Calle OchoA gem!Calle Ocho never disappoints, the lighting is perfect for dates!6/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThe staff is very accomodatingThe staff is very accomodating and eager to please. We were offered complimentary drinks because we had to wait 10 minutes past our reservation time of 5:30. (We were in a bit of a hurry and the hostess felt extremely bad)
The food was superb and a wonderful meal was had by all.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMVibrant Food & Great Service! This restaurant was recommended to us by friends who lived in NYC. It is located off the lobby of a hotel, but don't let that fool you! Although the menu wasn't vast, what they prepared was awesome! The unique bread and black beans that comes to every table really set the mood for what was coming... a unique and flavorful experience. The Paella was delicious and I couldn't evern come close to finishing the portion. The timing of the meal was excellent and I would highly recommend this great restaurant.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMSunday BrunchGreat place to grab food for Sunday brunch. Came here with a friend recently and loved the food and sangria selection. I ordered a Pollo Ranchero and loved it. Not too much food to make you feel like a glutton.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMweekend brunch & sangria.. yes!the sangria and brunch simply delicious... I wasn't impressed my waitress and the manager. felt completely rushed... other than that, excellent!6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMStill very good, but...I still give it a very good - but I liked the brunch better at the original location a block away. Having the 7 different sangrias and several different mojitos (mojitos are no longer included) at their own station for patrons to get at their leisure and as many times as they wanted was part of the big draw. And they took ropa vieja off the brunch menu, that is a staple of Cuban menus and my favorite . And I have to say the sangria tasted like red wine mixed to be sangria, not actual sangria itself. However, the food is still good, the service was very good. I just think it was a 5 star brunch - set up, menu, decor - at the old Columbus Ave location. I was a fanatic when it was there.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMUnlimited Sangria - NotAlthough I enjoyed my food I was only able to get two glasses of sangria with my meal. My previous experience at this restaurant was 200% better. I was able to try all of the sangria varieties they have and only had to wait in line. This time though, I had to practically beg the wait staff to bring me a second drink. Poor customer service. The staff appeared to be rushing the customers out of the restaurant more of a hurry and eat spot more than a chill brunch spot. Calle Ocho please take it back to the experience I had and enjoyed two years ago.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMFUN BrunchThe atmosphere was great. The food was good. The sangria was amazing , but our waiter
'T" was the bomb!!!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMAppetizers & coconut mojitoI love this restaurant. The food is awesome and
the coconut mojito is to die for. I strongly recommend
this Restaurant.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were looking for a placeWe were looking for a place on the west side near the entrance to the Delacorte and came upon Calle Ocho. The service was attentive and helpful, food recommendations were good and we had a terrific meal. We look forward to returning and trying some other items on the menu.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful Alternative!Interesting menu, delicious food, sensible pricing. A win5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMNew locationThis was our 1st visit at the new location, what an upgrade.!!...we loved the original Calle Ocho, but the mood just got better.
We will be back soon...5 STARS5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb all around dining experienceSuperb all around dining experience.. Bravo Calle Ocho!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food!My wife and I met relatives for dinner here. This was our first time and we consider ourselves foodies. My wife is pregnant, so it's important that service was timely and correct. We ordered calamari, empanadas, and shrimp for the table as appetizers, all were DELICIOUS! The calamari was some of the best we've had. For dinner my wife and I shared the seafood paella, which was so so good.
We skipped dessert, but i'm sure it would've been yummy.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat ambiance, menu and foodHad an early dinner and we really enjoyed the experience. Kitchen opens at 6pm, but bar is open earlier. Decor is warm and vibrant with great Latin music playing. Bar is roomy and drinks were good (mojitos and 2 types of sangria). Menu is interesting with lots of options (only one vegetarian entree). We enjoyed each of the appetizers and entrees. Service was attentive and nice. Would definitely return!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food & serviceVery tasty food, flavorful, nicely presented. The free sangria bar on Sundays is nice. Service was excellent.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMTry the mojitoFrom the start with tasty rolls and black bean spread, to the delicious appetizers, entrees and outstanding desserts, Calle Ocho does not disappoint. The mojito is probably the best I've ever had, the vegetarian paella was more than filling, and the apple tart was just the right amount of sweet and tart. Go hungry and try it all.
