Diner Reviews
  • "We first came to Cajun Queen about 18-20 years ago. It has become our family's favorite place to go when we are celebrating a special occasion or birthday. We live in another county, so we make a commitment to travel the 40+ miles to reach the location. We have brought out of town guests, who talk about the experience and the food quality years later. We have never been disappointed in the service, the food or the overall experience. The restaurant has been expanded over the years to add more dining areas and yet it has still maintained the same vibe as the original areas. Thank you."

  • "But we did enjoy our drinks and dinner any way, even though our waitress seemed so disinterested in us."

  • "I frequent Cajun Queen often and the food was excellent as usual. BBQ Shrimp is my favorite."

  • "I wanted live music and was enthusiastic about going. Although our entrees were awesome, everything else was subpar. The music, the non entrée items (like the appetizers and bread) and the service were just ok."

  • "Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable." I had the shrimp and grits and it was really good. The flavor was really nice. My husband had the blackened fish and it was good but could have been seasoned a little more on both sides. Well should I say seasoned before cooking so that the flavor was inside as well as outside. I also heard my neighbors conversation saying that it needed a little more season."

  • "We really enjoyed our dinner at Cajun Queen. We had 3 children and were not treated out of place at all. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was amazing from the shrimp and grits to the steak with crawfish étouffée. Also the bourbon pecan pie was to die for! The jazz band showed up just as we were starting on desert and it was just really enjoyable."

  • "The food is awesome and I always enjoy eating there. The only issue this time was that I felt we were rushed through our meal. The main course was delivered while we were still eating our appetizers and salads. The waitress kept hovering over us and stopping by every 10 minutes."

  • "My wife and I have been here several times and we always enjoy the food. We always sit upstairs and enjoy the live jazz but we were seated downstairs this time. Despite at least 4 speakers in the room where we were seated, there was no music. It was a bit awkward hearing everyone's conversations and having them hear ours. Unfortunately this time the service was terrible. Our waiter must have had an awful day before we arrved because he was miserable. It kind of ruined the whole experience for us. We were envious of tables nearby who were getting great service from other waiters. At least we still enjoyed the food."

  • "My fiance and I were staying in the Uptown and I found Cajun Queen on Opentable. I LOVE spicy food so I knew by looking at the menu that I would love it...and my fiance loves red beans and rice so I knew he would be happy as well. We weren't disappointed. I had the Shrimp Etouffee; which was deliciously spicy. Next time I'll ask to have the rice and gravy separated because I don't like my food saturated; otherwise, it was great. My fiance had the Wash Day Blues and I heard no complaints...lol. The atmosphere is nice and the staff is sweet. We will definitely be dining there again."

  • "While we were dissapointed one of our diners could not have the pork chop they ordered because the chef was not pleased with the way the pork looked, Cajun Queen did comp that meal since the replacement came out long after the rest of the parties food. Unfortunately the shrimp and grits was sub-par. The blackened shrimp was singed and tasted overly smokey, much like eating charcoal. No one at the table was able to eat them. The grits and sausage in the dish was great. Everyone else's meals were wonderful, the BBQ shrimp, and blackend chicken pasta special were properly cooked and tastey."

  • "The food was good. The tables are too close together for really a romantic evening."

  • "The food is so good! That's what keeps us coming back all the way from South Carolina. Our server was also terrific. When I let her know I had a gluten intolerance she told the chef and he made a special sauce for my steak that was flourless (and delicious!)"

  • "This is the first time I have been to the restaurant on a weeknight. It was not as crowded and a littler quieter than the weekends. The staff was friendly and enthusiastic. The food was delicious as always!"

  • "Conjures up images of New Orleans in a friendly neighborhood setting. The house has a lot of charm and the food is on a par with many of the fine dining establishments in the "Big Easy." The dining areas are pretty crowded with little space between tables, but after all space here is at a premium. Service is good and food arrived very quickly after we placed our order. The blackened dishes are very good. We will definitely be going back and would highly recommend a visit to anyone looking for something a bit out of the ordinary in Charlotte."

  • "Took my daughter here for brunch for her birthday. Purposely booked right after thy opened so not so crowded. The food was awesome as usual and the service was outstanding. Because they weren't as busy as dinner it was very relaxing and we didn't feel rushed or overwhelmed by so much noise. My daughter loved it and we all had a great time!"

  • "we had a good experience with Cajun Queen,as always, we have been there several times...the food was great...and the service good..this is the 3rd time I used open table to book our reservation and it finally worked...the other 2 times I called day of to check our reservation and there was none...We got frustrated and didn't book Cajun Queen for that reason , gave it another chance... Thank goodness for valet. parking. one thing....when we were being seated, the hostess took us to these very small table in the front room, and we felt very uncomfortable , no room to move....and there were plenty of tables on the enclosed patio..so we asked to be moved....and after we were seated, they seated other party of 2's in the patio section"

  • "Food was delicious. We had the chicken Diane which was fantastic, very flavorful and the biscuits and gravy which was also very good. The service was great but they really need to do an overhaul of the decor, old, drab and tired."

  • "Food is always great as well as the great service. Nice to have valet parking now as it was raining cats and dogs on our visit."

