While not cheap, for a special occasion you will not be disappointed. We were seated right on time at a window table. Our waiter was courteous and knowledgeabe. The food did not disappoint. From the Steak Tartare to the smoked Duck, the nuanced tastes delighted. The restaurant remembered it was my wife's birthday and provided a nice surprise for dessert. The food was exceptionally well executed; the wine list was vast; the seating was especially comfortable; the staff were attentive, friendly, and informative without ever crowding us; and the view was outstanding. However, this dish was fantastic, harmonious, the best carpaccio I've ever had. The cedar gelee took it over the top.
I had a hard time finding a restaurant focusing on Canadian food with Canadian ingredients. Canoe captured this beautifully, in spite of my skepticism about the adjective-heavy menu. Some of the home runs:
- nettle risotto with rhubarb drizzle
- parsnip tart
- wintergreen ice
- birch caramel
Two caramel sauces were presented: one dense-and-gooey as expected, alongside another dark, thin, somewhat scorched--brilliant, like over-caramelization underneath an apple pie, perfectly demonstrating their mastery of the ingredients.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMfantasticI had a exceptional experience. This restaurant was top notch, one of the best dining experiences both my fiance and I have ever had. The food presentation was beautiful and the ribeye steak that my fiance ordered, you almost didnt even need a knife it was so tender. Service was very professional. The place seemed busy, steady with an after work crowd, I would assume business professionals and such.
I felt that our overall experience lacked a personal touch, and that service from our server and the hostess was strictly business. Very "get them in, get them out". Which is fine, just not for us at that time.

Food was excellent in terms of quality, taste and finesse and only negative is the very small portions - the ribeye we ordered was probably less than 5oz and blue char about 4oz only. While I can fully appreciate premium prices for high end restaurants, at $40-50 for a main course, a slightly larger portion would only make a dent in their margins. Same for the desert that could be finished in 2 bites. Each visit we are thrilled and extremely satisfied with our choice to revisit. From the time we arrive at the hostess station, to arriving at our table, receiving the most incredibly beautiful and delicious food - each minute is filled with a relaxed and easy feeling knowing that we will be treated as if we are the only people in the restaurant. We started with the Buffalo Mozzarella which was as stunning to look at as it was to eat. My olive oil poached salmon was one of the best salmon I have ever eaten.
