Diner Reviews
  • "Canlis is a great dining experience. I took my 25 year old son and his girlfriend and her friend there and they all were so pleased and said it was their best dining experience ever. The staff was great as was the food."

  • "I took my girlfriend to Canlis for her birthday dinner, and it did not disappoint. The food was wonderful, and we were totally stuffed by the end of the meal. The staff was even MORE wonderful. You get what you pay for. I can't afford to go back very often, but it's definitely something worth doing at least once in your life. I also recommend going to the bar for happy hour."

  • "My husband and I went to this restaurant for my 24th birthday because it was a special occasion (and I got to pick the venue). The restaurant staff are all top-notch and it was unlike any other restaurant I've ever been to. Canlis has definitely set the bar very high for all other restaurants to compete with. The food, while beautifully presented left a little to be desired; mostly I was disappointed with their house salad which I was expecting to be made table-side and to also have more "wow" factor when I took that first bite. Everything else I ate was impeccable and I enjoyed the dishes my husband ordered as well. The desserts is where everything came to a grand finale and I finally got the "wow" factor I was looking for."

  • "Canalis is a top notch dining experience. I especially liked the fois gras terrine. Piano is played for ambiance. Extensive wine and beer selection. Well worth the cost."

  • "We celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary here and had a wonderful meal with excellent and attentive service. Our desserts came with candles and a beautiful Happy Anniversary message written on the plate in chocolate. It was a very nice touch and we had a wonderful evening."

  • "When our anniversary date rolled around, we decided to have our celebratory dinner at Canlis. Everything about the evening was spectacular, especially the wait staff. The menu was ample, covering every imaginable taste, and the wine selection was phenomenal! From the moment the valet took our car, to the moment he had our car ready for departure, Canlis was a real treat! The highlight of the meal was a special dessert presentation with "Happy Anniversary" decorating the plate in chocolate script! I have been to Canlis several times over the years, but usually as a member of a group. But this visit was particularly special because of the undivided attention from the wait staff just for my wife and I."

  • "upscale and expensive but well worth the price and close to downtown Seattle"

  • "This was my third time visit to Canlis this year and I have tried different dishes each time. Food is great and the service is always superb. Highly recommended!!"

  • "Excellent food and service - two seniors requested splitting the chief's tasting menu, which was handled with grace - the portions proved to be just right."
    Dined on 7/14/2014
  • "My husband took me here for my birthday and it was definitely a top ten dining experience. The service was top 3, with the most personable and friendly (but not over the top) service - they even shake your hand at the door and call you by name. The views were outstanding and the food excellent. They do a great blend of old school and new flavors - the hamachi appetizer was particularly great as was the filet."

  • "We recently ate at Canlis to celebrate our anniversary during a one night layover on Seattle. Canlis was recommended by a friend and it lived up to his description. The menu is a nice balance of local sourced ingredients (salmon, crab) and the staples steaks,.... The meal was perfectly cooked. The service was world class and without sounding snobby I have eaten at some of the finest from NYC, to California wine country, to Paris and Venice. Seriously kudos to the staff. Highly attentive, friendly yet let us enjoy our meal without feeling crowded by the staff. And finally the view was incredible."

  • "The service was impeccable, food delicious and the staff accommodating! I don't understand how to rate the noise level. I hit the max because in the other cases that was the best. We found the acoustics to be great at Canlis."

  • "I've heard both positive and negative reviews of Canlis. The Chef's Tasting menu, while interesting in many ways, wasn't particularly memorable. Sadly there wasn't anything that we felt was truly incredible and nothing really stood out. The cocktail menu was quite good and the drinks did not disappoint. The wine list was was also good, though we decided not to pair our food with wine this particular evening. The service was simply outstanding and the abidance and view quite nice. In any event, we were in the midst of preparing for a move to Europe and we had to try Canlis before leaving Seattle, but I honestly expect far more for the close to $500 that I spent. I've had far better at half the cost..."

  • "We had really high hopes for this restaurant, we have been wanting to go to 'the best' in Seattle and saved our visit for a special occasion- our 10th Anniversary seemed just the thing. Service was outstanding as expected. Unfortunately the food was not, I could describe everything as nondescript. Nothing was bad necessarily, mostly just didn't have any flavor. Based on the reputation (and price) I expected a lot more. I will cross it off my bucket list, but will not be back."

  • "Canlis offers a great dining experience. They make every table feel as you are the only party in the restaurant. Service is impeccable. Food is outstanding. Even the valet service is memorable. This is truly Seattle's best"

  • "We had a great time at Canlis! We have been to many great restaurants in Europe and the U.S., and Canlis ranks up there with any of them, in my judgment! My wife and I both enjoyed the tasting menu, and they accomodated a preference of ours without any hesitation. The service was overall excellent, but we had to focus on our main server, because he wasn't always clear in what he was saying. If you're ready to be pampered, and to pay the price for being pampered, we can wholeheartedly recommend Canlis. If you're looking for great food values, i.e. to get stuffed for the least amount of money, don't bother."

