A word from Canaletto Ristorante Veneto
Canaletto Ristorant Veneto features authentic Italian food made from scratch inspired by the region of Veneto. Breads from the Il Fornaio bakery along with Il Fornaio extra-virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar begin each meal. Seafood, rotisserie and grilled meats, poultry and game are our specialties. Sliced-at-the-moment salami and fresh oysters from the “Mercato”. Risotto made the traditional Italian way. Housemade and imported pastas, pizzas from an oak wood-burning oven, fresh salads and soups, seasonal antipasti and a wide variety of desserts offer guests a wide selection of foods suitable for any dining occasion.
Our full bar features a selection of Italian and domestic wines, with an emphasis on wines from the “Tre Venezia” area of Italy (Veneto, Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Trentino-Alto Adige). Extensive prosecco list as well as many grappa, spirits and after dinner drink selections.

Diner Reviews
  • "I had a great evening with friends here. The open feeling of the main dining hall, outstanding servers, and excellent menu and wines helped. Their passport (prix fixe) menus that explore different regions of Italy are so much fun. I had a menu typical of Puglia and found it authentic, which brought back great memories."

  • "We recently visited with our two daughters (13 and 9 yr old). We made reservations and we were seated promptly, once we arrived. The hostess was pleasant and greeted us with a smile. We were quickly greeted by our server, once we were seated. He was fantastic! He was professional, helpful, and always smiling. He made some wonderful recommendations on the fish {my husband enjoyed the Bransene (spelling?), and I loved the seafood stew]. One of my daughters, ordered a pasta with porcini and crimini mushrooms that she devoured. My younger daughter's pizza was delicious. You won't go wrong with any of the dessert choices- definitely can be shared. The presentation of the food was great. Highly recommended."

  • "They are busy on Friday evening's and we set in a side room which did not really have an ambiance. Food was also okay== I had the seafood risotto and fish did not seem fresh and risotto was over cooked."

  • "We had such an enjoyable Birthday Lunch celebration last Friday. Our server remembered us to the day when Tutumare was at the location where Canaletto is now. Loved the raw pizza dough that my grandkids got to play with. What a great idea. Thanks to our outstanding server and a very efficient staff. They all helped to make it a very special day."

  • "The food was enjoyable and the service was impeccable. We had an 8:45 pm reservation and were sat right away which is always a plus. The noise level was pretty high but not overwhelming. We will be going back.m"

  • "We picked this restaurant since it was half-way between our towns, and it had good ratings. We had a corner table where the noise level was not a serious problem for conversation. Three of us had the ravioli which two of us enjoyed and one thought it was a bit dry. Desserts were our main interest, and the canollis, apple crepes, and Zabaglione were all delicious. Our waitress was delightful and energetic. We had a great time and did not feel rushed though the restaurant was very busy."

  • "Enjoyed lunch here during restaurant week. A great value, excellent service and wonderful food. We enjoyed the salmon and a featured pasta dish, both excellent! I'd been to the var before for Happy Hour, always busy with a high energy level. And lunch in the dining room was quite enjoyable too!"

  • "Canaletto is a favorite! Every dish is superb from the freshly baked bread to the desserts. The hospitality is warm and the waiters are attentive. The menu offers variety and there are special regional Italian menus that change every three weeks or so. The wine selections are delightful. It can be a bit noisy but I asked for a quiet table and got it last night. The bar is popular and there are outside tables for smokers. Try it and you'll like it."

  • "We went to dinner at this restaurant on Fat Tuesday and enjoyed the great food, balloon man Thomas, stilt lady Adele, and the party atmosphere. We had the "Festa Regionale" passport pre-fix dinner. The main course, lamb shank, was delicious, moist, and flavorful. We visit this restaurant at lunch , as well as dinner, and have always enjoyed the various Italian menu items. Pizzas are always good and popular. The servers are very attentive. The red house wine "Chianti" has good flavors to go with your meal."

  • "Tables are a little close together so when server was talking with the diners at the next table his rear end was a tad close to our table. A little more space between tables or some consideration of diners not at his station would have been nice. Food was good but I remember that it use to be better. Service seemed a bit off their game for smaller parties. They were more interested in big groups. Would go again with a friend for lunch but wouldn't go for a special occasion."

