  • "We came to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday with some friends. The food was very nice. the salted peppers were outstanding, as were the meatballs (which were browned to perfection) and fried potatoes (great sauce and soft on the inside crispy on the outside). The flatbread was just ok, the dough ended up being very stiff almost like a hard cracker and the shrimp was ok as well. nothing too special, nice sauce though. The desserts were outstanding, chocolate olive oil cake and the ice cream were fabulous, churros were al title too crispy. Our waitress was outstanding. she knew the menu inside and out and rec great wines. lavender lemonade was a nice non alcoh choice!!! the owner came by to say hello and chatted. very engaging. Bravo!"

And inside the nicely designed restaurant continued to please the eye as well as the palate. I enjoyed the huevos rotos, pimentos de piquillo, and most especially the dessert of almond cake. It was my first time during the dine about town schedule and well worth the visit."

  • "We were going to the Sui Generis store right across the street and were glad to find this nice tapas place. food was quite good and the people were all very friendly. atmosphere dark, spanish style decor. we had wine, beer, dessert, came to ~100 dollars for two. we were seated a little too close to the next table. they don't have a full bar."

  • "The wait staff was very attentive, nice and patient with us taking our time deciding what to order. The food was inventive and very tasty. The portions were nice as well. We enjoyed the simplicity of the food and the flavors that were brought out of it, especially the seafood dishes. The cinnamon chocolate ice cream was very intense and a great way to finish off a wonderful meal. My Dad really enjoyed the dining experience. We will be coming back."

The garlic shrimp appetizer was cold by the time it showed up and the paella was not worth the hour plus wait it took to get it (limited flavor and a notable lack of ingredients beyond rice). Not recommended. "

  • "This is reealy great place to enjoy some tapas with friends. The menu is very interesting and not the "cookie cutter" tapas menu that your often find. The food was well presented and prepared but should have been a bit more inspired. In other words there were no surprises. But I have no complaints. We ordered from all over the menu and every single dish was well prepared. the service was friendly but at times a little scatter-brained. The ambience is excellent. It is a bit pricy for tapas, but it is San Francisco. I do recommend that you go."

The video of the nuns dancing projected on the wall was interesting, would have been great if it was the "Sister of Perpetual Indulgence" though. Our server was really good, always abailable. The wonderful Spanish wine selections really give you a chance to explore winds from around Spain's wine regions.Our waiter was fun and very knowledgeable for all the tapas selections and helped us pick the wines. The restaurant was very busy but the noise level was comfortable to have conversations .....very hard to find these days."

Some of the servers are not that knowledgeable about the menu but don't let that stop you. Just go for it. Wines by the glass are the best choice also. The two Spanish selections I had were about $10 and the sherry flight is a treat for the first timer."

  • "When I booked the restaurant originally, I only booked for 2; my boyfriend and I, but quickly our number grew to 4 and then 6. Canela's was really accommodating. Obviously when 6 people are dining together, it is important to agree on tapas and order enough for everyone. Our server was extremely helpful with suggestions and making sure we had enough food but not too much. The food was delicious. We had a great time."

  • "If its lamb, duck, rabbit or chicken every dish arrives with a balance of deep flavors blended perfectly with seasonings and sauce. Attention to every detail really tilts the balance of flavors over the top. Even simple flatbreads are combinations that brighten the pallet and made easy for the table to share. Lamb cooked to perfection so you barely need a knife, fresh seasonal fish prepared tenderly and matched with a deep savory sauce. The owners are on site and come out into the dining room to make sure everything is perfect. The restaurant recently enhance the deco which makes it even more cozy and Spanish fun in look and feel. There is an energy in the room but you are never rushed just pampered so you can enjoy your evening."