  • "This was my second time there so I was excited to come back. We booked reservations but we showed up an hour early so we were OK with going to the bar and wait. However it took the Bartender 20 Minutes to even acknowledge us. It then took an additional 10 minutes to order our drinks and when we received the drinks they were disgusting. We were then escorted to our table where we had to wait 45 minutes to receive our food. The waiter said the kitchen was slammed with orders all at once. The food came to the table lukewarm. I then asked for to go boxes and left for the evening."

  • "We had dinner before a show at CPCC. We left extra time for dinner before the show but it was not needed as the service was quick without sacrificing the quality of the food. Very much enjoyed the valet parking since it was raining very hard when we left."

  • "I went with my family for my birthday and the food was awesome as always. The BBQ shrimp are the best shrimp dish in town. The gumbo appetizer was nice and the blackened filet (medium rare) was perfectly cooked. My wife had the crawfish Etouffe and my son had the chicken Diane. My other son had the blackened ribeye, which was also cooked perfectly (medium rare). It would have been great to hear the jazz band or other entertainment, but it was a Thursday night and I wasn't expecting much in that regard. I made a side comment about my birthday when ordering drinks and the waitress brought a very nice bourbon cake dessert out after our meal. I was impressed that she caught it and followed up on it. Overall, a great meal and dining experience."

  • "The restaurant is very casual dining. You can dress up for your own fun night out, most of the patrons are in jeans, etc. The food is pretty good. The menu could have a few more options, particularly on the appetizer section. We didn't really look at the wine list. We had a combination platter of catfish/blackened chicken and red beans and rice. Very good and lots of food. Easily fed the 2 of us and we almost could have had leftovers (small amount). The bourbon pecan pie was good with a nice twist. The service was slightly slow, not sure if the wait staff was a little undermanned but not really a big deal. I think normally service is quicker. very happy with cajun queen."

  • "Love this place. Have been quite a few times now, and on this visit I experimented more with their specials, rather than just the standard Cajun items, and I really enjoyed the pork chops and gumbo. Food here is always excellent!"

  • "We always go to Cajun Queen. However we were somewhat disappointed this time...service was not up to par, soup never came out, we had to repeatedly ask for refills."
    Dined on 6/23/2014
  • "Had a very good experience. Took the specials and richly rewarded. The pasta with presto was creamy but light. The salmon was perfectly done. It is a little close with tables packed together but it was OK since several other reviews mentioned the noise level."

  • "This was my first time going to the Cajun Queen, an dI took my 14 year old daughter as a special dinner for her birthday. The food was delish and the service was great. We had shrimp and Grits and the Chicken Diane, both were awesome and we are already planning our next trip to the Cajun Queen~!"

  • "Cajun Queen was a good spot. The food was good, there is a band upstairs and it does get a little noisy. But the band was good and the vibe is a down home New Orleans type of place. Not ideal for a date, but good for groups (ladies or guys night out)."
    Dined on 6/20/2014
  • "Cajun Queen definitely met my expectations as far as the taste and quality of their food. Everything was delicious (even though the buns were kinda hard), all of the staff was friendly and it was a great experience. We will definitely be returning."

  • "I requested an area of the restaurant where the least amount of patrons were seated. We were placed by several tables of persons dining and one table's conversation was extremely loud. It is my guest the only or quietest place at the restaurant was where we were placed. It was not a very good experience for a Sunday afternoon early dinner. We did enjoy the food anyway!"

  • "We attend the HeroesCon each year in Charlotte. The highlight of the visit is our trip on Sunday night to the Cajun Queen. My husband went on a business trip to New Orleans a few years ago and said nothing he ate there compared to the Cajun Queen. He always gets the Etouffe and I always get the Diane. I made reservations for a party of 8 and we were seated promptly. (I like the new valet parking!) Our waitress was fantastic, having to handle quite a few of our questions and interesting requests. She never faltered and never forgot a thing. The food was sublime. Everyone was chatty and loud until the food came then the hush fell over our table as we all tucked in. I'm sad we never have room for dessert! You owe it to yourself to visit. YUM!"

  • "On June 23, my fiancé, his sister, and I enjoyed a nice dinner at The Cajun Queen. The combination Étouffée was phenomenal. We were visiting and heard wonderful things about this restaurant so we just had to try it out. We were not let down."

  • "We had an AWESOME time at the Cajan Queen. The food was delicious and the portions of food was great. We enjoyed the live band playing it was just a fun atomsphere. The wait staff was friendly and knowlegable. I was very impressed that when we arrived we were taken right to our table. I used the reservation program Open Table and that was great to be seated so promptly. We will definitely go back again soon."

  • "The food and service were good but sadly nothing remarkable. I would expect a nicer and cleaner interior for the high price of the food. I wasn't impressed because of this. You can definitely get the same priced meal at way nicer places around town. Very quick bar service and decent drinks. I recommend the sazerac."

  • "We were a party of four and I must say that the food is excellent. The band upstairs was very enjoyable, and overall we had a very good time. However, they need to hire more wait staff. The ones there are seriously overworked, and just can not handle the volume of guests. This is a bit sad, because it does take the shine off a stallar evening when your wine is brought to the table half way through the meal...We had to remind the waitress about serval issues. She was very nice, and I don't want to come down on her, she just needed some help..."
