Diner Reviews
  • "They have way too many tables crammed together. Waiter could hardly get between them to wait on customers. Noise level was so loud I couldn't hear anything being said at my own table. My husbands steak had to be sent back because it was cooked wrong. But the food was excellent. Everything we order tasted great. The service was outstanding. Loved the fact that I could valet park. Would go back but probably only for special occasions. Not someplace I would want to go to every week."

  • "When we arrived to the restaurant we were seated promptly. A server came over with our silverware, did not greet or smile at us, poured our water as well. My boyfriend looks at me and states no personality, I agreed and hoped he wasn't our server. Good thing he wasn't but it turned out we hadan eexcellent server. Other than that hiccup we had a great dinner and it was my boyfriends first time there and he loved the birthday dinner."

  • "If your looking for a nice spot to eat that's not franchised but tastes great you are looking for Cajun Queen! It located next to a beautiful park so after dinner or before you can take a stroll! The service is great, the drinks are good, the food is delicious and it gives you that whole New Orleans vibe with the decor and music! You won't be disappointed...give it a try!"

  • "The service was terrible! My husband and I did not feel welcomed! We were never greeted by our waiter! He was very rude and it seemed like he hated being at work that night! He tossed our bread and check on the table. The resturant was very nice but a little noisey."

  • "This restaurant is reliable and is an opportunity to sample Cajun food without traveling to New Orleans. The service is good even when the restaurant is crowded, which is most often the case on weekends. The manager/owner is always visible, the portions are large, and the experience is always good. It is difficult for diners to remember they are not the only person(s) in the restaurant and patience is required. It is highly irritating to me as a Charlottean to have some viewers always put down Charlotte's restaurants, referring to them (restaurants) as second class to restaurants in their previous hometown. A review should be a review of the restaurant reviewed, not a comparison of the restaurant to one in NYC or San Francisco, etc."

  • "Come here quite often and it never disappoints. We usually sit near the jazz which is always a nice touch to go along with excellent cajun food and a glass of wine."

  • "Depending on what time you are eating, you may have a quiet and relaxing dinner or an energetic evening while the live jazz band plays! Both are GREAT experiences. If you want to watch the band while you eat, ask to sit upstairs. All of the food is delicious but if you like Cajun spice you MUST order the BBQ shrimp appetizer! The wait staff is very attentive---filling your water glass, bringing you more fresh made rolls, etc. ---you will want for nothing. This is my favorite restaurant in Charlotte! Did I say that you MUST have the BBQ shrimp?"

  • "My toughest decision is what to get..because it's also tasty. Love the gumbo, shrimp and grits, Diane, husband loves the creole and jambalaya It's not ideal for kids as it's a smaller old house, but very unique..kids seem to not be controlled and it takes away from the intention of being a great rest. And yes, I have 2 kids, but they know how to sit and keep their voices down. So don't bash me ;) Parking has become easier with the complimentary valet"

  • "On this visit the high spot was the server as she was very good, attentive but not intrusive; food was good as it usually is,I tried a different menu item and while good was below my expectations; were seated in the main dining room which I would not recommend as the noise level is "energetic" to the point of making it difficult to carry on a conversation. My wife commented on the way there that it would be nice to go out for a quiet dinner, but it was anything but quiet...believe that we will take a break from CQ for a while."

  • "I was very disappointed in the food, portions and price. I will not be visiting this establishment again"

  • "I have been to Cajun Queen 5 times and Sunday was the 6th time. I made ordered the Creolcwith Chicken and I am in love I want that for dinner every night! Perfect meal!"

  • "I have been to Cajun Queen a handful of times over the past 20 years and their food is fabulous. The thing that stood out was the jump in prices, as the menu selections have increased an average of $5-$7 per meal. That is a pretty steep jump, and you're not getting any more food for the buck. If I am going to eat spicy food, may I recommend the waitstaff bring a carafe of water. My spouse and I ran out of water many times throughout the night and the waitstaff did not frequent our table nearly enough. What used to be a night out that ran $40 for a couple now exceeds $70 with tip at the Cajun Queen....and that was with only one alcoholic beverage each. The "courtesy" valet parking is a nice touch, but still costs another $5."

