at Canoe and we were very impressed. The few hiccups that happened weren't enough to deter us from having a great time. We will definitely be coming back again!"

  • "My first time visiting this restaurant ...the staff was very knowledgeable about the menu and very helpful in helping you pick out food for your taste. The scenery was beautiful and tranquil I would recommend this place in a heart beat."

  • "We sat outside on the patio and it was borderline chili but the food and service were fantastic. The entire staff was super friendly even though they weren't waiting on our table. I had the cod...amazing....and my gf had the special..skate... the cocktail menu was interesting and the two drinks we had were mediocre. We will definitely go back."

  • "Amazing how a server can make or break the dining experience. We had the worst. Our evening was a miserable.Terry was arrogant , officious, so obnoxious. Took an hour to place the orders. No bread on the table. Descriptions of food not accurate. Soup too smokey, cloaking flavor. Lobster effoufee just tasted the spice. Special "cod" tiny piece of fish. I asked for potatoes, instead of eggplant. This waiter acted like he was going way out of his way. My dish was mostly potatoes! Short rib appetizer not good. Beet salad and arugula salad excellent. Popcorn sunday always fantastic as well as chocolate dome dessert. That isn't enough to compensate for an evening with a horrible waiter and too many mediocre dishes."

  • "We began our evening with a request to sit out by the River with a drink before our meal. This is why you come to Canoe! Gorgeous riverfront and a great way to relax. Unfortunately, they came for us within 10 minutes so we didn't get to soak in the weather and relax as anticipated. Then, there were empty tables around us the entire evening so there was no need to have missed drinks along the River. The bread service was not brought to our table until our second course arrived and was never returned to us for more. Our soup and salads were excellent, as he food always is. We big had the black cod special and while my husband loved his, I felt mine was undercooked and was disappointed. Will return but not up to normal perfection."

  • "Went to Canoe on a Monday night, the actual date of our 35th anniversary, expecting it to be quiet and half-empty. Actually was a busy night with lots of groups, business meals, etc. And yet, it was a wonderful evening with excellent service and food. We enjoyed specials like the shrimp appetizer, main courses of fluke fish special and marinated Naiman (sp?) pork chop, coconut cheesecake for dessert. Could not have asked for a better night out, as we were made to feel very special. Interesting view after heavy rains, the Chattahoochee River had risen half-way up the lawn. Just a beautiful spot - we need to go there more often!"

  • "We had a group of 6. We have all been to Canoe and historically it has been on our list of favorite restaurants. Service was awful and food just ok. Too many other great options to come back to Canoe."

  • "We have eaten here twice before and even on our third try are still impressed by the attention to detail, flavorful dishes and excellent service. Our glasses were never empty long. The salmon appetizer had a wonderful play of flavors with the capers adding a refreshing back end taste! The duck/beef burger I ordered medium and was prepared correctly. I loved the egg that mingled with the other layers adding a moistness and the pickled cabbage at the final taste of each bite. I cannot provide a fair assessment of the truffle fries as I discovered that truffles are a bit strong for my pallet. The chicken dish was also excellent and so moist! We will definitely be back!"

  • "Amazing restaurant, amazing service, amazing food. The staff went above and beyond to discover that it was our fathers birthday and without anyone saying anything they presented him with Happy Birthday writen on his plate! Nice touch. Hightly recommend"

  • "I was on a serious hunt to find a restaurant to make my 1 year anniversary unforgettable! I could not have asked for a better find. You cannot go wrong with this gem! Canoe made our 1 year anniversary amazing! My hubby had Enchanted Springs Rainbow Trout, Baby Kale, Logan Turnpike Grits. I had Slow Roasted Carolina Rabbit, Swiss Chard – Bacon Ravioli, Sweet Potato, Candied Garlic Sauce. As an appetizer we shared the Canoe’s House Smoked Salmon, Crispy Potato Cake, Vermont Goat’s Cheese. It was absolutely delicious. I am extremely picky with my food, but this was delicious. Not to mention they surprised us with 3 full desserts to help us celebrate our anniversary. AMAZING!!! You can't go wrong with this place. Go and enjoy!!!"

  • "I'm well traveled and I have a seasoned palette for good food. This is well worth it! you'll be pleasantly surprised. Took my best friend 4 her birthday for Sunday Brunch...We r true foodies and couldnt decide what to eat. We wanted everything! Our waitress was so knowledgeable. She suggested turning our brunch into a 3 course meal! Bread basket:sticky buns, Arugala salad, She crab soup lots of crab (comes w/ a mini wine carafe with just enough sherry to make you smile) finished w/ cornmeal pancakes and lavender blueberry syrup, generous portion of applewood bacon, Brioche french toast w/carmelized bananas, pecans & vanilla bean marscarpone cheese.. YUM!! having a attentive waitress w/stellar cust service was the iciing!!"

  • "We went to Canoe for a special occasion. The staff did everything they could to make sure we had a great time. Except for one minor technical flaw in my wife's appetizer the food was amazing. They have some of the best in house baked bread we have ever had. I will certainly go to Canoe again if we get up that way. Thanks for the special memory Canoe!!!"

  • "This was our third visit since moving to Atlanta several years ago. We discovered Canoe with our small dinner club and bring visitors whenever we can get reservations. We had a window table with a great view of the gardens and river. This visit was a little early in the season to enjoy Canoe’s spectacular foliage, but still enjoyed a stroll after dinner. We all had an array of appetizers and Canoe’s specialty breads before our entrée’s were served in the appropriate artistic manner we are accustomed to from Chef Matthew. We also indulged ourselves with a cup of the best coffee and exquisite deserts in Atlanta. Canoe is by far, our favorite of the thirty or so restaurants we’ve had the opportunity of enjoying in the Atlanta area."

  • "Went to Canoe for our 25th Wedding Anniversary and had a great time. The waiter was outstanding as was the food. When we wrapped up with dinner we took our drinks down to the riverbank and sat by The Hooch for a while."

  • "The food is average. Some dishes were lukewarm and not hot as you would expect a freshly cooked dish to be. The special was a fresh and nice textured fish but bland. The dessert was the best course, beautiful presentation and a delicious combination of flavours. When we ordered wine, the waiter suggests another saying we'll like it better. We took the waiter's suggestion. It was not at all good. When we tried to give it back they waiter asked if there was anything wrong with the bottle - we said we did not like the recommended wine - the waiter repeats the question. As if to say if the wine hasn't gone off we shouldnt be giving the bottle back. We insisted and he conceded. This is not the way people should be treated at a restaurant."

  • "The ambiance was very romantic. An ideal place for special occasions. The meal was surprisingly not minuscule as most restaurant of this nature is known to be. They also have an extensive wine list to go along with any starter/entree/desert of your choosing. On top of that the meal portion was deliciously seasoned. I am see myself going back there on another special occasion, but even the overall price of a nights meal here, most likely will not be going back there more than twice a year."

  • "Tasty food but on the whole it definitely felt overrated and the staff are a little too aware of the restaurant's status which is a huge turnoff. The location is beautiful though and that can make for a very pleasant evening. Still, there are many many many other restaurants now in Atlanta that provide a much healthier mix of food and no attitude."
