Diner Reviews
  • "We celebrated my father's birthday. The waiter was very nice and accommodating. Food was really good. Scallops were tender but still very tasty. Desert was heavenly. View is absolutely amazing. Our second dinner there. Really nice place! Don't know if a country club would every consider this, but suggesting people not idle out front would be a huge plus."

  • "Good good and great view and never feel rushed-- Consistent high quality of food preparation brings us back over and over. However this time my wife's halibut was a little over cooked."

  • "Everyone enjoyed their dinner entrées. Dessert menu was rather disappointing though, very skipping on selections. Service was outstanding and our server was exceptionally attentive. Will be going back for an Anniversary Celebration soon."

  • "Entrées hasn't change for sometime and their dessert menu is very limited and not very creative or imaginative. Service is always outstanding."

  • "My husband and I were married at Newcastle in 2000 and had come back to celebrate our anniversary. We were very excited to be back, but unfortunately the service ruined the experience. Our server was extremely unfriendly and unhelpful. Even though we were married at Newcastle after this experience I don't know if we will go back."

  • "Enjoyed a lovely evening at Calcutta. They honored my reservation request on time and window seat (on an evening where it was too cool to sit outside). Split the dungenous crab cakes, which were tasty and beautifully prepared. Rockfish entre was a substantial portion, just slightly crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked. Enjoyed a summer special glass of wine. Service was so friendly and attentive. Can't wait to go back."

  • "With the bagpiper, the sunset, the view, the outstanding food, and the expertise of our server, Carolyn, it was one of the best nights ever!"
    Dined on 6/25/2014
  • "Food was good. Service was mixed. Issue seemed to be that there was no single person responsible for looking after our table. We had to ask for bread, drinks were slow, the entree turned up early (before we had chance to ask for wine) and was cold. We had to search out a server to ask for the food to be returned and warmed up."

  • "Great venue for bringing first time guests from out-of-town to show off our beautiful vistas. Dinner was delicious and service was great."

  • "I was actually quite concerned when I saw some negative reviews on both OpenTable and Yelp about this restaurant. I made reservation anyway because I like the great scenic view and I think it will be great for our anniversary. We got a table by the window as I requested when I made my reservation. The overall service is quite good. I felt the staff were trying to do a good job and I think they certainly did. The food we ordered were all great. The crab cake is as good as most of the high end restaurants on the eastside. Smoke salmon chowder was wonderful. Grilled King salmon isn't the best I ever had. But it is good enough. (Maybe my expectation was low after reading some bad reviews.) Lamb Osso Buco is very tender and flavorful."

  • "Attentive service but we never felt like we were being rushed. Some ala carte items ere priced toward the high end, but the specials were a better value.... and very tasty. The staff cooperated in some birthday-related pranks including a gourmet presentation of a fish head. Fun evening."

  • "We have eaten at Calcutta many times and it never fails to please. This time three of us went for a Sunday lunch and a nice touch they have is a complimentary fresh fruit plate for each table. We tried the Sweet Roll this time which was a 6 X 6 piece of heaven. It's great for sharing and would also be a great desert."

  • "The servers were not the best - forgot to bring our soup and had to ask several times for things like dressing that we asked on the side. Was not really busy so not sure why we could not get all right. Food was great though and the view is great."

  • "We've been here on many occasions. They have good food and great views. However, this was by far the worst experience we have has service-wise at any restaurant in a very long time. Things started out OK but the food was slow in coming out and then our waitress virtually ignored us. She did rush by to hold up a dessert menu before dashing off again. She wasn't busy waiting other tables, she was busy preparing the table next to us by decanting wine and setting out limes and bottled water all in advance of a customer who had not yet arrived. While doing that she passed us 8 times without so much as a look. The busboy had to bring us our check and the manager rang the tab after we brought it to the front desk. "

  • "My in-laws were in town for Easter weekend and we were looking for a place to take them for dinner Friday night. The view was amazing and the food delicious!!! We were impressed with the menu and the very attentive waitstaff. "

  • "I first had lunch at the Calcutta Grill and the fish tacos with pineapple salsa were the best I had ever had. They were reasonably priced and very tasty. So I went back for dinner with some friends. Unfortunately, the fish tacos were only available on the lunch menu. The dinner menu was a bit pricier - standard downtown Seattle dining prices but the food was excellent. I had the beet and goat cheese salad ($10) and the Rockfish ($23) with a glass of wine ($10). Although the drive up there is a bit out of the way, the view is spectacular. I will go again."

  • "We had lunch there and it was a beautiful day so the view was incredible. The food wasn't very good though. My sister had the salmon salad and the salmon had been frozen and tasted freezer burned. I had the fish and chips but the breading on fish was tough and pulled off the fish so I had to eat it seperate from the fish and it was rubbery. We were surprisingly disappointed. The restaurant itself is beautiful and the view incredible but the food wasn't as good as it should be for a nice place like that."

