A nice place where I met some friends for brunch on the weekend. Service was very good and food was too for a reasonable price! The atmosphere was quiet on Sunday and it was enjoyable to sit and have a conversation with friends! Looks like it can be busy based on the size of the place. Have a variety of Margaritas to try. I would visit again!!

We were visiting with our kids (12 and 9) for a long weekend. Found Cancun on Yelp and decided to give it a shot. Food was really, really good and prices were reasonable, especially for NYC. The Queso dip and the Steak Cancun were particularly tasty.

Service was excellent and the food was very good. It wasn't too pricey (by Manhattan standards). We chose Cancun because it was near the Broadway theater district and we were on our way to see a play. I would recommend Cancun to anyone who has a hankering for Mexican food.

Service was awful! I think they may have noticed us if we had walked our without paying. Took them a long time to bring drinks and take an order. Place wasn't full so no excuse of being too busy. Margaritas were OK, not great. Food was fine, nothing spectacular. Will not dine there again.

Three of us dined here pre-theatre. The food was excellent. Although the staff was friendly and willing, the service was very slow. Several times we had to ask for our order. The margaritas were the best! (I had 2 of them, on the rocks and without salt.). It is an after-work hangout during happy hour; it was a bit too noisy for my taste, but the atmosphere was fun and lively.

I read mixed reviews and the Cinco de Mayo crowd wasn't the most appealing. Drinks took longer than expected due to Cinco but everything else was better than expected. The Queso was not the usual Velvetta but molten tasty fresco and the Quesidilla did not have the sometime cat food filling but lovely chunks of dark meat. The food was rustic and yummy. I would go again!

Fun atmosphere. Never actually got seated despite having a reservation. My party got there and were told that there would be an additional 2 hour wait - then we were asked if we would actually would like to wait....in the words of Jerry Seinfeld - "You see, you know how to *take* the reservation, you just don't know how to *hold* the reservation. And that's really the most important part of the reservation: the holding. Anybody can just take them."

I went on cinco de mayo and it was crazy busy with most ppl at the bar. We had a table reservation and was promptly seated but had to wait for 30-45mins before we could find someone to flag down to take our drinks order another 30-45mins to find someone else to take our food order. I'm sure this was just unique to the cinco de mayo crowd. I had a chimichanga and rice and beans and ate less than half because it just wasn't good to me. My sangria was awesome and so was the chips and salsa.

  • Ridiculous!
    OpenTable Diner Since 2007VIP
    Dined on 4/12/2014
Not at all what we had expected. Reviews claimed the food was traditional. Chili's is more traditional in some ways. The music was ridiculously loud, for no apparent reason. Everyone was obligated to scream. When we entered, the host didn't even acknowledge us and told us to wait, he was busy. Never asked for our name, etc. Food and drinks came quickly, but we asked for coffee and waited over a half an hour, with the blasting music, for coffee. We finally told them to forget it and being us the check. Coffee was brought, about 10 minutes later and was completely not drinkable. It then took 15 minutes to get a check. We were ready to leave and simply put down whatever cash we had. It was a very unpleasant experience.

Cancan was close by the Studio 54 theater which prompted our choice. As soon as we walked in, we knew we had a winner. The place is LOUD but in a really festive way. Drinks were great and not overpriced. Service was very pleasant but not really attentive and the kitchen was a little slow so Plan for a little extra time if you have a show to make. The food made up for any little. lapses. Really great guacamole (although I'm not sure it was fresh-made, excellent enchilada suizas, shrimp with green sauce and chicken mole. Really the best Tex-Mex we've had outside of Texas. Will definitely be back.

I went to Cancun for an early dinner before a show at Carnegie hall - it was pretty mediocre mexican food, and pricey for what seemed to be premade entrees and aps. The guac tasted packaged, and for $15, I expected something better. Drinks were good, but I wouldn't go here for food again; for the prices, it wasn't worth it.

The food and drinks good; however, they pushed chips and salsa and guac on us before we had a chance to pick out any appetizer. When we asked for a dessert menu, it took over 10 minutes to get one, and 10 minutes later when we placed our order they decided to tell us that they only had 3/6 items listed.

My search to replace my favorite Mexican place that closed a few years ago is over. CanCun is on par with any of the pricey "chain" restaurants in town (if not better). You don't go here for luxurious/quiet/stuffy ambiance but rather excellent food and service at very reasonable prices. They get the basics like chips and guacamole right and the Bolados Especial recommended by Jessica was terrific. If you have room for dessert, go for the Mexican Banana. Speaking of Jessica, she was great and I hope she is there the next time I go. Seemed to be running the show with a good sense of humor and knowledge of the menu. There was a lively bar crowd at 8 on Friday. It was noisy but I didn't mind given the quality of the food/service.

This is the best Mexican place I have found in the tri-state area, and I have tried a bunch being from the West Coast. They are consistently good every time we go there, are never crowded, and have friendly, attentive service, including fixing some excellent chicken tenders and French fries for the picky child in the family. Terrific place that we go back to again and again - especially good salsa and guacamole, but you really can't go wrong. I highly recommend this place for a great, affordable night out with some really excellent Mexican cuisine.

Still searching for decent Tex-Mex in NYC, but still haven't found it. The menu here looked promising, but the food was only fair. The enchiladas were bland with little to no seasoning. Same for the rice and beans. The Chips were good and the Guacamole was decent, but not nearly as good as they serve at Chipolte. The hot sauce was anything but hot. Best bet is the margheritas. Very nice and attentive servers and the space is well decorated and not crowded like not Mexican restaurants.
