Diner Reviews
  • "We had lunch there and it was a beautiful day so the view was incredible. The food wasn't very good though. My sister had the salmon salad and the salmon had been frozen and tasted freezer burned. I had the fish and chips but the breading on fish was tough and pulled off the fish so I had to eat it seperate from the fish and it was rubbery. We were surprisingly disappointed. The restaurant itself is beautiful and the view incredible but the food wasn't as good as it should be for a nice place like that."

  • "We wanted a nice, classy restaurant where our large family could celebrate our Dad's 79th birthday and the Newcastle Golf Course and Calcutta Grill was the first place that came to mind. We arrived to a lovely table in the sun room - which we ended up having to ourselves and it was nice that we could have conversations with each other and also enjoy ourselves without bothering other diners. The service was outstanding, our meals were delicious and our father felt totally celebrated. The staff at Calcutta Grill went above and beyond to make it a truly special occasion for our family."

  • "Too tired to cook we headed up the hill to Newcastle Golf Course. This is a lovely restaurant with delicious food and good service. All three of our meals were perfectly cooked and presented. The fish was not overcooked as mentioned in some reviews, and the steak was rare, just like we ordered. The side dishes were superb. The view was spectacular. We were the last ones in the restaurant and never felt like we were being rushed. I might rate the PUB side of the restaurant with $$, but the restaurant is more $$$. It is worth it."

  • "I ordered the French onion soup and my partner the lobster bisque; both were delicious. My prawns and scallops were amazing, seasoned and cooked just right -- not overdone as often happens with scallops. My partner really enjoyed his steamed lobster. The view from the restaurant is, of course, magnificent. Our waitress, Cindy, was friendly and efficient. This was not our first visit to this restaurant and will not be our last."

  • "Great food & incredible views at this golf course clubhouse. Prices quite reasonable for what you get"

  • "First, let me say that I have had good dining experiences here in the past, so though this wasn't one of them, I still like the place. Overcooking King Salmon in a high-priced restaurant is a sacrilege. This restaurant's unparalleled view of the surrounding area makes it a great choice for bringing folks from out-of-town. One of our other iconic attractions is great seafood, and particularly fresh, wild salmon. Any restaurant that cares enough about that to have it on the menu should get it right, and not just for the out-of-towners! On this night they didn't achieve that, requiring a mulligan (it is a golf course setting...).They did get it right the second time and the manager did make amends, but by then we had to take it home in a box."

  • "We booked our reservation on line that morning, and I mentioned it was my husband's birthday. When we arrived a bit early, they were able to seat us right away, and at the window overlookng the golf course, and in the distance Lake Washington and all the way to Seattle. Great view! Our food came quickly and I posted pictures on FB of my husband diving into his very tasty lamb dinner. Then to top it off they brought him a dessert with Happy Birthday written in chocolate on the plate. Perfecto!"

  • "We took our father for dinner to dinner at your restaurant last Sunday evening. He is two weeks shy of 100 years, We had a great time, The food was excellent, as was the service. Too bad the weather was stormy and we had no view. Hope to be back sometime for more food... and a vidw."

  • "We had reservations for Saturday at 10 am, the grill had a few diners, but did get more busy as we ate. I ordered the Cougar Gold Scramble and hubby had the Waffle. Both entrees were excellent, a nice sized portion without being too overwhelming. We received a plate of fruit prior to the entree arriving, and it was also very good. The waffle came with praline butter, which was wonderful addition to the waffle. The pepper bacon was fried well and tasty. The scramble had a nice assortment of mushrooms on top and the cheese in the eggs was perfect. Came with a croissant All in all, we will return. A nice place for breakfast with reasonable prices and spectacular view of the Seattle area."

  • "We had lunch for the first time here after having had brunch and dinner previous times. The view is awesome. The food at lunch was average bordering on not good. Do not have the fish tacos, very bad and the Asian salad was just average. The pumpkin rum tart was fabulous. Service was mediocre at best- tea and water was not filled quickly. They seemed short handed and our server was doing the best she could. I would only recommend for lunch for the view not the food."

  • "We love to bring guest to this country club like restaurant. The view is always calm and beautiful overlooking the golf course with the city skylines and mountains in the back ground. We think the food keeps getting better! The presentation of the meal wals really nice. The service was great. The manager was in constant circulation. I always go here for my birthday ! The little complimentary chocolate cake is to die for!"

  • "My wife and another couple went to this place for Valentines Day dinner. The service was incredibly slow. They we're even working on limited menu which I understand to try and keep things simple, so the service should have been much faster. Took over 2 hours to eat dinner there."

