Campton PlaceAt last! And worth the wait...For several DAT sessions we've been attempting to get to Campton Place, but failed--it was a day they weren't offering DAT, or reservations were filled, etc. We finally managed it, and it was worth the wait! The food was a revelation..a bit of welcome novelty in the molecular gastronomy, but nothing 'precious' or technology for technology's sake. For example, the chef's amuse bouche was a foam of green apple, arugula and avocado that was perfectly balanced and melted on the tongue. The salmon and chicken both featured crisp, tasty skins--possibly removed and rendered separately, then re-united with the meat and perfectly cooked. Location is ideal, just off Union Square.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place for lunch or dinner.Great place for lunch or dinner. The venue is lovely and quiet for conversation. We enjoy the dining room for lunch when shopping at Union Square.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother perfect spotSF has so many great restaurants, that there can be no best, just another one worth going to, and Campton Place fills that bill. The food was without flaw, the service great albeit a little obsequious, and the atmosphere was pleasant, except for a few outbursts of raucous laughter from a table of men who seemed to find each other extremely funny.
Anyway, the quality is very high, the ostentation is moderate, and the staff seemed to be enjoying themselves. We had the OpenTable special lunch, with a more than adeuqate amount of excellent food, but will be returning soon to find out about the regular menu.
Easy parking. Love the chandelier.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMHidden Gem in Union SquareI've passed by the Campton Place Hotel countless times, but never dined there until recently. This is a rare find, particularly with respect to the exemplary service and overall attention to detail. The food is excellent, five stars (though be prepared for portions that are on the small side). All staff is very friendly and attuned to the needs of each table, and also give diners enough space to enjoy their meals. It is clear that the standard is very high there, and that all staff has a high level of experience and really enjoy what they do. The wine pairings are approaching perfection, and the sommelier's recommendations are first-rate. Particularly recommend for business lunches, midday meals with friends, and mid-shopping breaks.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMDine About Town ExperienceCampton Place restaurant is always good in terms of service and food. This was our 5th time eating here and it was its poorest showing yet. We arrived 10 minutes early for our Noon reservation and were told they were not ready to seat us but would come get us in the bar when they were. At 12:10PM they came to get us and we found 6 other tables were seated before us, Strike 1. The service is always deliberate (i.e., slow); however, this experience was beyond the pale. The soup was outstanding and the salad was "eh". The salmon was tremendous and the chicken was OK. The moose for dessert was great but the peach offering was better left in the kitchen. I hope this was just a one-off experience and not a sign of things to come.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome! One of the best meals I have ever eaten. Food had a very very subtle sophisticated Indian influence and flavors. The presentation for each and ever dish was top notch. The dinner could not have been any better.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMlunch@camptonplaceThe service was excellent. The food divine. Favorite was corn veloute. Superb.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways enjoyableThe food is good and the service (starting from the reservation phone line service to table service) is top notch. Campton Place is always enjoyable.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMhad brunch on sunday: dinehad brunch on sunday: dine about town promotion. our party of 2 sat in the back corner next to the window, very cozy & romantic.
the chef is an expert in sauces: salad dressings were phenomenal, awakening every taste bud. the garnishes delightful in fresh colors: EVERY plate was a magnificent painting.
the peach oolong tea panna cotta is quite original.
beautiful fragrant & colorful flowers in the foyer and dining room.
very smart of them to serve coffee in a pot to save the waiter many trips for refill and allow us some privacy.
a very memorable experience!!!6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMDelectable DefinedChef Srijith tilts his menus toward Asian delights while retaining a balanced California cuisine presentation. His results are extraordinary in every way. With menu names like "Spring Pot" and "Sweet Pea" one must rely upon the wait staff to capture what lies ahead, but venture forth and you shall experience something truly special. Each of the wait staff are superb (and all are there to help), offering clear descriptions of the food, presentations, and flavors without overdoing doing it with zingy talk. They are ever present but never intruding. And the dining room is one of the most pleasant and peaceful places one can find to have a great luncheon or dining experience.
Go and enjoy!5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful diningVery creative food. Very creative chef. Beautiful presentations. Love this place and the bar menu is also terrific.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMOne needs to keep in mindOne needs to keep in mind that dinner's are tasting menus only. Elegant food with a touch of Indian/Asian spicing.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMSpice and Nice!A superior combining of the ingredients. The spices were subtle and so interesting. The presentation of each dish was awe inspiring. The service, the smiles, the explanations - all of the highest caliber. Thank you for a delicious evening.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMA reliable standard for aA reliable standard for a high end dinning experience.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had the three course tastingWe had the three course tasting menu since we were not hungry enough to try the 6 or nine course menu. Everything was wonderful. We both had the lobster appetizer which had an adequate size piece of lobster. My husband had the halibut which he said was the best piece of halibut that he had ever had. I had the filet which was perfectly cooked and quite tender. There were two pieces of just the heart of the filet. I was not able to finish them but my husband did finish it for me. We both had the chocolate dessert. These were small portions so despite being full we both were able to finish them. We had a bottle of the Tattinger Domaine de Carneros sparkling wine to drink. Initially it was too warm but cooled quickly in the ice bucket.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMTruly uniqueThe main course and desserts were exquisite. The appetizers were so-so but the menu overall is eclectic/Indian inspired. "California" is an inaccurate description of the style of cuisine in my opinion.
The dishes were truly unique and utterly imaginative -- one of a kind. Doesn't get five stars because a bit pricey and most important, to get 5 stars, everything you put in your mouth must blow you away. But 5 stars for creativity, preparation and ambitiousness of the Chef.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMExceptionalTook my sister to lunch on a Sunday to celebrate her becoming a doctor. Service was impeccable, food was fantastic. An exceptional experience.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMThe price and fixe pre putThe price and fixe pre put it in the special category for many of us... but it is at least once a year for us. Delighted that Michelin acknowledged with a star.
Our Austrian waiter (now getting his citizenship) was very appreciated.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a truly spectacularWe had a truly spectacular meal. Every dish was tremendous.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMAn outstanding restaurant. An outstanding restaurant. My wife and I opted for the nine course tasting menu with wine pairing; it was memorable, if not something to do regularly. Unlike some restaurants that seem to stress creativity over actual taste, all the courses were both creative and delicious. The chef's use of spices and ingredients in sometimes unusual pairings worked wonderfully in all the courses. The impeccable service fully matched the food. The only quibble with the overall experience was the relatively high noise level from the bar, but this seemed to drop after the post-work drinkers left. Overall, very highly recommended for special occasions or for serious foodies with an evening to devote to fine dining.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went to Campton Place forWe went to Campton Place for a Sunday Brunch. The place was very quiet, which means people are missing out on a great experience. The chef is from India and the fusion of Indian with other cuisines is subtle but awesome. I am no coffcee drinker but the French press was terrific.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent option for businessExcellent option for business lunches. Best meal we've had in a long time and we eat out a lot and frequent very high end places. My husband was just beside himself all night long and couldn't believe how each course was better than the last. He had the market tasting menu with wine pairing and I had the amazing vegetarian tasting menu. Everything was simply top notch and we may well take another trip to SF just to eat here again.
