A word from Cannery Restaurant
Capture a magical moment of Niagara-on-the-Lake’s past as you dine in one of its most historic buildings. The four-diamond Cannery Restaurant of today is reminiscent of its former life as a canning factory in the 1800s, where Niagara peaches and tomatoes were canned until 1957. Its agricultural past has been lovingly retained in its décor of rough hewn wooden beams, rich red brick walls and a hearth at the heart of the restaurant. Chef Mark Longster continues to serve up the best of the region in his menus which feature the freshest local produce and fine wines. Charming and casual Cannery Restaurant is the place to find all your favorites, from succulent steaks to catch of the day to a fabulous Sunday brunch. Chef Longster's food is prepared and presented perfectly, for your ultimate dining experience.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "To be honest, we were not that impressed with the restaurant. It was almost over priced fro the food we had. The pictures on-line show a smaller quaint space and we were surprised at how big the restaurant was. The restaurant also was quite close to being a steakhouse - which it should allude to on the site."

  • "Excellent service and ambiance - the food at best is average - but very high prices - they do a great job recognizing special occasions."

  • "Absolutely every serving was delicious! Try the poached pear Gorgonzola bruschetta to die for! The prawn scallop risotto was a gastronomic delight! The brownie cheesecake finale topped off a perfect evening. All courses were so delicious with very attentive service, we will definitely return on our next trip to the region"

  • "As with most restaurants, several dishes were wonderful, several dishes were just fine, price too high If all the dishes brought to the table were wonderful then the price we paid was worth it, sadly that was not the case. Before we make a more in depth review, we will try it again, on a different night, time of day and different dishes. Then we will make our decision to bring guest here or not. Thank you D."

  • "Overall, our experience was good. Prime rib was excellent. My husband had the surf and turf special and was disappointed in the portion size for the price point. Lobster tail was very small and so was the steak."

  • "My wife and I had dinner to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. The waitress was fun and helpful, the food was delicious, and they gave us a thoughtful "Happy 10th Anniversary" message on our dessert."

  • "Great roast beef! Highly recommend. Bring your appetite - large portions."

  • "I took my mom here for her birthday. The food was amazing. I had the beef wrapped in bacon and she had the cornish hen. The food was fantastic. When you are seated, make sure not to be seated next to the elevator, it was somewhat disruptive and unexpected for an expensive dining experience"

  • "Dinner at the Cannery is truly an amazing experience. Great food, from silky smooth crab cannelloni, to very traditional, but perfectly cooked, prime rib and Yorkshire pudding. Great Niagara wines, and imports too. Very professional and pleasant service. The room itself is also very charming, warm and comfortable. Highly recommended."

  • "A wonderful restaurant worth return visits. Service was efficient. We ordered the crabcakes. It was served hot and did not tast of fillers common to many crabcakes. Delicious. Entrees included marrakech salmon and curry scallops & prawns. Portions were large. Both dishes were served hot as they should be and done just right. The risotto in the scallops and prawns was delicious although a bit salty. It didn't really tasted curry, but the overall impression was a dish "to die for". Highly recommended."

  • "This restaurant is expensive, but not out of line with other restaurants in Niagara on the Lake. Dining was quiet and leisurely when we were there early on a weekday evening. Service was excellent."

  • "Good food, great ambiance. No external signage so unless you know its in the hotel you might get confused trying to find it. But once discovered, its worth it."

  • "Romantic getaway weekend visit to the Niagara-on-the-Lake area! The food was exceptional, but what made it an unforgettable evening was our server, Ashley. Ashley truly made us feel appreciated and had excellent recommendations. Thanks Ashley!"

  • "While the food was well prepared we were disappointed by the lack of veggies with the entrees. Also, we were quite disappointed by the lack of a moderately priced bottle of wine - everything was over $50. Not everyone is a wine expert and it would have been nice to have a choice of a less expensive wine. Otherwise the service was excellent and the ambience quite nice."

  • "The service was absolutely incredible -- the staff are wonderful here. The food only made the experience perfect! Everything on the menu sounded delicious. My husband ordered the "Surf and Turf" that was on special and it was excellent. I ordered the rib eye steak and it was cooked to perfection. The appetizer platter was great. The ONLY downside is the price is quite high & couple that with Canada's OUTRAGEOUS tax of 13.5% and you get the idea!! I would definitely recommend for the food or a special night out."

  • "Wife and I were there for our anniversary. Service impeccable from start to finish. Wife had prime rib and she was thrilled. I had tenderloin, and while small, it was very good. Root veggies awesome. Creme brûlée was one of the best we have had anywhere. We had a Reif Estate Cab and was pleasantly surprised. Next time in Niagara on the Lake, we will return."

