The best cocktail that I've ever had, made with homemade coconut milk! Not sweet...just a perfect balance of lime, sugar & rum. Their signature chicken for two has the best crispy skin with a delicious sauce to soak up all the chicken. We also ordered 2 flatbreads for appetizers and they were delicious. I had only had sweet plantains and they have never been a favorite of mine. The waitress told me to order the salty one with a garlic sauce. OMG they were the best...double fried!

Food was very good, but keep in mind when you go is that the entrees do not include side dishes so that adds to the cost. The main reason I wouldn't go back is the service. Waiters were running around like crazy and they have a separate person that brings you the food. That person twice brought us the wrong dishes (appetizers and entrees).

they had a piano player warming up AND piped in salsa music at the same time. Very unpleasant to have two totally different sounds going very loudly and simultaneously. We were the only people in the restaurant when we arrive, and our food still took 50 minutes to serve. I ordered a salad and it wasn't delivered to the table until my companions were already half-way through their meal. Good parts: great mojitos, tasty food.

We've eaten here numerous times in the evening before theater productions. The food's good, service fine, and atmosphere pleasant. The only thing that'd work better for me is that it's always too cold. I usually have to keep my jacket on and rely on a hot entree to take the chill off.

I thoroughly enjoyed the evening with friends. The food was good, the drinks okay. Service was good, but it was quite busy that night and our server didn't check on us every so often to ask if we needed anything or to fill our glasses. The live music was the highlight.

Four of us went to Cana for Sunday brunch. When we walked in the door, there was a live band playing. While the music was played well and the appropriate type for the venue, it was deafening. My friends and I had to virtually scream at one another. After several minutes, the host requested that the band turn it down a bit. The host had to ask a number of times for the band to lower the volume before an indignant band finally finished their set, packed up, and left. As we were finishing our meal, another band was setting up. Due to the open space with hard surfaces, sound doesn't get muted at all. While I really enjoy Cana's food, I recommend paying attention to the music volume before you sit and subject yourself to a hoarse voice.

I am extremely impressed by the value of my dining experience. My food and cocktails were delicious, but I just can't get over how reasonably priced the restaurant is for the quality and amount of food that is served. My entree was the Pollo Mojo. It was an entire half chicken (a serving large enough for two people) and came with two sides (I choose plantains and a salad). All this for for $21. Amazing! In any other city this wouldn't be a big deal, but in SF it's hard to find great value for your money. Also - everyone that worked in the restaurant was lovely. Really nice, attentive people. And the live salsa band was a treat! I will absolutely be going back!

Upon arriving at the restaurant for an early, 5pm, dinner we were pleasantly surprised at the open layout of the dining area and the lively salsa music playing in the background. That was about it for the highlights of this restaurant as it went downhill for the rest of the evening. Shortly after being seated one of my guests went to the restroom and returned in complete disgust with the sanitary condition of the restroom. The restroom looked like it had not been cleaned in weeks; mind you the restaurant just opened @ 5 so we were the first patrons for the evening. No TP, TP on the floor, no paper towels to dry your hands. This was unacceptable for a restaurant; nightclub maybe but a place that serves food!? Food was bland; nothing special.

The empanadas, sides and a few of the mains are delicious, the drinks luscious, and the staff friendly and apologetic when it took 45 minutes to even see a waitress and at least that long to get drinks and then food. We have been to Caña several times and this was the first time the service was this problematic. But it's a fun place for a special night out and not terribly expensive. It's also that modernist metal atmosphere where you have to scream at your waitress. She's around 20 and even she can't hear you. But that's probably the point. Nice place to go for a drink and appetizer before a show at Z-Space down the block. Sit at the bar.

We went for dinner on a Saturday. There's painfully loud live music, much too loud for a restaurant. Food was quite good. We liked both appetizers: Bacalaítos and Camarone’s “Enchilados” (sauted shrimp with black beans). The whole snapper was excellent. The side of twice fried plantain was disappointing; the garlic sauce that came with it had the synthetic flavor I associate with store-bought crushed garlic. Rioja by the glass is very nice. And the bread pudding was quite good. I liked the fact that it wasn't too sweet. Service was very disappointing. It's possible they were short-staffed that night. I had to ask three times before I got the hot sauce I had requested; and there wasn't even an apology. Our bill was misttalled.

