  • "Wow. Well, VERY expensive but exceedingly lovely. Muted, beautiful colors; handy little back pillow for the booths. Wonderful, attentive staff. Totally quiet on Palm Sunday for dinner. Beautiful, beautiful, luscious food. Three amuse bouche! I had the crab salad, the roast/seared duck breast, and a delightful chocolate dessert with a generous glass of the Hartford Court Pinot Noir. "Cal-India" flavors were subtle and sooooo good."

  • "Why eat elsewhere for breakfast when one could get better waffles, french toast, or pancakes for close to the same prices as other nearby venues in Union Square? But here, you ALSO get: michelin star service (my waiter was courteous and friendly); a choice of 4 newspapers; a quiet and classic environment; and top quality ingredients. My pancakes even came with a separate tray of (1) butter; (2) already melted butter; (3) syrup; and (4) an assortment of fresh berries. While waiting for my food to arrive (and it wasn't that long) my waiter even served me some wonderful berries, on the house. Now THIS is breakfast dining in style. I'll be back!"

  • "From appetizers, main courses and desserts, there was not a moment that was not delightful, delicious and picture worthy. My 16 year old daughter took photos of each dish. My guest and I were extremely happy with the meal and the entire dinner experience which rivals Quince, in my opinion, and Gary Danko. It is less formal and more relaxed, however, in my opinion, though as elegant. The staff was terrific, warm, welcoming and skillful."

  • "We happened upon Campton Place when we needed a last minute reservation and it was surprisingly available. The room is politely decorated -- nothing showy but neither ill considered -- with a row of very private booths along one wall. The service was perfectly attentive and integrated to where it was nearly invisible. But it was the food that really shined. We had the six-course tasting menu that, with amuses and palate cleansers, was closer to 10. It started with a mint and ginger ice that was incredibly flavorful and woke up our hungry and tastebuds without overwhelming the rest of the meal -- skillful! Rather than spoil the rest of the surprise, know that you can trust the chef to deliver an excellent meal where each bite is memorable."

  • "Went for lunch. The bread was a little stale. We opted for a la carte. Sunchoke soup was the highlight. a naturally sweet broth perfectly smooth and rich, served over perfectly tender mushrooms to add some umami, with grapes to add some texture and additional sweetness to the sunchoke. Very well done. The entrees were decent but not really up to the standard. One had a cashew sauce with prawns served over rice noodles, but the rice noodles were. The ingredients were very fresh but the flavors weren't particularly bold. A pedestrian tagliatelle with tomato sauce and topped with shaved truffle. The truffle lent good aromatics but didn't do much flavor-wise. I'd be excited to come back to try the Spice road tasting menu at dinner."

  • "Outstanding service, ambiance, & food. This is a place to eat at for special occasions. The staff are really focused on you & they will cater what they serve to your dietary needs. The food served here is upscale, with unique items, & many items that are Indian fusion. This is the place to eat if you want to try items you will not get anywhere else. My wife & I had the vegetarian tasting menu & have no regrets. We also added some of their expensive truffles to one dish, had non alcoholic Navarro wine, vegetarian cheese, & mint lemonade. This is truly one of the top restaurants in the world."

  • "So went to San Fran on a weekend whim with a friend who's allergic to anything that swims. We were bummed when we found almost all the michelin restaurants in the area do tasting menus to exclusion and the fish being so fresh and wonderful in San Fran it was dominating the menus in most place. (Which it should.) Calling to confirm my reservation, the host asked if I Id be sampling the testing menu. I said I wouldn't, because my guest was allergic to fish. When we arrived, we found the chef had put together a custom tasting menu just for my friend. If that weren't enough, our waiter was on hand for every dorky foodie question, with wine tips and lots of details about our food. The one and oooonly con: our server felt a teensy bit flustered."