The noise level is a little high, but nothing two people can't have a conversation over.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for BrunchThis place is one of my favorites. I came here for my birthday brunch on February and they were extremely accommodating. I then decided to take my mother her for brunch and she enjoyed it as well. The food is great the sangria If your not careful will put you on your booty but overall it was a great experience. I would recommend this place to anyone celebrating a special occasion . It is extremely important that you book in advance their brunch is highly anticipated so these reservations fill up quick !5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMVery nice Hispanic style food-Very nice Hispanic style food- with some strong Cuban influences. Comfortable atmosphere within a very large restaurant. Service was very friendly and very competent. Prices are reasonable, especially considering the high quality.
I and my friends recommend it highly5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMVery nice diner with friendsFood is great and very original, they have some amazing cocktails and brunch is kind of unique.
The only issue is the light, it is very dark and you hadrly see what you are eating even if it is very good5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for Brunch!Absolutely amazing mini-do-it-yourself tacos, watering in your mouth. With unlimited selection of sangria it's a killing deal! Must visit!5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways excellent! This is probably my fourth time at Calle Ocho and they are still amazing. The service is great, the food is delicious (specially the gallitos) and the mojitos (mango and coconut) are a must to try!
Love this place and will continue going!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was Good as always, desertsFood was Good as always, deserts were much better in the past.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMI love bringing people toI love bringing people to Calle Ocho (when I can get a reservation that is). I have only tried brunch, and I have had a great experience every time I have come. The sangrias are great, the atmosphere is great, and the food is usually good. The only reason I gave the food a 3 star is because the last time I came I ordered the Omelet, which was small and quite tasteless, especially for $14. I expected much better since the last 2 or 3 meals I had at Calle Ocho were pretty good. The person I came with enjoyed her food, the sangria and the atmosphere. And the service was great.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMI really enjoyed Calle Ocho.I really enjoyed Calle Ocho. The food was really good and they gave you good portion sizes. The service was great! It was tender, tangy, flavorful, and all around perfect. My friend got the paella and really enjoyed it. We ordered sweet plantains on the side and they were cooked perfectly.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, relative to otherGreat food, relative to other brunch places a very very good deal. Sangria is delicious and lots of choices to pick from. There aren't really a ton of brunch options (I think there was one omelet) but the food is still delicious.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMThe meal was very enjoyableThe meal was very enjoyable and the service was excellent. This is a great restaurant for showing visitors a different aspect of NY food.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMA neighborhood delightA Cuban delight on the Upper West Side. Energetic ambience and perfectly timed service for a busy Friday night.
The diverse range of appetizers catered to all our dietary needs and our waiter was at hand with very helpful recommendations. Grilled octopus and the goat cheese were heavenly.
Entrees to our delight were larger than expected with the sea bass deserving a special mention. Dessert was the perfect finish to a wonderful evening overall. We will definitely be back.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat ambiance! We wantedGreat ambiance! We wanted to have the hightly recommended brunch but couldn't swing it during our stay. Luckily we were able to work in dinner! Not tons for vegetarian foodies, but with a little creative ordering we really enjoyed ourselves. Chef Rodney is wonderful and the cuisine is energizing.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMOut of the NormI go to Calle Ocho quite often. This is the second time I have been disappointed in the service. Our waiter was also taking care of two large parties, so he forgot about us. Then he tried to take my plate when I wasn't even half way through my plate. This is out of the ordinary for them, but it left a bad feeling with me.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was delicious, soThe food was delicious, so many flavors. Our waiter was outstanding.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMI think this is my 5th timeI think this is my 5th time going to Calle Ocho and I'm still not disappointed! Food & drinks are great!

The entrees were large and flavorful, and the price makes the meal an excellent value. I would definitely recommend for a fun meal, but it can get loud, so be ready.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMAdding CO to my list of NYC faves!Once we got past the snippy host (an older gentleman), we had a great time! EVERY other staff member we came into contact with was wonderfully friendly and accommodating. (I'm southern and have been a restaurant host, so an overly friendly first face is important to me). We couldn't decide bc everything on the menu looked amazing. So, we chose multiple appetizers as our meal and they did not disappoint. The corn empanada, the spicy Rock shrimp, beet salad and the bacon wrapped dates were all delish! We also enjoyed our margaritas and banana flavored sangria. There was a nice buzz and ambience about the restaurant. I won't hold one little hiccup against them, I highly recommend Calle Ocho!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThank you very much for everything!Thank you very much for everything! The food was great, the drinks nice and strong and we had the best server EVER - Evan. He is a gem! He made sure that all our needs were taken care of and had a most pleasant personality. As service is worth about 50% to me, he more than fulfilled his part. Will be RSVPing for Calle Ocho again very soon. Was excellent!!3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMway too noisy. bad acoustics.way too noisy. bad acoustics.