Cana SF is a wonderful place to get together with friends and spend the evening. Great cuban food (although I'd like even more street food variety) with amazingly tasty regional drinks. The whole fish for 2 is always a favorite as are the empanadas and the yucca fries. If you come on a night when there is music, it's a plus, but hard to have an intimate conversation.

Cana has a great "vibe" when the music is playing. The musicians made the experience memorable and they didn't even have a tip jar. They just had an infectious sense of enjoyment which everyone felt. My wife, who lived in Miami a long time, and knows Cuban food, absolutely loved the food. She had the Ropa Vieja and I had a casserole called Pan Diplomatico. Both excellente. Specialty drinks were $10 to $12 which we think is a bit pricey. The Sangria was $10 for a large glass- very tasty and vibrant color with lots of fruit in it. We had a group on but we'll be back without the group on. Nice find and a friendly place. Nothing fancy as to decor but highly enjoyable evening.

When we asked for the wine list, a charming wine vendor came and offered a "special deal" on a $26 bottle wine that would have been about $6 at TJ's. We never got a wine list. We were excited to have tapas in this "little gem" in our neighborhood, but won't be back. We ordered the special, which comprised 3 large and severely overcooked shrimp, 5 overcooked mussels (one of us wouldn't eat either), and a small portion of flank steak, which was ok. When the bill came, we were surprised to learn that the disappointing special cost more than almost everything on the menu, much more than we expected for a relatively small "large plate."

I wanted something different from our usual brunches and came across Cana. The menus is creative, making it very hard to decide on a dish. We got a few different items so we could get a variety of flavors and we weren't disappointed. From the first bite to the last, the food was fantastic! My only food related complaint was that they were out of the Fufu Hash and Yuca fritas, both of which we wanted. Our server told us they are their most popular items and it happens every week. Our reservation was at 12:30 and brunch is served until 3. If this is a weekly occurrence, one might think to purchase more ingredients to maintain the full menu until at least 2 o'clock when you'd expect to start running out of the once a week offerings.

What a surprise! My first time here with a Living Social voucher. The food was delicious and artfully prepared. The 3 of us had berry mojitos. We shared two salads, a flat bread & an ahi app. We each ordered entrees and shared 1 dessert. Bill w/tax and 20%+ tip came to $191.00. Not cheap!!! But we overdid it b/c we had the $100 voucher from Living Social. If I were to go back again, I'd either do drinks w/apps or if dinner, I'd order main and salad, no drinks or dessert. Too pricey for me, especially the drinks! Wish they offered a prix fixe meal of app, main & dessert for $35 but alas, they don't! Service was excellent but it was a Tuesday night and about only five tables were full at 6:45 pm. Not sure about service on a busy night.

We came to Cana to enjoy the music, the first floor where the band is was "sold out" to a birthday party so we had to sit up on the mezzanine where we couldn't even see the band. They had some sound system problems which kept blasting on and off. We ordered a reserve Rioja (red wine) and the server brought a white wine (wrong wine). We tole her which one we wanted and she again brought the wrong wine. No apologies and she never noticed it? The food was decent but would we come back here again? Probably not.

Cocktail & Salad very satisfying. The main entree - pork chops were served lukewarm (disappointing). Bold flavor coffee. Suggestions for upgrading the dining experience: use cloth napkins instead of paper & use utensils of stronger quality (my folk bent as I was cutting the pork chops). Service was prompt, but failed to check if all was satisfactory after the main entree was served. Trio musicians were a nice touch.

This was our third visit. We had a Groupon, which made it a great value. Everything we ate and drank was outstanding, and the presentations were lovely. The service was warm and friendly when our orders were taken, then nonexistent. Our server didn't check on us for the next hour. We had to flag down a busser to get water refilled and order a second drink. The server showed up again to take our dessert order (a wonderful coconut flan). Bonus: we went on a Saturday night and there was live jazz.

For what I mainly look for the restaurant was very good. The food was solid, the drinks were reasonable, but the start in the end could have both been stronger. The host forgot about us for about 10 minutes as an oversight as it appeared that he was not the regular host. They ran out of several dishes including one that I wanted to try and the desert was too dry as bread pudding's tend to go. that might have been the style they were aiming for but I would have done it differently. Their main courses and appetizers were excellent. Additionally they made specific note of items that were gluten-free which was very nice to see. The food and ambience and niceness of our server will make me come back.