  • "We enjoyed the 6 course prix fixe menu on Valentine's Day. We also chose the wine pairing although we asked to have small poutings of each wine. The meal was outstanding, especially the shrimp and lobster courses. Both shellfish were poached and cooked to perfection with interesting sauces. These dishes reminded us of Le Bernardin in New York our favorite restaurant."

  • "Service was not befitting a Michelin 1* restaurant. Confirmation call-back should be straight-forward, but it wasn't. I was offered sparking water, but wasn't told they had only 1 liter bottles. As a single diner, I should've been advised. I was over-charged $22 on my bill, which was eventually corrected, but it they had the class I'd expect of a M 1*, they would've at least comped me a latte. Food was nicely prepared and interesting, on the other hand."

  • "This is probably the most attractive dining room in San Francisco. A bright airy dining room with lovely paintings on the walls and an abstract glass sculpture hanging from the ceiling. Food has always been very good on all of my visits. Communication with the waiter caused a misstep and I got more wine than I had wanted. I think it was a language problem. This is the kind of place where a lady's purse has it's own cushion on the floor, something I have only seen once in Barcelona, Spain."

  • "Went out with four girlfriends and were surprized that they had a bench for our purses. Service was exceptional and place is not noisy at all. We had a wonderful conversation. Second time we visited the place and again, ordered the fish dish. Soup was also delicious. VERY CLASSY place and recommend it to anyone who wants to impress someone. Not the usual noisy, upbeat environment but more a quiet place where you can have a conversation. Definitely will return there."

  • "The only think I don't understand is why this place was empty at prime time Friday evening. The prices are at the high end but comparable to other SF top venues and the food and ambience make the price well worth it. The chef is east Indian but the dishes span a broad spectrum from continental to French to Indian and all have a bit of a spice kiss. There are two fix price menus including a vegie tasting menu. The room is beautiful and the service was formal and attentive without being over-bearing. Nice surprises like serving one of the appetizers with some foaming dry ice in the base to create a SF fog experience table side. We enjoyed the option of having a cheese course as one of the desert options."

  • "Dine about town lunch and the dining room appeared to be understaffed and staff lacked training. Woman next to us couldn't get anyones attention. Server plunked down soup bowls while we were eating our amuse bouche. Before he started to pour the soup I suggested that we hadn't finished our first dish yet. He replied that the soup would get cold if he didn't serve it now. I told him that nevertheless we needed to finish our first dish before he brought the soup and that he should bring the soup when we were ready for it, not has his own convenience."

  • "We had lunch on a Saturday, between Christmas and New Year. I can only surmise the A-team was resting for the holiday events because we were greates by less than one Michelin star waiters, barely speaking English and clearly not at the level required. The food was good, especially the lamb roulade and duck samosa. The black cod was totally uninteresting and unworthy. Scallops are by far the best appetizer. Desserts were very good. Overall, it didn't feel like a one-star restaurant. Many other reviewers have said the same. It is good and the A La Carte menu is pricey but not totally outrageous for a place like this. Wine list is on the expensive side -- difficult to pick a wine bottle under $100."

There is also a detectable and annoying hum in the the room that might have been an outside air handling unit. The two breakfast dishes we ordered were very good."

  • "This was my first visit to Campton and I can't wait to go back. I took my father-in-law to lunch before attending The Nutcracker. I put a note in my open table reservation that we had a time window for lunch. The staff was very accommodating, even taking our valet ticket to have our car out front when we were ready to leave. (I had no idea it would take 20+ minutes to get the car so this was a life saver.) The restaurant is beautiful, the service attentive to every detail and the food was fantastic! I highly recommend Campton for your special occasion."

  • "The experience at Campton Place is sensational. From the time guests enter the exquisitely decorated dining room to the moment of departure, its marvelous. The chef, with an Indian background has combined American and India approaches to meal preparation and flavors and both presentation and food enjoyment benefit greatly. The servers are efficient and food arrives at the table a well timed intervals. It's best to plan to dine at Campton Place with no after meal engagements so the meal can be savored."
