Diner Reviews
  • "My husband and I have wanted to try Cambridge Mill for some time food-wise it lives up to the recommendations. The steaks were perfect and the creme brulee was to die for. We loved the view of the river. The only thing negative was the large party in the back of the dining room who were so loud that we could not speak at a normal level. At no time were we offered anther table away from the noisy group nor did they ask them to keep it down in consideration for the other diners. Seeing as we spent so much on a dinner at what is considered one of Cambridge's finest restaurants, I would have thought that they would have given the noise level a bit more consideration. Too bad, because otherwise we would have had an outstanding night."

  • "My husband and I went for a romantic dinner, we asked for a table for 2 with a view. We got neither...instead, they have us a booth, away from the window (which has the view) in a high traffic area of the restaurant. We were expecting a fine dining experience, however, it felt more like a family restaurant. Our server was pleasant...the food was okay, but over priced in my opinion. Oh, and the wine list was mediocre at best."

  • "It was beautiful from Beginning to End. I requested a table with a view and we were right watching the break of the River. It was gorgeous. Our server Roland was extremely knowledgeable and never steered us wrong, through our dining experience. The food was amazing. Instead of an appetizer, we started with the "Delicata". My husband got the chef's choice (which) was lamb. It was fall off the bone, delicacy. We both got the Twice baked potato and it was nothing I have ever tasted before, it was scrumptious. I had the 8 oz steak with a little bit of extra's (shrimp & peppercorn sauce) the steak was cooked perfectly. Thank you so much. We're looking forward to the Brunch we have heard so much about."

  • "We went to the Mill for the first time for my birthday last week and thoroughly enjoyed it. The location is beautiful and the food was really excellent, as was the service. Before going, I thought the price was a bit high for brunch, but afterward thought that it was certainly worth the price."

  • "My companion and I enjoyed our visit very much. For each of us it was our first visit and we were pleased with all aspects. Each of us said "we will be back." Only concern: if I had mobility problems, how do I access the restaurant? I was not thinking about this as I climbed the stairs but wondered about the issue later."

  • "Wonderful experience. This was the best brunch we have ever had. From the beginning we were greeted by happy, cheery staff. Our waitress was welcoming , attentive and knowledgeable. Then there was the food, what do you say about the most delicious, appetitizing and visual appealing food ever but YUMMY. THANKYOU SO MUCH. We will be back."

  • "Hair embedded in food. Charge for tap water. Noisy patrons and no music. Spraying and cleaning half of table while we were eating. I don't know where the dirt came from but guess the people before us."

  • "The restaurant has such beautiful scenic views of the Grand River. The wait staff is amazing, and always friendly and knowledgeable. The food is fresh, Ontario grown, and is impeccable. You never leave hungry, as the portion sizes are perfect, and sometimes even enough to take home in a doggy bag to enjoy the next day!"

  • "Cambridge Mill sits on the east bank of the Jgrand River with extensions cantilevered over the river. Great place to sit and enjoy an excellent menu. Service was attentive and subdued, staff oerceived this being an occasion and made it special for us Will return again , especially in better weather, tho the ice chunks swirling by and the Canada geese were well worth watching on a grey day"

  • "I've gone here for special occasions and dinner nights. Always a pleasant experience and excellent food. Service has always been great for me, and I love how the menu changes seasonally. The only minor issue I would have is that you aren't always guaranteed a great view - the Cambridge Mill is known for its views of the river, and when you don't get that it's somewhat disappointing as that's part of the experience for me. Overall, an excellent location."

  • "Excellent food and value for the special 3 course pre theatre dinner for $29. We enjoyed a salad, chicken with risotto and delicious dessert of warm honey cruellers with a small scoop of ice cream. A great evening of food and theatre and we will do this again when we return to the Dunfield Theatre."

  • "The Mill was a nice place to sit and have a quiet meal. The building itself is so interesting and the view of the river so beautiful that it kept us fully occupied. The Caesar salad was remarkable, but when the main course (Striploin steak) arrived we felt a bit of a letdown. It was good but not better then what is served at the chain restaurants. (For a lot less money) The servers were attentive and not intruding. All in all the experience was good enough that we will return to try other menu items."

  • "I booked a reservation. At the Cambridge Mill to celebrate my good friend's 40th birthday over lunch and a bottle of champagne. Our meals were delicious and the ambience was perfect for a Saturday afternoon. We both ordered salads and the variety of offerings made it difficult to decide on just one! We both ended up having the beet and goat cheese salad with jumbo scallops added. Delicious!"

  • "quiet table for two as requested with nice view, very attentive service and took time to explain the daily specials very well. I ordered ribeye medium and although it was closer to medium well, very well marbled and quite delicious. My patner enjoyed the Lobster combination and was very statisfied. This was only our second visit but will continue to enjoy an occassional evening at this restaurant"

  • "They say first impressions last a lifetime. This was our first visit to the Cambridge Mill and it was better than we could ever imagine. I found your menu on line and picked the Sunday brunch for our choice. I made the reservations on line and asked for a window seat. My daughter was happily surprised when the Fantastic cheerful waitress led us to our window seat. My daughter loved the drinks and seafood and hot table as well. She had a huge smile the entire meal. The selection of food was outstanding and I wouldn’t change the menu at all. My favourite was the chocolate fountain with mixed fruit. Hope to be back soon"

  • "Sunday brunch was a phenomenal experience! The Mill staff certainly pays attention to details, even down to re folding our napkins as we left the table to go to the buffet. The food was fresh and exquisite. I would highly recommend The Mill, especially to impress any guest."

