The Hors d'oeuvres were great. Just a Great balance. if you have the wine or champagne, they will pour you some to taste if you like it. That was a great gesture. The bread was good. The service was also very attentive The chairs my sat on have a cut of the leather. They need to follow more details of some of the chairs wear or tear. The main course was a bit weak.

I have eaten breakfast or brunch here many times while staying at the hotel. This was the first time I had dinner at the Campton. The service here is always excellent. For dinner, we had the 6 course meal. Every dish was fabulous. The staff were very accommodating about switching out a course for 2 of us for dietary reasons. We would definitely go back and have dinner here. It is a hidden gem.

I was looking for an elegant and romantic spot, near Union Square and Market, to celebrate our Anniversary, and OpenTable wisely recommend Campton Place. The food presentation an taste were truly azing. Dinner was pricey, and the wine was 2.5x marketed up, BUT, overall...a perfect 10.

We had the most exceptional dinner. Indian cuisine and absolutely amazing preparations and flavors. Our server Caitlan ushered us through the menu with great wisdom and enthusiasm and I don't think we missed a thing. Wonderful food, beautifully plated and served and tastes beyond compare. Maybe my favorite dinner of all time in San Francisco! Lovely dining room, Not noisy and the added treat of a little stool for your purse. Always love that! Highly reccommend!!

Compton place is located in the Compton Hotel on Sutter St. It's a beautifully decorated restaurant. There is parking with a short walk up the alley to the restaurant. The restaurant offers a three course, a six course, and a nine course meal. With the six course and nine course there is no selection of dishes. We had the six course, and it was great. Everything was artfully presented, unique, and delicious, with a couple of surprises along the way. But don't expect to leave the restaurant stuffed. And who wants to? It's much better to leave the restaurant feeling satisfied, well fed, and healthy! Some of the standout dishes were the lobster, the halibut, the lamb, the finger food, and bread. It's expensive, but great.

Our dinner was fabulous from beginning to end. We both had the six course fixed meal served beautifully. Everything was spectacular. Portions were perfectly sized and each one delicious. We were stuffed by the end. The restaurant is fairly quiet and our booth made dining very private even though the restaurant was full. It was more than a meal; it was an event.

Always wonder if Michelin stars really make that much of a difference...are these restaurants really THAT much better? Every time the answer is yes. The Spice Route tasting menu was fantastic, from start to finish (including all the "extras"), and the Indian influence made it special. It wasn't overpowering, if you are not a huge fan of traditional Indian cuisine, just "different" enough. Our server Caitlyn (sp? She'd lost her name placard) was possibly one of the best we've ever had; attentive without being overbearing, knowledgeable (she didn't just recite ingredients by rote, but actually showed an understanding of the menu items), and gave great wine recommendations. Didn't even need to bring in their Master Sommelier! We WILL go back.

I took my Mom here last minute for her birthday lunch. We're Indian and vegetarian and enjoy creative use of ingredients, textures and flavors. We both really like our food, the presentation and the overall atmosphere. The service was excellent. I live here and am looking forward to to going back with friends to try the tasting menu with the wine pairings. Overall, it's a very nice restaurant tucked away in bustling Union Square. I'm glad we tried it last minute after a morning in Union Square.

Wow what an amazing experience! We flew in from TO to sample the SF food scene, and Campton Place was the highlight. The Chef hails from South India and the food is the most interesting I've had since Meadowood. His take on Chaas was delightful and the lamb was cooked Sous Vide with Indian spiced Panko crust. Mango dessert was wrapped in a cylinder and tasted exactly like Alphonso. I see 2 stars coming!

We went for my birthday and for a pre-theater meal. The service was outstanding and the pre-theater price-fixed menu was excellent and a good value, particularly with all the extra appetizers, desserts and birthday cake they threw in. I loved my spice pot appetizer and my beef entree and my husband loved his salmon entree. I honestly wish I had asked for two appetizers and an entree instead of a dessert since the desserts weren't quite as good as the savories. I also wish I knew in advance that they charged a $50 corkage fee. Besides those minor complaints, I thought it was a fabulous restaurant!

The current chef (there have been many) prepares delicious Indian-inspired food that the spice-shy might not appreciate. This is a very comfortable, special occasion place (unless money is no object). As the waiter forewarned us, the portions are small, so sharing is not practical. The presentation is impeccable, the menu offerings are exotic, and the bill might inspire sticker shock.

My wide and I celebrated our wedding anniversary by going to dinner here. Everything was marvelous! The food was delicious! We both had the spice route prix fixe. It was a very flavorful fusion of California ingredients with an Indian twist. We also had the premium wine pairing and each selection was a superb match to the meal. We are gluten-free eaters, which was no problem for the chef to accommodate. We even received a signed congratulations card, and a special dessert (in addition to the dessert that was already part of the menu)! The service was amazing as well - every need was looked after.

Camptom Place is definitely a special occasion place given the high price and the need to dress quite formally. However, their Indian/Californian fusion cuisine works perfectly together! The food is very innovative, fresh and well balanced. The service is for the most part, seamless, and they apologize for any mistakes they do make such as forgetting ordered items. The only downside is the booth seats are too soft, and even my 6'1" husband sunk into the seat so low he felt the table was too high, so imagine how I felt at 5'1"! But otherwise a great place to go for a celebration!

Everything was great, except: 1) everybody at the table must have the same # of courses (NO 3 courses for one and 6 courses for another) 2) for the Theatre Menu, if you want the 3-course meal, you get to pick an appetizer/entree/dessert; however, if you want the 6-course meal, you have to go "blind" (meaning the chef picks your dishes and EVERYBODY at the table will have the SAME thing; TOTALLY not acceptable); otherwise, you can go with the 6-course meal from the Spicy Route Menu or Vegetarian Menu Seriously, we're paying about $100 for a 6-course meal and we don't get to pick what we can have from that very limited Theatre Menu -- 5 appetizers, 5 entrees & 3 desserts. Just the whole menu/ordering process took 1 hour...bad experience.

This restaurant should be far more famous than it is. The food is out-of-this-world. The Indian element is wonderfully integrated with California contemporary creativity. The service is attentive but never intrusive. The only problem is the noise from the adjacent bar which is quite intrusive early on but eases off about 8 PM. A screen between the two rooms would be a great improvement.

We spent a weekend in SF and Campton Place provided highlights 2x. The lamb wrap we had for afternoon snack in the bar was the best we'd ever had. Every ingredient stood out. Brunch the next day included an incredible corn veloute & every other dish was almost as creative and memorable. The service was perfect all the way through---friendly and attentive when we wanted engagement, invisible at other times. Considering the quality of the ingredients, the cuisine and the service, the price was reasonable. I've eaten at most Michelin-starred restaurants in SF and this is atop the list for its creative combinations and flawless service.

The service from all wait staff was knowledgeable, personable and professional. We let them know our plan was to be there all evening and we finished in a well paced 4 hours that felt like 2.
