Diner Reviews
  • "This place is a wonderful find, the food is wonderful, my only complaint is that the menu changes so you may not find the extra special dish you enjoyed the last time you visited. With that said even with the changing menu items everything we tried we enjoyed. With the warm weather it is a great place to eat outside in their garden, very special and romantic."

  • "We stopped by for a late lunch (3pm-ish) after a 10-mile hike at Mt. St. Helena. The covered patio seating was perfect for our slightly dusty and casual appearance, and gave us more outdoor time. The Inn is next to the creek so the sound of running water adds to a lovely setting. I ordered the brewery's Pilsner-esque blonde and my friend the dark Dugan Stout, both were excellent in taste and served on perfect temperature. Food was typical California cuisine - salads, sandwiches, burgers, all very nicely prepared and tasty but not necessarily inducing a wow-factor. Service was fine. Overall a very pleasant dining experience. Street parking was easy."

  • "Brought friends from out of town and had a nice meal. Food was very good, Lamb Shanks were tender, flavorful and meaty, Minestrone was excellent! Service was lacking, after food was ordered the rest of the time we had servers delivering food (in decent time, hot and correctly which is why I gave a good instead of fair) but had difficulty getting anyone (even with the universal signs of a guest turning around and looking back to where the servers were congregated) to bring our previously ordered wine to accompany our meal. Thank goodness for a busser that we were able to catch in passing. Our waiter came back to ask about desserts and deliver our check but wasn't seen otherwise!"

  • "Nice place to eat. We had Lunch there, on a Friday. The beer and Ale is freshly brewed on the premises. We asked the server to describe the Salmon BLT, the kind of bread, sauce, etc. The name would suggest there is bacon on it, right? He said "It is a sandwich. Salmon between 2 pieces of bread, very simple". Really? We asked about the bacon, and he said we could add bacon if we would like. We looked around for someone else to help - no one to be found. We asked him to verify the preparation. He left, came back with the same answer. We decided to take a chance and split that, as nothing else on the menu tempted us. It came with bacon, and the salmon tasted great - except for the skin they failed to remove. No reason to go back."

  • "What a great place for Valentine's Day. This was not my first choice for the evening, but so glad we ended up here! Our last visit was years ago and where it's always been a good place, it wasn't our favorite, but now, we'll be dining here most every time we visit Calistoga."

  • "The restaurant is remodeled with simple, beautiful decorations. I love the decor. It is a very comfortable and elegant ambiance. The food was amazing! My husband had the lamb shank and I had the rosemary chiken with olives and pansauce over cream polenta. I may just dream about this meal until we go next time. Best meal I've had in a very long time!"

  • "This was a trip we took for Christmas. We could have not asked for a more enjoyable dinner and atmosphere as at the Calistoga Rest. I picked out this place only from what I saw on line and read about it. We were very pleased and will highly recommend to others we know who will be traveling to NAPA Valley."

  • "The ambiance was good, not too crowded. The wine I chose (Old vine Zinfandel was disappointing) it fell flat. The Lamb shank was fair at best but the polenta & baby green beans were delicious. Desert was very good. My first time back since the fire. Remodel looks very good."

  • "The meal we ate at the Calistoga Inn was very good and the service was attentive. The chef was excellent, but the servers needed more training. While they were trying their best, they were just a bit awkward. The place is obviously well-loved by locals and there were several happy, noisy parties going on while we were there. The staff was trying very hard, but I don't think we'll be back."

  • "This place is very lovely and quaint. It doesn't seem to be fit for kids because of the thin walls and hard wood floors that you can hear every step from walking around. I was woken up very early from kids running around in their room next door. Also, the complimentary breakfast would have been awesome if it had some type of protein (such as hard boiled eggs or geek yogurt) for those who wanted a better balanced meal than just carbs. Other than that I loved it! The staff was friendly and helpful."

  • "Choose the location based on the Holiday Tractor Parade, turned out to be a better choi e than I could have hoped for! Staff was lovely, ambiance charming and the food was spot on. The only thing they could have added was to go cups of hot cocoa with peppermint schnapps for the parade ;)"

  • "My wife and I ended up visiting friends in the Bay Area for Thanksgiving, and decided to head up to Napa by ourselves on the actual day of Thanksgiving, which was an excellent decision! Calistoga Inn is a real gem, and our server treated us like family. The menu was excellent (my wife does not prefer turkey, and was ecstatic to have a perfect filet mignon instead) and the wine pairings were as delicious as you might imagine. We were so stuffed after our meal that dessert seemed a bit too much, so we packed our desserts to-go, and enjoyed them thoroughly the next morning with our coffee after sleeping in a bit at our hotel. I highly recommend every couple spend at least one Thanksgiving by yourselves in Napa Valley, we enjoyed every minute!"

  • "Although Calistoga Inn is a favorite for the summer months with the beautiful patio, we had a wonderful winter supper on a cold December evening in the newly remodeled dining room. Started with tasty oysters on the half shell and had a fabulous winter risotto followed by roasted chicken with creamy polenta."

  • "We had Thanksgiving dinner at the Calistoga Inn. I was wonderful. If you are away from home or living there, it is a very nice place to spend a holiday or special event. Everyday dining must be nice too. Thanks to everyone there for making our meal special."

  • "Our group of 5 dined at the Calistoga Inn and Brewery on the last night of our trip to San Francisco and Napa. We were expecting just a casual meal of burgers and beers. We were all extremely pleased and impressed with the setting of the resturant, the service and our meals. Each one of us tried something different, fish, burger, chicken steak and short ribs. Each was excellent. We were happy to spent our last night in California at this wonderful resturant."

  • "Coming out of a fire issue, the Inn has come back strong. There is a large outdoor area which in cool weather is heated with gas touches making it very comfortable. Indoor is equally pleasant and comfortable. The food is great. I had a short rib, with a hosin sauce, fell off the bone delicious, on a bed of potatoes and spinach. My wife had a white fish, very well prepared. The server was knowledgeable and pleasant. He knew his stuff and made the dinner very pleasant. Dessert was a peanut butter pie, new to me but just delicious. The had a great selection of craft beers and Napa wines. We get here about once a year, but it is on next years schedule. Great eating experience."

  • "Outdoor dining next to the Napa River on an Autumn evening was the perfect romantic dinner. The service was excellent and the food was good. What else could you ask for."

  • "We had dinner here on a fairly cool evening and sat outdoors comfortably, courtesy of some strategically placed heaters. We started with the soup of the day - black bean and roasted corn - very delicious - and the dungeness crab cakes which were crispy on the outside and creamy and meaty on the inside. For our main, we had the daily special of halibut served on a bed of roasted vegetables in a yellow curry sauce with basmati rice - the flavours were very Thai and worked well together. The wine list featured a number of excellent local wines by the glass and there were several local micro brews. Best surprise was the live music. An excellent evening."

  • "Loved this place. Hangar steak was delicious. The desserts were outstanding!! The chocolate "ganache" (which I can describe as a thick pudding/fudgy goodness) was one of the most delicious chocolate desserts I have ever had. I had a couple of bites of the peanut butter pie that my wife enjoyed. We both thought it was absolutely outstanding. This place is comfortable, with nice wood floors, and homey. The service was friendly and attentive. I feel fortunate to have dined there. I plan on returning as soon as possible."