  • "It's hard to review the Cannery without talking about the Pillar and Post because it's really part of the experience. The restaurant itself is wonderful with superb food and a great menu, especially if you are a meat lover. Both of us had a meal with variations on beef tenderloin, but each dish was different and excellent in its own right. The sampler platter appetizer (at $22) is a must with awesome crab cakes, amazing shrimp, and a superb baked goat cheese treat. My own peach mille feuille dessert was a fantastic way to wrap up the meal. Highly recommended but as I mentioned, so much of the experience, including the relaxing, romantic setting (including pools, spa, and Niagara-on-the-Lake itself), are part of what makes the Cannery great."

  • "The slow roasted sirloin was amazing, as was the Cornish hen. Our waitress was friendly and engaging, had lots of great wine recommendation for dinner. A very enjoyable meal."

  • "I took my Dad here for brunch on Father's day. There was so much food, we couldn't try it all. Excellent omelets and sausages and smoked salmon. The deserts at buffets are usually terrible, but the deserts here were delicious. (Didn't have much room left for more than a few bites though). It was a little bit pricey, but what you are paying for is excellent service. The entire wait staff treated us like gold. I would go here again (and probably eat the deserts first)."

  • "Very nice and classy restaurant set in the Pillar and Post Inn. More of a historic setting. Usually quiet when we have been there. Staff always friendly and efficient. Also helpful with wine selection. Salads are good. Their prime rib is always excellent, very tasty and almost melt in your mouth texture. Their desserts usually excellent but last visit, their bonoffee cake kind of missed the mark. Still, overall and above average experience. Their prices are not inexpensive, but reasonable. Salads around $12, the prime rib a bit over $30, dessert $10. The 5 oz glass of wine was the largest 5oz I have ever received in a restaurant so they do don't skimp on the portions!"

  • "Classic steakhouse food. The service was great but the decor is tired. My wife had the risotto and scallops, it was OK, but not spectacular, small scallops, tasteless risotto. I had the "feature" menu item, surf and turf. The "turf" was drenched in butter and didn't have the thickness of a file mignon. The lobster tail was chewy. I found the price of $56 for one "feature" menu item exaggerated. As a best practice, I would suggest they mention the price when they describe the "feature". In summary, a decent dining experience, not out of the ordinary and overpriced."

  • "Our reservation was made 40 minutes prior to arriving at 9 pm. We also phoned into the restaurant and confirmed the reservation and told them we were 30 minutes away but would be there at 9 pm. When we arrived the place was busy and when the host told us there were no tables I looked around and said I see at least 10 tables open and lots of wait staff. At that point he said they had actually run out of food due to a local power failure and this was the only restaurant open during the outage. My problem is they had known about this probably before our arrival but allowed us to drive 30 minutes out of our way to be told they had no food. A simple call to our cell would have made me a lot happier then I was."

  • "Cannery is a beautifully decorated dining spot in a country inn with a Tuscan feel. We arrived an hour early for our reservation, but the staff made us feel welcome. Our server, Sharon, was superb. In addition to attentive and thoroughly professional, she was very warm and friendly. The bread is home made. They gave us a great gazpacho amuse bouche. For the meal, we started off with shrimp cocktail and crab cakes (which Sharon split for us). The shrimp are huge and served with a sweeter non-spicy cocktail sauce. The crab cakes are full of crab and are served with a slightly spicy mango sauce. Both were delicious. Prime rib was juicy and butter soft and accompanied with root vegetables and baked potato. The banoffee cake was delectable. "

  • "Excellent.. but for the price it should be. Dinner was very well done. Service was excellent, food was top notch. Brunch was also fine. One thing: my daughter ordered a hot chocolate at brunch. It was less than acceptable. Thin, watery hot chocolate is no way to impress anyone; especially a potential future patron. A restaurant of this caliber should be able to mix cocoa, milk and sugar... and add some whipped cream on top.. no?"

  • "All four of our party enjoyed the food. Three with prime rib and he fourth fish. The plate presentation for each was less than spectacular but more and more kitchens seem to believe that piling the food on a plate is a good presentation. What was lacking is visual presentation was more than compensated for with the service of our waiter - Larry. He did not rush nor interrupt conversation and always responded automatically throughout dinner. "

  • "Hi when we arrived the sign said closed but we asked they said yes if we had a reservation. Ended up the only people for lunch . Waitress was unsure about food and choices . She asked if we would like a refill on diet cokes and then charged 12.00 for the 4 pop on bill , very tacky on 50.00 lunch bill to charge for a refill on fountain drink . Overall the food was very good ! "

  • "From the moment I called to make a reservation and also put a request to have a table by the fire-place and a bottle champagne waiting for me for my wifes birthday, everything was as I had ordered. the staff was great the guy who took the reservation did a great job following up that the table was set to my request. Our waitress was great she would stop by to ask how everything was going but gave us our privacy not stopping by every 5mins, the food was excellent and Cannery restaurant it self was a great place. the food wall excellent. definitely going back to this place on my next occasion. thanks to all the staff"