  • "We wanted a nice, classy restaurant where our large family could celebrate our Dad's 79th birthday and the Newcastle Golf Course and Calcutta Grill was the first place that came to mind. We arrived to a lovely table in the sun room - which we ended up having to ourselves and it was nice that we could have conversations with each other and also enjoy ourselves without bothering other diners. The service was outstanding, our meals were delicious and our father felt totally celebrated. The staff at Calcutta Grill went above and beyond to make it a truly special occasion for our family."

  • "Too tired to cook we headed up the hill to Newcastle Golf Course. This is a lovely restaurant with delicious food and good service. All three of our meals were perfectly cooked and presented. The fish was not overcooked as mentioned in some reviews, and the steak was rare, just like we ordered. The side dishes were superb. The view was spectacular. We were the last ones in the restaurant and never felt like we were being rushed. I might rate the PUB side of the restaurant with $$, but the restaurant is more $$$. It is worth it."

  • "I ordered the French onion soup and my partner the lobster bisque; both were delicious. My prawns and scallops were amazing, seasoned and cooked just right -- not overdone as often happens with scallops. My partner really enjoyed his steamed lobster. The view from the restaurant is, of course, magnificent. Our waitress, Cindy, was friendly and efficient. This was not our first visit to this restaurant and will not be our last."

  • "First, let me say that I have had good dining experiences here in the past, so though this wasn't one of them, I still like the place. Overcooking King Salmon in a high-priced restaurant is a sacrilege. This restaurant's unparalleled view of the surrounding area makes it a great choice for bringing folks from out-of-town. One of our other iconic attractions is great seafood, and particularly fresh, wild salmon. Any restaurant that cares enough about that to have it on the menu should get it right, and not just for the out-of-towners! On this night they didn't achieve that, requiring a mulligan (it is a golf course setting...).They did get it right the second time and the manager did make amends, but by then we had to take it home in a box."

  • "We booked our reservation on line that morning, and I mentioned it was my husband's birthday. When we arrived a bit early, they were able to seat us right away, and at the window overlookng the golf course, and in the distance Lake Washington and all the way to Seattle. Great view! Our food came quickly and I posted pictures on FB of my husband diving into his very tasty lamb dinner. Then to top it off they brought him a dessert with Happy Birthday written in chocolate on the plate. Perfecto!"

  • "We took our father for dinner to dinner at your restaurant last Sunday evening. He is two weeks shy of 100 years, We had a great time, The food was excellent, as was the service. Too bad the weather was stormy and we had no view. Hope to be back sometime for more food... and a vidw."

  • "We had reservations for Saturday at 10 am, the grill had a few diners, but did get more busy as we ate. I ordered the Cougar Gold Scramble and hubby had the Waffle. Both entrees were excellent, a nice sized portion without being too overwhelming. We received a plate of fruit prior to the entree arriving, and it was also very good. The waffle came with praline butter, which was wonderful addition to the waffle. The pepper bacon was fried well and tasty. The scramble had a nice assortment of mushrooms on top and the cheese in the eggs was perfect. Came with a croissant All in all, we will return. A nice place for breakfast with reasonable prices and spectacular view of the Seattle area."

  • "We had lunch for the first time here after having had brunch and dinner previous times. The view is awesome. The food at lunch was average bordering on not good. Do not have the fish tacos, very bad and the Asian salad was just average. The pumpkin rum tart was fabulous. Service was mediocre at best- tea and water was not filled quickly. They seemed short handed and our server was doing the best she could. I would only recommend for lunch for the view not the food."

  • "We love to bring guest to this country club like restaurant. The view is always calm and beautiful overlooking the golf course with the city skylines and mountains in the back ground. We think the food keeps getting better! The presentation of the meal wals really nice. The service was great. The manager was in constant circulation. I always go here for my birthday ! The little complimentary chocolate cake is to die for!"

  • "My wife and another couple went to this place for Valentines Day dinner. The service was incredibly slow. They we're even working on limited menu which I understand to try and keep things simple, so the service should have been much faster. Took over 2 hours to eat dinner there."

  • "The only reason to come here is the view. The food takes forever which is odd considering it arrives either cold or frozen still on the inside. I've brought people here for breakfast and dinner and both are the same. The service is lousy and the food is worse when you finally get it."
    Dined on 11/29/2013
  • "We've been here many times and it does not disappoint, especially for lunches. There are good choices to choose from - something for all tastes! My friend, visiting from back east, was overwhelmed by the view!"

  • "For as pricey as the menu is, would have thought better service. Also better accommodations for food requests. No salsa available and no alternative was given (like let me ask the chef to dice up some onions and tomatoes for you - I'm sure those things had to be in the kitchen), asked if yogurt came separate from fruit and granola. Was told yes. The fruit was separate but the granola was already mixed in. Took forever to get a second beer - was told had to get a new keg after a reminder some length of time later. Should have given beer on house or offered something. Lots of little things that made the experience just OK and not great.View, as always, was terrific."