  • "We had a group of six for a not so happy event...what would have been the 92nd birthday of my father in law who had recently passed away. Canlis was his favorite restaurant and one of his last requests was for us to celebrate his birthday there. Everything was perfect and he would have loved it! The food was superb, the weather was gorgeous from our view table and the service was flawless. At the end of our evening, we decided to make this a yearly event to celebrate his life. Canlis....we will see you next year if not sooner. Thank you for the wonderful night."

  • "If you want to be treated like a king and queen then head to Canlis. Super tasty food and the service is on point. Super tasty food."

  • "Two of us opted for the four-course menu and were struggling to find wines to pair with the variety of dishes. The staff inquired as to our wine budget for the evening, then arranged for several "short pours" to match our first courses and a half bottle with our main. They also paired with the dessert course. The food was beautiful and tasty and was enhanced greatly by the work of the wine team."

  • "We went here for our one year anniversary and I have nothing but positive things to say. As soon as we walked in the first person to greet us was Mark Canlis himself. I had requested a romantic spot and they sat us right by the windows in a secluded spot. Every single staff member was extremely friendly and attentive. The chef here is amazing and all of the food we had was superb. The wine list was excellent. They kept bringing little extras throughout our meal and chocolate to take home. They even personalized our desserts with 'happy anniversary' written onto the plates. I've eaten at comparably priced fine dining restaurants and this one surpasses them all. I highly recommend going!"

  • "Given the reputation of this institution, and the prices, I expected more. The wait staff was plentiful but when it mattered big things were missed, like our waitress forgetting our drink order and then forgetting we ordered a bottle instead of glasses of sparkling wine. She also addressed me by the incorrect name for the second time, same thing last visit. Also, some of the wait staff are so highly coached they come off as stiff, and fake and clearly not really smiling. The service frequently felt contrived, not sincere, and regimented. I expected more warmth and personality from the staff, instead most of them were trying too hard, it felt cold. The food was good but not really worth the $85/person prix fixe price."

  • "The view is amazing and the service is quite good. This is a Seattle institution but we found the menu to be quite safe for a fine dining price tag. Perhaps the most disappointing was the gap between the posted dress code (jacket required) and the attire of guests--jeans and golf shirts in some cases. I'm glad I have dined at Canlis, but I will look elsewhere for fine dining in the future."

  • "The Canlis is lovely, however, I prefer a light meal in the evening and you can only get a big meal. Also, one of the wine parings did not come until the course was almost over, and my coffee did not come until I was finished with desert. My cream brûlée was only ok, I have had much better. But the soufflé was really good."

  • "After 10 years in the Seattle area, and many fine dinning experiences, my wife and I decided to try Canlis for our anniversary and we are sure glad we did. The evening couldn't have been better, from the fantastic views, to the excellent 4 course meal to the impeccable service. Our main courses were the Halibut and the Wagyu beef and both were outstanding. Our server Amanda and everyone on the entire Canlis service team was extremely pleasant and approachable - no stuffy atmosphere here. If you've been concerned that a visit to Canlis could be uncomfortable, you can lay those fears aside and enjoy this unique experience."

  • "Wonderful evening, great food, attentive staff, and a view! Definitely upscale, but without being snobbish, we'll be back for another special occasion. Our selections were artistically and tastefully created, of the first/courses the pea soup was incredibly fresh and the entrees, filet mignon and pan-seared chicken were perfectly prepared, as was the Canlis soufflé which I look forward to enjoying again soon."

  • "Celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary and were delighted with all components of our evening. Lovely table, delicious food and wine and top notch service. Elegant, sophisticated, but not pretentious. Our first visit, but we will return!"

  • "It was our first time and was well worth the wait of 27 years getting there! The food was beautifully prepared, excellent quality, and they had a diversified menu. They were especially sensitive to food allergies and served accordingly. The wine list was extensive and you were treated like royalty. The price tag was a bit pricey but an experience you'll never forget."

  • "The food and service at Canlis are outstanding. I was very happy with the courses that I chose -- which were salad, green pea soup and salmon with spinach, cauliflower and quinoa. Also, the view is incredible and I had a wonderful time there. I would say though, it's an expensive evening and there are other options in Seattle where you can get more for your dining out dollar and still enjoy great food and great service. For a splurge though, Canlis is a great option."

  • "I was in Seattle for a vacation and prior to arriving I had done my research and Canlis was on the top of the list. I must say, it didn't disappoint. To start off, it has the most beautiful view of Lake Union from high on the hill and our table had a direct shot out the windows. We opted for the 4 course meal and between my wife and I, we started with the prawns, tartare, salad and foie gras. All of them were excellent, as were the steaks (Filet and Wagyu Strip). The desserts and cappuccino ended a perfect meal. The service was impeccable! I think every time I took a sip of my water, one of the waitresses was there to refill my glass. Speaking of service, this was probably the best service I've ever had dining out."

  • "Having been years ago on a previous trip to Seattle, I was excited to return Canlis for a small party last Monday. It is hard to believe there could be a more gracious experience in Seattle, or the entire Pac NW. From a personal greeting by Chris Canlis to a well-set table, lovely atmosphere and flawless service, the meal was both expertly cooked and envisioned and professionally presented. The dégustation + 1 custom course of geoduck was superb. The wine service timely and interested in what we envisioned and the bottles were presented expertly. Canlis is a well oiled machine providing the finest dining experience in Seattle. I can't wait to return!"