  • "We have been to the Ancaster Old Mill previously and enjoyed it immensely. There appeared to be fewer items available at the Cambridge Mill but this was not a criticism; there was more food than we could eat! There was a nice variety and everything was delicious. Of particular note was the wide array of desserts, which were fantastic. Service was prompt and pleasant. The design of the restaurant was intentional to allow maximum views of the water, which was very nice. I look forward to going back one day."

  • "Dining at the Cambridge Mill is a true dining experience! The service level, from our arrival to departure, was friendly & very attentive without being over-powering. My wife & I thoroughly enjoyed the excellent quality food from the warm home-baked bread to the delicious & artistic main servings. As a 'spouses birthday celebration', we were very pleased with the overall experience and food experience at a very fair price, including a very nice bottle of wine. And as its name suggests, the 'old mill by the river' atmosphere made for a very relaxing and enjoyable evening of fine dining."

  • "You can't do better than the Cambridge Mill for a perfect dinner. Everything about the restaurant is done well. My only complaint is that it's not in Toronto. But it's worth every second on the 401. The service is excellent and they know the menu well. Leave some room for incredible desserts! The tables are spaced well so your conversations feel private."

  • "The risotto was incredibly crunchy and undercooked. My whole family is Italian and the server tells me that it was just al dente....I laughed and said "oh no it's not, but we can let the chef think so for tonight" and sent it away without ordering anything else since we were at the end of our meal. Myself and my grandma know how to make a proper risotto. The other dishes that we order were just good but not jaw dropping or well balanced with flavour texture and quality all together. Each dish lacked at least one component and were not consistence. I will say however, that the ox tail over gnocchi dish was balanced and cooked very well with a rich meaty flavoured. I was impressed with this one and wished I had just orders two of those."

  • "Can't say enough great things about our experience at Cambridge Mill. It was my friend's birthday and our waiter brought 2 glasses of bubbly and dessert 'on the house'. The food was done perfectly, our waiter was perfect and the view was 'to die for'."

  • "The choices available are simply amazing. $40 per head is relatively nothing for brunch when you're eating salmon, oysters, mussels, shrimp, sushi. The cold bar is fabulous. Plus for those who love hot food - there is a carvery, waffle station, omelette station and so much more. Fresh fruit, chocolate fountains... You could spend 3 hours at brunch and still not taste everything on offer. Oh, and I almost forgot - the freshly made Mimosa's - who can say no to champagne? The food is fresh, delicious and staff simply amazing."

  • "Went to this restaurant because we were in Cambridge for an evening event. The view and service were great and the food was good, but the prices were astronomically high, especially the wines, so the experience was less than satisfactory."

  • "I invited my son and his girlfriend out to celebrated his birthday and decided The Cambridge Mill was the place to go after hearing such good reviews. My son ordered his steak 'medium rare' and he recieved it more rare (red blue in the center) but decided it eat it anyway. My son's girlfriend and I ordered the special of the evening, which was the ocean perch dish. It was only slightly warm, lacking in seasoning and not quite cooked through in some places, as well as a few bones present. Our celebrating mood, instantly diminished. ."

  • "The setting is amazing, very picturesque, our food was very good for some but it was just OK for me. And with the prices we expected great for all. We had trouble hearing the waitress due to the noise level in the large room we were seated in and I believe that is why I missed that fact that the food I selected was very citrus tasting (not my favourite). For the others in my party their food was great and the fireplace is lovely at this time of year!"

  • "Pros Our server was wonderful. Every time we left the table, we came back to our napkin neatly folded and all plates cleared. The view was beautiful, and the crepes were fantastic! Love the variety of food. The real maple syrup was a special treat, and it was so nice to have a lot of pescetarian options. Cons We arrived at 9:30, and a lot of the food wasn't even ready yet. The sushi bar only had one roll and they were gone within seconds. Churros never showed up at the chocolate fountain - was really looking forward to them. The perogies were my favourite part last time, but this time the onions and perogies were soggy. It was SO cold that I had to wear my winter coat on my lap the entire meal, which was uncomfortable."

  • "In our party of four, we all loved our food. Very tastefully prepared and served. We found it all priced on the high side. For example, my scallop appetizer had TWO (yes, 2) scallops and was $15! The servings were small for the money...a decent wine (from Niagara) was also $15 for a half a glass, about 4 oz. We would return, but not in the near future. We hear that the champagne brunch is a better deal."

  • "You may have a favourite place for brunch, but if it isn't the Cambridge Mill it is because you haven't been here yet. Located on the Grand River in the historic part of Cambridge this is a must visit. We came from Georgetown which is 50 minutes away, if I still lived in Toronto, I would still go here. Service is great, we were seated immediately, & offered complimentary coffee, sparkling wine, mimosas and Bloody Caesars. The brunch is divided into a cold and hot section. The cold section has seafood, salads, cold cuts, sushi and deserts are in the bar area. The real danger here is you may fill up here and never get to the hot section. Hot has a crepe & omelet station, crepes are amazing. The Yorkshire pudding is incredible. RAN OUT OF ROOM"

  • "The Mill has a great atmosphere, romantic, picturesque setting. Food was great, hot, flavorful, presentation was good. Our server did not seem to be on his game. My order came out wrong, and when I asked him to box up my leftovers his reply was “Oh absolutely, they will make for a good lunch tomorrow”, he grabbed my plate and start cleaning it off to another plate of someone else food. I stopped him, and he answered “Oh ya, I’m sorry”. I guess he was just having a bad day. Other than that it was a good experience and good food."
