  • "A lovely place to dine. The staff was very attentive, and the atmosphere was quite nice. It seems like the place to go, to have a fun time. The only thing that disappointed me was that the entrée, (I had the clams) was rather sparse of clams. Their was more juice, which was good, than clams. I'm sure I'll be back some time to give Canela another chance."

  • "Invited out to dinner by close friends from the Peninsula, we were asked to pick a restaurant. Knowing that they had never been to Canela we suggested we go there. They loved it and plan to return. The food was great and the server was very patient and helpful. Our friends were impressed and we were pleased that Canela did not let us down once again. Thanks."

Last year I had a dinner reservation for six and family members were more than an hour late (which was pretty rude on their part); they kept the table for us and didn't bat an eye! Fabulous!"

  • "We have been here several times. They have continued to improve the quality and vary the wonderful selections. The wonderful Spanish wine selections really give you a chance to explore winds from around Spain's wine regions.Our waiter was fun and very knowledgeable for all the tapas selections and helped us pick the wines. The restaurant was very busy but the noise level was comfortable to have conversations .....very hard to find these days."

  • "Although the rest of the menu looks interesting stick to the tapas. The variety and quality is first rate. Some of the servers are not that knowledgeable about the menu but don't let that stop you. Just go for it. Wines by the glass are the best choice also. The two Spanish selections I had were about $10 and the sherry flight is a treat for the first timer."

  • "When I booked the restaurant originally, I only booked for 2; my boyfriend and I, but quickly our number grew to 4 and then 6. Canela's was really accommodating. Obviously when 6 people are dining together, it is important to agree on tapas and order enough for everyone. Our server was extremely helpful with suggestions and making sure we had enough food but not too much. The food was delicious. We had a great time."

  • "If its lamb, duck, rabbit or chicken every dish arrives with a balance of deep flavors blended perfectly with seasonings and sauce. Attention to every detail really tilts the balance of flavors over the top. Even simple flatbreads are combinations that brighten the pallet and made easy for the table to share. Lamb cooked to perfection so you barely need a knife, fresh seasonal fish prepared tenderly and matched with a deep savory sauce. The owners are on site and come out into the dining room to make sure everything is perfect. The restaurant recently enhance the deco which makes it even more cozy and Spanish fun in look and feel. There is an energy in the room but you are never rushed just pampered so you can enjoy your evening."

They were doing a fixed menu for the day so the food we got was not exactly what I would have ordered but still fairly good. Often time romantic restaurants with 2 person tables tend to pack them too close together, this was not the case at Canela."

Couldn't waste those amazing flavors. We saved room for dessert and we were not disappointed with the churros, bread pudding and rice pudding. It was a perfect meal."

  • "Food was excellent and since it was a quiet Tuesday night after New Year's, we had the back of the restaurant almost exclusively to ourselves. The staff was friendly and very eager to please. Everything was enjoyable! The spanish tortilla continues to be one of my favorites. The deserts are also quite nice, so save room. It was all very reasonable, about $50 a person which included 2 pitchers of Sangria (also delicious). The only thing I could pick on is that the service slowed down at the end when it came to bringing the check and then settling the bill. If that could be fixed, it would probably lean toward the outstanding rating."

  • "My girlfriend and I came here to celebrate with a New Year's Eve dinner in one of our favorite neighborhoods. We had never tried Canela before, but the menu looked too good to miss. We arrived at the time of our reservation and were promptly seated on the "second floor." In all honesty, we were not expecting the prix fixe as our only option of the evening. However, once our server enthusiastically gave us our glasses of Cava, we were in. All eight courses (from the eel served on a potato pancake, to the stuffed piquilo pepper, to the dessert of olive oil cake and nougat ice cream) were perfectly portioned and promptly served with a smile. We will definitely be back to sample their regular menu. Don't you dare pass this place up!"

I could drink a glass of the sauce for the garlicky prawns and we always must have the croquettes. Very good and friendly service, lovely surroundings and nice wines. Each dish was spectacular, from the sausage stuffed piquillo peppers to the roasted cauliflower to the squid ink risotto. The restaurant has a lovely, warm interior that was just perfect for a late night supper after a theater performance. I am definitely coming back."

  • "The restaurant is well designed and pleasant. The food is consistent and delicious. We have been several times in the past 6 months and will be back often. However, it would be nice if the service were better. It is usually very slow. For instance, there should never be an excuse for a restaurant to have slow service on basics such as bread, or wine & beverages. Also, being a tapas restaurant it should be easy to get the staff's attention to order additional dishes, but it is not. In short, we find Canela Bistro to be a great neighborhood restaurant but with not so great service."

However, it turned out to be an enjoyable dining experience - the service was friendly and attentive; food was delicious; and ambience / décor was romantic and intimate.
