A word from Canaletto Ristorante Veneto
Canaletto Ristorant Veneto features authentic Italian food made from scratch inspired by the region of Veneto. Breads from the Il Fornaio bakery along with Il Fornaio extra-virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar begin each meal. Seafood, rotisserie and grilled meats, poultry and game are our specialties. Sliced-at-the-moment salami and fresh oysters from the “Mercato”. Risotto made the traditional Italian way. Housemade and imported pastas, pizzas from an oak wood-burning oven, fresh salads and soups, seasonal antipasti and a wide variety of desserts offer guests a wide selection of foods suitable for any dining occasion.
Our full bar features a selection of Italian and domestic wines, with an emphasis on wines from the “Tre Venezia” area of Italy (Veneto, Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Trentino-Alto Adige). Extensive prosecco list as well as many grappa, spirits and after dinner drink selections.

Diner Reviews
  • "Everything was very nice. The waitress who was very good and knowledgable selected a nice Pinot noir for me to go with the cheese board and calamari we ordered. Everything was perfectly paired. We also had the veal and the pear ravioli. Everything was delicious and perfectly served still hot with all requested accompaniments. Very happy experience! Also appreciated the valet parking!"

  • "We went to Canaletto Ristorante Veneto to celebrate our 40th Anniversary and told the hostess that it was for our 40th Anniversary. The restaurant never acknowledged our anniversary in word or deed. I ordered a medley of fish & one of the largest pieces was the salmon. When I cut into it, the inside was entirely raw. I ate everything else & left the salmon because I can't eat raw fish. When we finally could get a waiter, I told him about the Salmon. He never said he'd get me another piece or offered to credit me with a portion of the meal that I couldn't eat. All he asked was if I was done so he could take the plate. The restaurant is beautiful but the food and the service didn't live up to it."

  • "We had dinner on a Saturday night while vacationing in California. We were seated right away at our reserved time which was important to me. The service and food were both very good. Our waiter was courteous and efficient. The only negative I have is that it was very noisy while we ate. Some people like that, but for someone like me with a hearing problem it made dinner conversation a bit rough. If I had it to do again, I might have preferred trying it at a less busy time."

  • "An exceptionally well run restaurant! My husband & I took a friend who had never before dined there. She declared her food "amazing". The manager came by to welcome us & made us feel that he really cared about our experience there. One tiny flaw..........our waiter. He kept pushing us to order drinks before our guest arrived. He never smiled. He brought our entree before we finished our salad. It was clear he wanted us to hurry up, finish our food so he could turn the table. We would certainly recommend Canaletto to friends but to ask for a friendly waiter. The rest of the staff were indeed friendly, competent & attentive. I ordered pasta with sausage & porchini..........It was superb!"

  • "We were enjoying a very nice meal out in the patio until a large party of 18 mostly children came in. The staff made a lot of noise moving the tables around to accommodate the large party. We finished dinner and left. Wanted dessert but way to noisy to even hear yourself talk. To bad, it's a lovely resteraunt and great food."

  • "We have been eating at Canaletto for years and for the first time we have had a less than excellent experience. My wife ordered Gnocchi and it was over cooked to the point of being mushy. This was during there Foods of Sicily promotion. I guess they took their eye off of the ball on the regular entrees."

  • "The restaurant was super noisy because there was an event in the bar area and outside patio. We had to shout at each other across the table to hear one another. The salmon dinner and caprese salad was average. The wine was average. I wouldn't go to this restaurant unless I'm in the mood for a quick pizza and salad in the bar area."

  • "This place is always great. The service is almost always spectacular. They'll accommodate any food changes and everything tastes delicious. You cannot go wrong if you are looking for a higher end Italian restaurant. If you are looking for giant meatballs and cream sauce Buca Di Peppo and Olive Garden are more up your alley."

  • "Service was good, food was pretty good (bread seemed stale and salad just ok). Main course was good. Did not like the tiny table we sat at that was in between two other tables. It offered us no privacy and we could hear the conversations on either side of us."

  • "A++. The vegetable soup was homemade! The branzino was fabulous and Salmon were outstanding. Our server coul not have been better. The tomatoes on the caprese salad though, were tough and tasteless. They should have used aireloom tomatoes. Overall, we enjoyed and will return!"

  • "Good food, good service but this place is pretty much identical to Il Fornaio. Nothing special, just good."

  • "I ordered a grilled Chicken Cesar. The chicken was too salty and the lettuce was all yellow and white; no green at all. "

  • "The food was good but it was expensive for what we ordered for lunch. It was not memorable. "

  • "Canaletto is a great place for a celebration! It's got great ambiance and is lively, although not noisy. You start with the best bread you will ever eat, and it only gets better from there. The servers are always friendly and knowledgable, and aim to please. The food is quite good, with their pizza being a must-try to split as a starter. Everything else was really good, but save room for dessert. The cart is overflowing with delicious choices. "

  • "We had a great Mother's Day brunch there. I would go back."

  • "The frittata was very tasteless but the canneloni and desserts were delicious."

