We went for dinner on a Saturday. There's painfully loud live music, much too loud for a restaurant. Food was quite good. We liked both appetizers: Bacalaítos and Camarone’s “Enchilados” (sauted shrimp with black beans). The whole snapper was excellent. The side of twice fried plantain was disappointing; the garlic sauce that came with it had the synthetic flavor I associate with store-bought crushed garlic. Rioja by the glass is very nice. And the bread pudding was quite good. I liked the fact that it wasn't too sweet. Service was very disappointing. It's possible they were short-staffed that night. I had to ask three times before I got the hot sauce I had requested; and there wasn't even an apology. Our bill was misttalled.

Cana SF is a wonderful place to get together with friends and spend the evening. Great cuban food (although I'd like even more street food variety) with amazingly tasty regional drinks. The whole fish for 2 is always a favorite as are the empanadas and the yucca fries. If you come on a night when there is music, it's a plus, but hard to have an intimate conversation.

Cana has a great "vibe" when the music is playing. The musicians made the experience memorable and they didn't even have a tip jar. They just had an infectious sense of enjoyment which everyone felt. My wife, who lived in Miami a long time, and knows Cuban food, absolutely loved the food. She had the Ropa Vieja and I had a casserole called Pan Diplomatico. Both excellente. Specialty drinks were $10 to $12 which we think is a bit pricey. The Sangria was $10 for a large glass- very tasty and vibrant color with lots of fruit in it. We had a group on but we'll be back without the group on. Nice find and a friendly place. Nothing fancy as to decor but highly enjoyable evening.

When we asked for the wine list, a charming wine vendor came and offered a "special deal" on a $26 bottle wine that would have been about $6 at TJ's. We never got a wine list. We were excited to have tapas in this "little gem" in our neighborhood, but won't be back. We ordered the special, which comprised 3 large and severely overcooked shrimp, 5 overcooked mussels (one of us wouldn't eat either), and a small portion of flank steak, which was ok. When the bill came, we were surprised to learn that the disappointing special cost more than almost everything on the menu, much more than we expected for a relatively small "large plate."

I wanted something different from our usual brunches and came across Cana. The menus is creative, making it very hard to decide on a dish. We got a few different items so we could get a variety of flavors and we weren't disappointed. From the first bite to the last, the food was fantastic! My only food related complaint was that they were out of the Fufu Hash and Yuca fritas, both of which we wanted. Our server told us they are their most popular items and it happens every week. Our reservation was at 12:30 and brunch is served until 3. If this is a weekly occurrence, one might think to purchase more ingredients to maintain the full menu until at least 2 o'clock when you'd expect to start running out of the once a week offerings.

What a surprise! My first time here with a Living Social voucher. The food was delicious and artfully prepared. The 3 of us had berry mojitos. We shared two salads, a flat bread & an ahi app. We each ordered entrees and shared 1 dessert. Bill w/tax and 20%+ tip came to $191.00. Not cheap!!! But we overdid it b/c we had the $100 voucher from Living Social. If I were to go back again, I'd either do drinks w/apps or if dinner, I'd order main and salad, no drinks or dessert. Too pricey for me, especially the drinks! Wish they offered a prix fixe meal of app, main & dessert for $35 but alas, they don't! Service was excellent but it was a Tuesday night and about only five tables were full at 6:45 pm. Not sure about service on a busy night.

We came to Cana to enjoy the music, the first floor where the band is was "sold out" to a birthday party so we had to sit up on the mezzanine where we couldn't even see the band. They had some sound system problems which kept blasting on and off. We ordered a reserve Rioja (red wine) and the server brought a white wine (wrong wine). We tole her which one we wanted and she again brought the wrong wine. No apologies and she never noticed it? The food was decent but would we come back here again? Probably not.

Cocktail & Salad very satisfying. The main entree - pork chops were served lukewarm (disappointing). Bold flavor coffee. Suggestions for upgrading the dining experience: use cloth napkins instead of paper & use utensils of stronger quality (my folk bent as I was cutting the pork chops). Service was prompt, but failed to check if all was satisfactory after the main entree was served. Trio musicians were a nice touch.

This was our third visit. We had a Groupon, which made it a great value. Everything we ate and drank was outstanding, and the presentations were lovely. The service was warm and friendly when our orders were taken, then nonexistent. Our server didn't check on us for the next hour. We had to flag down a busser to get water refilled and order a second drink. The server showed up again to take our dessert order (a wonderful coconut flan). Bonus: we went on a Saturday night and there was live jazz.

For what I mainly look for the restaurant was very good. The food was solid, the drinks were reasonable, but the start in the end could have both been stronger. The host forgot about us for about 10 minutes as an oversight as it appeared that he was not the regular host. They ran out of several dishes including one that I wanted to try and the desert was too dry as bread pudding's tend to go. that might have been the style they were aiming for but I would have done it differently. Their main courses and appetizers were excellent. Additionally they made specific note of items that were gluten-free which was very nice to see. The food and ambience and niceness of our server will make me come back.

We enjoyed a wonderful brunch at Cana SF last Sunday. It is the second time we have been there and do plan to return. Some people have commented that the food is bland. It is not, it is Cuban so the flavors are different and perhaps a bit subtle...but delicious. The only negative was the service. We got off to a very slow start...took about 20 minutes just to get our drinks. They seemed to fall into step after that but one thing is clear....don't go if you are in a hurry. However, on the positive side, the servers were friendly and gracious. Again, we look forward to returning.

My husband and I just went back to Cana for a second visit. We ordered two of the three flat bread options to start. The flavor of each was great and the crust thin and appropriately crispy. Our entrees, vegetarian stew for one of us and slow cooked pork over mashed potatoes for the other, were wonderful, too. About halfway through our early dinner, a Cuban band set up and started to play top notch music. They deserved a bigger crowd than had arrived so far. A note about the flat bread: the menu lists flatbread as a side for $3. When our check arrived, we were charged $10 for one and $11 for the other, a price much more in keeping with the worth of the dish, so we weren't upset. Just be aware.

You could not talk unless they were on break. Even the server had to ask "what?" a frustrating amount of times. They play from 7-9. plan your meal accordingly. If you want to dance, many people do, and the crowd was very friendly.

Visited Cana for the first time this past Saturday 11/23 to celebrate my birthday. The hostest was nice but that's about it. The drinks and food took a really long time, the live music was super loud, the food was edible -- but not the best. We left hungry. At the end, we got our check dropped on the table without asking if we would like anything else. We paid our bill, left and went somewhere else.