  • "I have lived in this area pretty much my entire life and never eaten at Cajun Queen. It was SOOOOO delicious! We went for my mom's birthday dinner with extended family-so there was 11 of us. We made reservations and we were seated immediately! Everything was good from the jazz band down to the last bite. The plates were huge so there was plenty left over for lunch the next day. We will definitely be going back!"

  • "Manager, serving staff, guys in the band (Thursday/Saturday) are all welcoming. I love "showing off" CQ to new friends, partially due to great food - favorite is Crawfish Etoufee , but the fish dishes look great, too. Grits, grilled andouille and fried oysters are great sides. I always have at least one Dixie beer for "old times sake" - authentic New Orleans favorite, but Copper on draft is really better. CQ is also a good value. It seems that there are CQ "groupies" - regular clients, and I've been seated near some of the same folks...brief conversations take place about how much we love CQ. Son raved about recent brunch - "Best Brunch Ever!" Wish guy clients would tuck in their shirt tails...this isn't New Jersey, thank God!"

  • "Food was great! Very noisy - hard to carry on conversation. Waiter was pretty much "heads down", not real engaging."

  • "Kept hearing great things about this place... The food was fine but nothing special, yet it was pretty expensive. Fried oysters were great but I was disappointed by the entrees. Not bad but not worth the crowds/wait/hassle. Service staff was very nice though."

  • "The best Cajun food you will find anywhere...! You will not be disappointed!!!"

  • "Appetizers were wonderful; popcorn crawfish and fried green tomatoes! I had creole shrimp and my husband had blackened catfish with broccoli and mashed potatoes with a great spicy Cajun sauce. We shared a nice piece of bourbon pecan pie. I recommended Cajun Queen for our group's monthly get-together. There were eight of us and everyone had nice things to say about the delicious food, wonderful service, and lively atmosphere. The band upstairs was an authentic New Orleans touch! Been here many times, never disappointed."

  • "I've eaten here twice, and both times the food was terrific. I love the crawfish étouffée, the BBQ shrimp appetizer is out of this world, and the bourbon bread pudding is delicious! The restaurant does get noisy when it's busy, but that's kind of part of its quirky charm. One night we caught the live jazz and really enjoyed the band."

  • "Good food with fair portions. The Cajun Popcorn was awesome. The entrees were presented well and tasted as good as they looked. We were on an impromptu date and this did the trick. My only complaint would be how close the tables are to each other. You can hear everyone's conversations quite clearly."

  • "If you are looking for some really great Cajun food this is the place to go, it's been in Charlotte for years and the food is is always great. Don't forget to order the Bread Pudding for dessert! If you are planning to speak to speak to your dinner companion then DON'T eat upstairs, although the music is great it's very loud and you can't hear your friends."

  • "The food here is awesome. If you like spicy Cajun food, get the étouffée. It's expensive, but worth it. It's a converted old house, so it's not real roomy inside. Don't plan an intimate conversation; you are likely to be overheard. They have some great cocktails and a decent wine list, but the real star is the food!"

  • "Interesting enjoyable drinks We miss the Cajun Queen alligator on the bench outside. It seemed like it was a landmark even though we are relatively new to the area. It is a fun place to take out of town guests. We enjoy the New Orleans music, but difficult to talk in upstairs dining room."

  • "The food is absolutely amazing. I always get the Diane with crawfish and shrimp and it never disappoints. You must try to get a reservation upstairs as the jazz music along with your meal creates a wonderful ambiance. I highly recommend this place, it is definitely one of my favorites!!"

  • "Good overall experience, but it's loud. My wife and I went to dinner with another couple. The amount of people in one room creates a lot of noise."

  • "We were a couple minutes late for our reservation and they were clearing / setting up our table as we arrived. We had to wait 2 minutes for our table which worked out perfect because we were able to talk to Tim, the GM. Told him it was our first visit to Cajun queen. TIm was kind enough to send out fried oysters and BBQ shrimp for our table of 4 to enjoy. Both were delicious. My wife and I had shrimp etouffee and crawfish etouffee. We loved the food and the overall experience. Will definitely go back."

  • "Booths are a bit cramped and need to be spaced out a bit more. I was forced to talk to my neighbor because I was sitting int her lap almost. Took away from my one on one dinner with my friend. Food and service was excellent. The stairs going down was also scary after having a drink or two."

  • "Great place to have a drink and delicious Cajun food while listening to a jazz band. Make a reservation and choose to sit upstairs for the action. Attentive service and large portions."