  • "I usually love this restaurant, but Mother's Day was terrible. The waiter was way in over his head. A drink was spilled and nobody came to help until we literally got up and tracked down a bus boy. The waiter had no clue what was going on at our table even though right at the table beside us. We have come here on Thanksgiving and the service and food were better. So, I guess Mother's Day is not the day to try Caneletto's."

  • "Always one of the best pizzas in OC. My grandkids love Canaletto's pizza and the multi grain rolls our scrumptious. We appreciate their friendly staff and TLC care. "

  • "We tried several dishes--the best (following our servers advice) was a three course chef"s special menu. Excellent salads-a delicious (small) meat pasta dish and finally a mixed seafood grill--fresh scampi, scallops, squid, salmon and sole--all well prepared and presented. There were five in our party and although the restaurant was busy our reservation was acknowledged and we were seated promptly. "

  • "Four of us ate our delicious meal from listings from the Festa Regionale menu. The seafood was very fresh and tasty, and the rack of lamb was very good, tender and cooked perfectly medium rare. Each month we enjoy the various menu items with wine pairing from different parts of Italy. My dad was born in Italy, and I was raised on homemade Italian food. So if we want excellent Italian meal, we go to Canaletto and have always had a great Italian experience! "

  • "I had a great evening with friends here. The open feeling of the main dining hall, outstanding servers, and excellent menu and wines helped. Their passport (prix fixe) menus that explore different regions of Italy are so much fun. I had a menu typical of Puglia and found it authentic, which brought back great memories."

  • "We recently visited with our two daughters (13 and 9 yr old). We made reservations and we were seated promptly, once we arrived. The hostess was pleasant and greeted us with a smile. We were quickly greeted by our server, once we were seated. He was fantastic! He was professional, helpful, and always smiling. He made some wonderful recommendations on the fish {my husband enjoyed the Bransene (spelling?), and I loved the seafood stew]. One of my daughters, ordered a pasta with porcini and crimini mushrooms that she devoured. My younger daughter's pizza was delicious. You won't go wrong with any of the dessert choices- definitely can be shared. The presentation of the food was great. Highly recommended."

  • "They are busy on Friday evening's and we set in a side room which did not really have an ambiance. Food was also okay== I had the seafood risotto and fish did not seem fresh and risotto was over cooked."

  • "We had such an enjoyable Birthday Lunch celebration last Friday. Our server remembered us to the day when Tutumare was at the location where Canaletto is now. Loved the raw pizza dough that my grandkids got to play with. What a great idea. Thanks to our outstanding server and a very efficient staff. They all helped to make it a very special day."

  • "The food was enjoyable and the service was impeccable. We had an 8:45 pm reservation and were sat right away which is always a plus. The noise level was pretty high but not overwhelming. We will be going back.m"

  • "We picked this restaurant since it was half-way between our towns, and it had good ratings. We had a corner table where the noise level was not a serious problem for conversation. Three of us had the ravioli which two of us enjoyed and one thought it was a bit dry. Desserts were our main interest, and the canollis, apple crepes, and Zabaglione were all delicious. Our waitress was delightful and energetic. We had a great time and did not feel rushed though the restaurant was very busy."

  • "Enjoyed lunch here during restaurant week. A great value, excellent service and wonderful food. We enjoyed the salmon and a featured pasta dish, both excellent! I'd been to the var before for Happy Hour, always busy with a high energy level. And lunch in the dining room was quite enjoyable too!"

  • "Canaletto is a favorite! Every dish is superb from the freshly baked bread to the desserts. The hospitality is warm and the waiters are attentive. The menu offers variety and there are special regional Italian menus that change every three weeks or so. The wine selections are delightful. It can be a bit noisy but I asked for a quiet table and got it last night. The bar is popular and there are outside tables for smokers. Try it and you'll like it."

  • "We went to dinner at this restaurant on Fat Tuesday and enjoyed the great food, balloon man Thomas, stilt lady Adele, and the party atmosphere. We had the "Festa Regionale" passport pre-fix dinner. The main course, lamb shank, was delicious, moist, and flavorful. We visit this restaurant at lunch , as well as dinner, and have always enjoyed the various Italian menu items. Pizzas are always good and popular. The servers are very attentive. The red house wine "Chianti" has good flavors to go with your meal."

  • "Tables are a little close together so when server was talking with the diners at the next table his rear end was a tad close to our table. A little more space between tables or some consideration of diners not at his station would have been nice. Food was good but I remember that it use to be better. Service seemed a bit off their game for smaller parties. They were more interested in big groups. Would go again with a friend for lunch but wouldn't go for a special occasion."

  • "We had the Aperol Spritz as a drink and enjoyed it. They have large portions considering it was a restaurant week prix fixe menu. The dishes taste a little different from how they taste in the Veneto, but it was all very good. We dined during the Carnivale celebration, but I personally did not think the painted faces, neon wigs and masks enhanced my dining experience. Tables are pretty close together by the way. Will probably return."