  • "2 locals rendevous for lunch with old mutual friend from northstate and felt welcome to stay. until almost 4pm in catching-up talk. good menu and breathtaking panoramic view on a cold, clear winter day"

  • "The only reason to come here is the view. The food takes forever which is odd considering it arrives either cold or frozen still on the inside. I've brought people here for breakfast and dinner and both are the same. The service is lousy and the food is worse when you finally get it."
    Dined on 11/29/2013
  • "We've been here many times and it does not disappoint, especially for lunches. There are good choices to choose from - something for all tastes! My friend, visiting from back east, was overwhelmed by the view!"

  • "For as pricey as the menu is, would have thought better service. Also better accommodations for food requests. No salsa available and no alternative was given (like let me ask the chef to dice up some onions and tomatoes for you - I'm sure those things had to be in the kitchen), asked if yogurt came separate from fruit and granola. Was told yes. The fruit was separate but the granola was already mixed in. Took forever to get a second beer - was told had to get a new keg after a reminder some length of time later. Should have given beer on house or offered something. Lots of little things that made the experience just OK and not great.View, as always, was terrific."

  • "We went for Brunch with good friends. We had a lovely table for 4 in the "sun room" with a great view. We showed up at 12:30 (reservation) and dined until 3:15. The service was super and the staff attentive to what we needed. We would go there again and will. Food was tasty too."

  • "Everything was wonderful except the service. Our server acted annoyed at our presence. I suspect it was because she knew her gratuity was included as our party was over 8 people.. I dont think she smiled once. Besides the service the experience was superb."

  • "A great place for a quiet romantic dinner on a special day. The wine list is decent and the service was excellent. And of course the views are unbeatable."

  • "Pricing is higher than IHOP for brunch or lunch, but you do get the benefit of a great view, well made and presented food, and very niece and attentive servers. We would definitely come back, especially if we want to treat ourselves and / or our friends to something memorable."

  • "The food is always just average, and there are limited choices, however, our family of four enjoys the location and views. We come up to the restaurant for special occasions, at least once or twice a year, and will continue to do so."

  • "We returned to Calcutta Grill for our 38th. Very good meal as usual with a new menu. Somewhat noisy due to a party that got louder as they drank more (I'm guessing). The room has a bit of an echo. Excellent service. Worth the drive."
    Dined on 12/14/2013
  • "This restaurant is best for simple things... they do not have a highly skilled chef or kitchen staff, and the waiters are nice kids with no experience who have really no training..."

  • "The rockfish was overcooked. The service was slow at first. restaurant was not packed so I don't know why. Waiter did not know what to recommend. No cod this time of year. Not enough items on menu at this time."

  • "Spectacular view and wonderful lodge-y decor. Always nice to be here at sunset. Service was uneven. Had to wait more than five minutes for one out of the seven dinners which came late to the table. Very noisy from a wedding going on the the adjacent event room."

  • "We found the Wooly Toad Pub and the Calcutta Grill to be the premier location for dining and social cocktails. Our group of 12 held a formal dinner and everyone loved the elegance, the quality of the cuisine, and the service. +5 Star."

  • "I love this place for special occasions because it is so special itself! The view of the golf course is amazing. The Seattle and Bellevue skylines where in spotlights from the sun. The brunch menu included all my favorites, but I joined a friend in ordering the Coal Creek omelet with generous amounts of black forest ham, bell peppers, green onions and cheese. Another friend enjoyed the Seafood Cobb Salad with shrimp, Dungeness crab and poached prawns. We were all very impressed with our meals. Our waitress was so fun, we asked her to join us, but she continued to take good care of us, even taking keepsake pictures. The class of the country club, food, view, and wait staff made for a very special birthday brunch with great friends!"

  • "The Club is always a good place for a relaxing lunch or dinner. The dntree salads and prime rib dips are great. Omlets are satisfying too."

  • "Perfect fall evening. Unbelievable view. The restaurant unusually quiet for such a nice night. The crabcakes were small and bland. Probably the worst I've ever had. Nothing like a Caesar salad on a warm plate fresh out of the dishwasher. The roast beef was very good, but that was the extent of the evening. I'll go back, but I won't be going back for the food."
    Dined on 10/23/2013
  • "Can't beat the view or the ambiance. Staff is courteous and prompt, but not invasive. Great place to eat on the patio and look at Seattle lights or inside where it is dark and romantic. There are few to no healthy food options and entrees and soups were salty and greasy/oily. Presentation was good and prices moderate. I plan to go back and try the happy hour menu."

  • "Calcutta Grille is always a great bet for a wonderful view, beautiful atmosphere, and good service. I just wish the food lived up to our expectations. The food is always just average, never living up to the atmosphere. If Oki could get the food right, they'd have truly a wonderful gem!"
