  • "We had been told about Camp Verde by a friend, who highly recommended it. We drove over from San Antonio not really knowing what to expect. Even my husband was very pleasantly surprised. The drive over was scenic, the buildings are lovely, the general store was fun and full of interesting items. We had made a reservation at the restaurant, so we got in right away. The food was great (although the portions were so large even my husband couldn't finish his meal.. I will certainly make plans to bring others out in the future."

  • "We spent the day driving from New Braunfels down all the back roads in search of wild flowers and scenic things. We did drive across the street to the entrance of the original Camp Verde. Our only regret was not having enough history to review. It would have been so nice to see old pictures and read the history of the area. I brought 2 grandchildren who went especially to learn something new and perhaps know more about the camel project and the past history of the site itself. They we're very disappointed and I have to admit that I too. I was under the impression that perhaps we'd have a nice history lesson to cherish. So much more could be added to make Camp Verde unique. What is available is very nice."

  • "We are winter Texan's and enjoy your wonderful restaurant, the novelty names for the sandwiches are fun! The staff is friendly, everything is clean and bright, love the paintings on the walls and just a great place to dine."

  • "Camp Verde is a place we hit for lunch fairly often. The food is always excellent, and the portions are generous. For Sunday lunch, do recommend making a reservation...and Open Table sure makes that easy!"

  • "The drive is beautiful to get to this Hill Country "hidden gem" but most definitely worth the extra time it takes to find it! Huge portions of incredible food at a very reasonable price. The scenic grounds and building have so much history dating back to the Civil War. You will not likely forget the "camel experiment" story once you read about it. The meatloaf and pork chop are both wonderful lunch choices (along with the large array of over-sized burgers) but save room for the apple fritter! It is enough for 2 or 3 people and is in itself worth the trip!"

  • "Service and ambiance are the best. We can have a Conversation, relax and enjoy a good Quality meal, that is made with fresh ingredients. Not the franchise kind of place. It is special."

  • "My wife recommended that I have lunch at the Camp Verde store. She also recommended the meal loaf which came with mashed potatoes and grilled squash. In my opinion the squash where outstanding in both taste and texture. The mash potatoes where also outstanding. However, the meat loaf leaved a little bid to be desired. It lacked seasoning and seem to have been over cooked. This meat loaf may have been from the previous day and was warmed up a little too much. It had a very hard crushed surface which was not noticeable to the eye because it had a tomato-catchup topping. I was with another person and time was of the essence so I did not say anything to the host. In hind sight I should have returned the meal."

  • "We really enjoyed our lunch at Camp Verde on Valentines Day. Spent the time with old friends. There were 4 of us and we all felt the same about lunch and dessert. However, the red velvet cake we had for dessert was very dry---not like red velvet at all. The icing was great and that is what we ate. Two months ago, my daughters and I went by and split the coconut pie and peach cobbler between the three of us. They were both delicious!! We love the store and shopping was good. Found several things for the kitchen that I could not live another day without!! Between the 4 of us, we all found several items to purchase. Thanks for a good time!!"

  • "This is the second time we've been to Camp Verde. It is a fabulous place to have lunch...very relaxing and casual. The menu consists of a wide variety of sandwiches and burgers and a few select specialities. We had a delicious pork chop cooked to perfection with mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. The service was outstanding. Included in our lunch special was a red velvet cake which I thought was a little dry. Adding a scoop of ice cream might have helped. All in all a very pleasant experience."

  • "There is pure quality reflected at Camp Verde. Every detail, every staff member, every product in the accompanying gift shop, every aspect of dining has been selected with the utmost care by the Grossman family. From the greeting you receive to the wonderful historic elements that have been restored, to the hostess and our server, we were already smitten. The menu offers variety for all tastes. The quality was impressive. We had house salads, onion rings (a must have), the lemonade, the meatloaf, the wide array of sandwiches and the 'make you own' sandwich offerings, made for a robust lunch conversation about how pleased we were. Everything is shareable, with generous portions. We still managed to make room to share deserts."

  • "Drove up from San Antonio on a Saturday. The new and improved restaurant at the Camp Verde General Store is fantastic! Well worth the drive. Old favorites (Arthur's Delight sandwich is my mine) and an expanded menu. All served in a great venue with a view of Verde Creek. We'll be back soon."

  • "We have eaten numerous times at Camp Verde and it is delicious, affordable, and the service is great. We have had Mark several times as our wait staff and he is super. The opportunity to make reservations is also great. We would like for Camp Verde to extend their hours to the evening."

  • "Our meatloaf and grilled pork chop plates were both very good renditions of what they were supposed to be accompanied by a fresh spinach and tomato salad, nicely seasoned garlic mashed potatoes and texas toast; food to make any camel jockey happy . . . and I am referring to the army riders of the even-toed ungulates from 1857. Plenty of good comfort food to fill this boy's "hump". Camp Verde definitely feels like an outpost with its remote location in the rolling hill country. And for the army boys who camped a mile or so to the west of the store, being able to garner supplies and "camel feed" at the general store must have been a godsend. They must have been a dedicated lot though, to walk a mile for a camel!"

  • "While this is a lovely restaurant with very good shopping, today's experience was less than desirable. We had reservations and still had to wait for a table when we arrived. Service was incredibly slow, food was mediocre. I would recommend going there only when it's not during a holiday season, on a weekday when there aren't more than four people in the restaurant. I will go back and see if things are better next time......shopping is wonderful and their sales people are extremely helpful. Maybe they should employ more people like the employees in their store for their restaurant."

  • "My husband and I stopped here on our way home from a road trip and really enjoyed it. We took our daughter here for lunch while she was visiting. We all ordered the special of the day, which was wonderful. We will definitely go back again even though it is an hour drive from our home."

  • "The new section of Camp Verde is beautiful, and the food remains the high quality it has always been with an expanded menu. Service is great, prices are low, quantities are huge - all in all a very nice experience every time we eat at Camp Verde. I recommend them to anyone and bring my guests there at least once during every visit. I made my reservation for a Sunday afternoon at 1pm through OpenTable, and everything was perfect; the table was available and ready for me at the reserved time."

  • "From the minute you pull up to the place, you know this is going to be a first class experience. The landscaping, the architecture...fabulous! We were seated immediately, as we had a reservation. Mark, our waiter, was AWESOME! kuddos, Mark! My husband is a musician, and has sensitive ears, so I was nervous at first when we were seated. Lots of glass walls and concrete floors and very open. But you can tell they went to GREAT EFFORT to sound condition the room. It was QUIET, even though the room was full for lunch on a Saturday. The meal was exceptional and with large portions. This is our new favorite get away...We will be back...very soon! You should be very proud of what you have created at Camp Verde."

  • "This was our first time to visit the Camp Verde General Store and Restaurant. The food was fabulous and shopping at the General Store was great. The architecture and grounds are beautiful with all of the rock and wood work, along with the waterfalls. This is a great day trip from San Antonio and I would recommend it to anyone. A true gem in the Texas Hill Country."

  • "Camp Verde General Store and Restaurant is about an hour's scenic drive from San Antonio, through the beautiful hill country. Food servings are generous, delicious, and beautifully presented. Our group shared an order of the "don't miss" onion rings, then enjoyed Arthur's Delight turkey sandwich, the Jolly Reuben, and the beefy Ooh La La. One member of our party opted for Donna's Meat loaf dinner which was a plate full of delicious comfort food. Stuffed, but with our doggie boxes packed, we opted to share a piece of the coconut cream pie, a perfect ending to a great lunch in a great place!"