  • "We had the Aperol Spritz as a drink and enjoyed it. They have large portions considering it was a restaurant week prix fixe menu. The dishes taste a little different from how they taste in the Veneto, but it was all very good. We dined during the Carnivale celebration, but I personally did not think the painted faces, neon wigs and masks enhanced my dining experience. Tables are pretty close together by the way. Will probably return."

  • "I've eaten at the Las Vegas location within the Venetian prior to this experience so I was familiar but enjoyed this location my much more. We were there for OC restaurant week and the pre-selected menu lovely with adequate choices. Food was sharpe eh as was the service."

  • "We went for restaurant week and we were pleasantly surprised on how many great choices they had. We each had something different and they were all wonderful. I had the short ribs, which just fell off the bone and melted in your mouth. And our friend had the Pasta with homemade sausage. My husband had the Risotto Sant'Erasmo, with shrimp, crab and baby artichokes. It was amazing. He also had the Antipasti of Sardee in Saor, fried sardines marinated with sweet and sour onions. Even those of us who do not eat fish had to agree that it was tasty. And since our friend was dining with us we got to try all three deserts. Hands down the best was the Sofflato Al Cioccolato, Almond chocolate cake served warm with caramel sea salt."

  • "noise level very high difficult to hear across a small table.. food was fair, acceptable, but not worth the price.. food lacked defining spices and flair..sorry Canaletto, just not up to how good Italian food could be.. desert was Tiramisu,, where was the rum soak? for a dinner costing $130, it should have been better food and service, especially the busser/backwaiter."

  • "Was seated at 5:45 pm on Valentines Day at a small corner table in a half empty dining room....not exactly romantic. Other than that bit of thoughtlessness, two thumbs up on the rest...service and food."

  • "One of our very favorite restaurants. We recently celebrated o weddng anniversary there Impeccable warm friendly service. Every time they have a a' regional menu, It becomes my choice. It is like having a special geography lesson, each time BRAVO Caneletto!"

  • "This was our first time at Canaletto Ristorante Veneto. We were there Saturday evening for a belated Valentine's dinner. We are regulars at Il Fornio Irvine. We really liked the ambiance and the food was excellent, starting with the bread, martinis, salad and entree. The wait staff was exceptional. Will definitely return."

  • "Typical Newport Beach snooty. Sometimes this is offset by an exceptional dining experience but not in this case. All was "good" just not special in any way."

  • "We've been to Canaletto several times and enjoyed it, including their Thanksgiving dinner, which we enjoyed very much. This most recent dinner was our least favorite visit. We made the reservation well in advance but we're seated in an area more like a patio area, which was not good. We would have to wait for a table to open up in the main dining area but didn't want to wait...which I would do next time. The food is consistently good (not great) and the ambiance / energy of the main dining area is good. The service is good but very scripted. The wine and bar list is ok but limited. I will continue to go to Canaletto but make sure I stick with the main dining and bar areas."

  • "All three of our party had vastly different appetizers and entrees. Everything was excellent. Our Jordan Chardonnay was also great and our server was truly a pro. As in most restaurants these days, the busboy tried to remove plates before all diners were finished. Where and when was this ok'd by Emily Post? Let's go back to proper etiquette people!"

  • "It was so loud that it was difficult hearing my table mate. Energetic is one thing but this place was way loud! I can't imagine what the main room was like because the hostess told me that it would be quieter where she sat us. Of course what made the whole dinner was the good company I had which made up for alot due to the service being a little irratic and slow. Had Branzino baked in Salt which was good, but the server missed alot of small bones which almost freaked out my friend due to a previous issue she had a another restaurant with fish bones getting stuck in her throat. Also had pasta that had a good taste, but also had either uncooked pasta or dried out cooked pasta within the dish."

  • "Canaletto has been consistently good for lunch or dinner over the years since its opening. The service is great and the food superb. The prices are also very reasonable. We have come to treat this as our "go to Italian restaurant" when we want to be sure to be pleased."

  • "I had not been here in several years and was enticed by its inclusion in Newport restaurant week. The food and service were impeccable (and my dining partner is Italian and quite picky about Italian food - especially ravioli. which she was impressed with."

  • "When we first step in the restaurant, the ambiance gave us this vibe that it's a good place for adults to have a fine dining and wining experience. Alas, once inside, a little boy almost ran into us, and the table next to us have a few small kids as well. The restaurant itself does not give out this vibe that it is a family-dining place, and most reviews online are about the happy hour. Needless to say, we were shocked."
