A word from Candicci's Restaurant & Bar
To the “Big Hill” in the heart of West County!

We at CANDICCI’S are proud to serve you fine Italian cuisine - pasta, veal, seafood, chicken and beef dishes - made from only the freshest ingredients.

When I first opened CANDICCI’S in 1980, I took as my model the wonderful neighborhood ristorantes that populate New York’s famous “Little Italy” section. I wanted to recreate that special intimate ambience - a blend of attentive, friendly service, casual atmosphere and classic Italian cooking.

Four of us had dinner at Candicci's a few evening ago. While none of us had any complaints, the food was just average. It didn't compare to the Italian restaurants in Clayton or the Hill. We had chicken, fish, & veal. Alll off them were fine. The service was good and the place appeared clean.

My friend and I had planned on having a quiet dinner to catch up. Earlier, I recieved a phone call to verify my reservation. What I was not informed was that a party was taking place in the back room, complete with a live band. Because there were no doors to shut out the music, the music was extremely loud in the dining room. We had difficulty carrying on a conversation, ate quickly and left. It was a great time for those in the private party, but not so fun for the patrons in the main dining room. Poor planning on the management, I think.

Was looking for a family friendly restaurant to visit with out of town guests and my elderly mother (who wears hearing aids). The restaurant didn't have our Open Table reservation because the woman who works in the office wasn't working that night. We were seated after a short wait, ordered drinks, then the evening entertainment started - two talented singers, singing to pre-recorded music - and it was LOUD. No longer could we have a decent conversation. Anything that needed to be said had to be shouted. Really unpleasant. After about 20-minutes, our waiter came back to take our order. When the food came out, five adult entrees came out, and my son's meal was no where to be seen. It came out about 5-minutes later. Decent food. Bad ambiance.

Despite a 45 minute wait beyond our reservation time and sub-par service, my husband and I were pleased with our evening at Candicci's. Our waiter did not seem up to par with the rest of the restaurant experience -- he rushed us, brought the wrong dish to my husband so I was nearly finished by the time he got his food (and later admitted he didn't even know the special menu), made it seem like the dessert tray being put away was our fault for eating so late, did not check with us before substituting a dessert we ordered that was no longer available. We really liked the restaurant's ambience and were ready for an enjoyable evening -- which we had. Just wish the service had been a bit better. I'd still return, just hope for a better waiter!

We thought we had a reservation on Valentines day for 7:45 pm, at least that is what was confirmed. When we arrived at the restaurant at 7:30, there were at least 20 people ahead of us in line, that had reservations too, and another 30-40 people just waiting around that had reservations too. It makes no sense to give someone a reservation and you can't keep it. By the time we got to the front of the line to speak with the hostess, it was 7:55 and we had at least 60 people in front of us. That's just ridiculous. It's ok to say you don't take reservations and it's first come first served, but to have people think that they will be seated in a reasonable time is unacceptable. Lesson learned.I will never set foot in that restaurant again.

My wife and I made Valentine's reservations at 7:30PM. We arrived promptly at 7:30 to find a line at the front desk.By 8:00 PM we were still 13th on the list. We decided that we would risk getting in somewhere else and notified the front desk. Reaction? "Sorry" form the young lady at the desk and not a word from what I would guess was the manager if he was not the owner (a big, big Italian looking man). No effort at all to recover form spoiling a Valentines dinner. This place is so poorly managed I cannot imagine ever trying to dine there, and certainly will go out of my way to discourage others. There are plenty of well managed excellent Italian restaurants in the area.

I am always impressed with the food at Candicci's! I tend to order the same thing every time, but my boyfriend tends to try something new and always ends up pleased with his selection. 1. Did not offer/ask if we would like anything to drink, only given water. 2. Did not offer/ask if we would like an appetizer (we always get one, not this time). 3. Entree ordered without mushrooms, arrived with mushrooms and server watched as I picked them from my food without saying a word. 4. Check brought in the middle of our meal...we were celebrating a birthday, wanted to order dessert; however felt like we were being told to hurry and pay (we even had a birthday coupon and still no offer of dessert!)

Mother's Day Brunch was very expensive. Food was pretty good. We made reservations but still had to wait on a table then they sat us at a table for 4 even though we had 5 in our reservation party. Very cramped and uncomfortable. Not what we had hoped for. Waiter told us to "wait for the line at the buffet to go down a bit then we could head on up". Line never really went down so we finally just got in it. Considering we drove an hour, would not do that again.

I am a regular here and I am never disappointed at all! The food is amazing, it is so nice to have such an amazing Italian restaurant so close to home. The atmosphere during the weekend is great, they have live music and dim lighting......perfect for a date or a quiet night out. Not really the type of place to bring your kids, I think it is more of an adult type of atmosphere. Pricing is very fair for the amount of food you get, I always end up with a 2nd meals worth of leftovers! I always get the Chicken Cordon Bob for my entree and the toasted ravioli or garlic cheese bread for an appetizer is amazing!

We have experienced some good meals at Candicci's however, this night was so bad words can hardly express our experience. Basically service was so bad our waiter quit mid-meal! His attitude was horrible, and what should have been a forty-five minute meal turned in to a two hour ordeal. Our food was fair, but the temperature of my food was uneven. Hopefully the issue of service will be solved soon.

Candiccis was a pleasant restaurant find. Set near a major road, Candiccis served us a good meal in pleasant surroundings. The Pasta Limonata was light, yet flavorful, with a healthy serving of chicken and garlic. The Pasta Tutto Mare was rich and creamy with plenty of seafood. The dinner salads, with the Italian house dressing, started off the meal well. Dinner came with warm, soft bread and a tangy garlic oil for dipping. The serving staff was attentive without hovering.

This was our second time at Candicci's. The first time was perfect, live music not too loud, restaurant not too crowded, and food was delicious. This time, the food was good, the live music was too loud to easily convse with my husband, and it was crowded so the noise level was even worse with everyone speaking over the level of the music. We will go again, but, this time, I will request a table in the front room, away from the music. The musician was wonderful, thou! He was a big part of why we wanted to go back!

Went here a few weeks ago and had wonderful veal - fork tender, though my husband's shrimp and scallops were a bit dried out. This time we both had the veal expecting it to be the same. But it was overcooked and tough. The waiter did bring a small plate of additional cutlets that were slightly less overcooked, but still not tender. Too bad. We thought we had found a real gem. Guess I just got lucky the first time.
