Diner Reviews
  • "Love the pasta here, all of them are great! The steak was a lil burnt tho'...and we missed our usual server."

  • "The ambience and the service are welcoming. We shared the burrata and prosciutto appetizer and each had a delicious, fresh pasta. It's hard to make a choice here because the whole menu sounds so tasty. Definitely coming back."

  • "While I vaguely knew about this restaurant in the Historical Society, I had never thought to try it. I'm glad I did! It has sophistication, wonderful food, and excellent service. Pricey but worth it."

  • "Good place to have a bite after spending time in the museum. Great service."

  • "My original glass of wine tasted like the bottle had been left open for several days. My entree - roasted chicken - had so much salt on the skin that any bites including skin weren't really edible. I didn't want to send a second thing back, so I just dealt with it. At prices like this ($13 for a salad, most entrees ~$30) I expect more, even in NYC."

  • "I ate here for lunch and had the Duck Pappardelle..they were delicious and would recommend..the interior is nice with statues, etc. and lemon colored banquettes.. the only downside is that it was quite noisy as the caffe is located in the Historical Society Center and there is a lot of hustle and bustle ..maybe not the place to go if you want a quiet lunch."

  • "Even on Children's Day, children all around, we had a nice and tasty lunch, declining dessert as we were appreciative of the food consumed. Love the coffee!"

  • "never disappoints. The cod and a side of mushrooms is really amazing!"

  • "Ambiance and service are great, but the food is mediocre and the kitchen needs help."

  • "I had eaten here before and had a lovely meal so went back and was very disappointed. After having spent ten minutes with the menu and settling on the two been items that I wished, I was advised my our waitress that neither of these was available (information that would have been far more helpful when the menus were provided). I struggled with the balance of the menu because I'm vegetarian, and when I explained this to our waitress, she left, saying she would give us "some more time" with no effort to assist or help me try and select something suitable. The service overall was lacklustre, which seems far below average when compared with other New York restaurants."

  • "Caffé Storico never ceases to please whenever I go there. The food is always tasty and the service is terrific. I am usually on a tight schedule and they are especially sensitive to that. It is an great choice if you are going to be at the NY Historical Society or the Museum of Natural History."

  • "My husband and I absolutely love this restaurant. The food is always excellent and a very good mix of traditional and a little adventurous. they also vary their menu periodically during the year--each menu being equally delicious and fun. Whenever we have family or special friends visiting from outside NYC, we always bring them to Storico for dinner and every person has thanked us profusely as they eat every bit of food. Additionally, the service continues to be extremely professional--friendly but not obsequious/efficient but not hovering. Storico will continue to be one of our absolute favorite restaurants."

  • "We had an early dinner and just had appetizers, which were excellent--the brusssel sprouts, grilled octopus, and ricotta salad, and crostini. But our experience was marred by our brusque and rude waitress who seemed very annoyed that we didn't want seconds on our drinks or order main courses, even though the two appetizers we each ordered were the same price as a main course for each of us."

  • "I have eaten at Caffe Storico numerous times and always have a satisfying experience. The atmosphere is bright and cheerful, the staff is solicitous, the food is consistently good. Prices are reasonable. Great to have this choice in the neighborhood."

  • "Visiting this restaurant right after a program at New Your Historical Society. Nice, modern ambiance, with excellent and attentive service. Enjoyed the evening very much."

  • "I am sorry to report that the quality of this lovely lovely space/restaurant has declined since first opening. The food was very good i the beginning but is only passable as of our last experience. We had the skate dish which was very unappealingly presented and tasted so so. My daughter's bolognese was better but not great. Lack robustness that a bolognese should have. The small dishes with big prices can be annoying since the quality can be lacking. And here to fore the service had always been outstanding, but I had to flag down the waitress three times to get something and the place was maybe 1/5th full. Very sad and disappointed because I LOVE the space, so lovely and appealing. I'm hoping it has a killer brunch menu."

  • "We love the white-on-white, high ceiling look of Caffe Storico, and its vintage plates and serving pieces. It's a unique, interesting setting! Lots of small plates and a great variety of pastas and main courses with an Italian theme. We've eaten here many times and always enjoyed the experience."

  • "Wanted an UWS spot that could accommodate four women with defined tastes getting together for dinner after not seeing each other for some time. One of the women had been to the restaurant before for lunch, and was not overly enthusiastic; she was willing to give dinner a try. We were ALL delighted with the experience! Staff was friendly and open, food selections were inventive and distinctive, and the room was beautiful. Very impressed with the flavors and presentation of food. Those who live in NYC area said they had a new go-to place on UWS. Highly recommended."

  • "Just before visiting the NY Historical Society Museum, we dined at Caffe Storico for lunch. I was delighted and charmed by the decor, ambiance and service but was really knocked out when I was served my entree salad which was very large, beautiful, and delicious. It was an unexpected pleasure to have such a good lunch in a cafe within a museum. And I would say the price was not bad at all. It made for a very special occasion for me and my out of town guest."

  • "The room is attractive, but the "open" kitchen area, which is loud and not attractive, greatly detracts from the ambiance. I don't need to hear cooks yelling at each other and banging pans around when eating out. The food was all good (although pasta overcooked) at brunch, and cocktails were nicely done. The prices are a little high for brunch on the UWS. Service was polite and professional, but sometimes our server was hard to find and I noticed that adjacent tables were frustrated. I was hoping to find a new neighborhood spot that would become a favorite, but it didn't happen on this occasion. "

  • "The chopped salad was very ordinary. There was a lot of it, and it was great we could share it. But there was no style to the presentation. The Duck Ragu and the Pasta with Calabrian Chili were excellent. The ceilings are a bit too tall for the space. The plates are cute, but since you are in a museum, would have been nice to see instead some gold framed paintings or pieces/reproductions from the museum with changing displays/. The ambience while pleasant could have been anywhere....nothing to indicate that you were in a museum with beautiful collections. The restaurant should encourage visits to the museum. The statue of Frederick Douglas was a nice welcome....but perhaps some information on Frederick Douglas would have been nice. "

  • "We began with the Burrata & Roasted Baby Carrots, a tasty salad with the fresh mozzarella and proceeded to a delectable Prosciutto San Daniele Panini and Grilled Chicken Panini. Topped it off with coffee which was good. The decor was very bright and cheery, like sitting in someone's kitchen with the plates displayed around the room and wood wainscoting all around. Lacked a lot of sound absorbing material making it somewhat noisy when filled. Our waiter was very helpful in choosing appropriate foods for my "salt-challenged" companion, and since it was slow at the end of our dining, was able to chat up about the exhibit and museum."

  • "Beautiful setting and very nice menu and preparation was totally outweighed by indifferent and almost rude service from waitstaff and totally unprofessional and distracted hostess. They should all get lessons from the team that brought food to tables who seemed to be the only ones who received any "customer" service training."

  • "Everything about this restaurant is delightful, but it is very difficult to have a conversation without straining to hear and be heard especially if you're at a table for two. "

  • "Particularly convenient to events at the NY Historical Society. The grilled octopus and the asparagus apps are worth tasting. Can be noisy."

  • "Rarely do you find such a lovely room in a museum restaurant. And the food is excellent. It has obviously been discovered as it was very full when we were lunched recently."

  • "I had a relaxed meal with my husband and my parents here following a lecture at the NY Historical society. The service was friendly (I will forgive tap water being poured into my sparkling water - and then being charged for the sparkling water - just this once) and the food was quite well constructed and satisfying. I liked that we weren't hurried through, and although the fit-out is a bit twee it is relaxed and uncontrived. "

  • "The dining room was so pleasant to sit in that I'd come back for that alone. Large, all white, bright yellow trim and huge windows beaming in sunlight and a view of the greenery on 79th. Everyone in our party commented on how relaxed and comfortable they felt in the space. We ate off the lunch menu. Available entrees for lunch that day were spaghetti and meatballs, and a burger. The food was "good." Perfectly prepared, but nothing mind blowing. That being said they're also not charging mind-blowing prices! I would absolutely return to eat off the dinner, or brunch menu, or even just to enjoy a drink after hanging out in Central Park."

  • "Caffe Storico used to be an unknown gem, but savvy Upper West Siders have found it and fill it. No wonder. We could use about ten more in the neighborhood. Meanwhile, we have this one to love. I brought California friends for lunch on this occasion, and they loved it too."

  • "Same boring menu. It hardly changes. Handy if you are going to the museum."

  • "Going out on Mother's Day is good for mom but you have to expect the restaurants won't be tip-top since they are totally slammed. Our experience at Caffe Storico was great food, ambience exciting, but the service was a bit off. I will give the restaurant a pass on that one given how insanely busy they were. I would definitely return. Fun brunch menu with unusual dishes. Great atmosphere. They were very accommodating and gracious of our grand-daughter's stroller and equipment. Lots of young families in the restaurant with grandmoms with similar stuff so I think they did a more than reasonable job dealing with all of that. I would definitely take the time to enjoy this caffe."

  • "i can't say enough good things about this place. from the person who takes reservations to the wait staff, everyone conspires to make your experience as wonderful as possible. i love the food, i had pasta carbonara for brunch and it was perfect. light and cheesy at the same time. i have been for brunch and dinner and it feels like a different room each time. in a good way. in the evening romantic and intimate and airy and open for brunch. a wonderful find!! "

  • "My husband and I were celebrating our third anniversary and decided to book here for dinner. We need to come here more! Great atmosphere, view overlooking the Museum of Natural History, yummy food. The Papardalle (sp?) was fantastic. My husband had the Branzino and loved it. It seems to have a good mix of regulars and people celebrating something. "

  • "This is our 'GO TO" spot at the New York Historical Society. The room is lovely and inviting with high ceilings and (mostly) pure white plates decorating the walls. Service is prompt and friendly. Food is invariably delicious. Their prix-fixe menu at $28 is a winner. "

  • "We had 2 pasta dishes at lunch (duck ragu and artichoke mezzaluna) and both were terrific. Also ate brunch on a Sunday and it was well executed. The restaurant is noisy, but not at ear-shattering levels. Friendly, helpful service. A winner!"

  • "We enjoyed our lunch very much. Prices were not too expensive - not much more than what we pay for a comparable meal at home. Decor is very nice - particularly like the display of white dishes. Perfect place after visiting the museum. Also good location for dining from outside if you don't have to pay admission if you are not going to the museum. Enjoyed our meal."
