Pretty, pretty space. Good food and wine. Love that it is open long after the Historical Society (where it is housed) closes. My only issue was that there was loud background music, something that irritates me in fine dining settings.

While the space is visually pleasing, we did not have a good experience. With a reservation made a week ahead, we arrived on time. There were two vacant corner tables, one with other people's coats hanging over it and one without. When we asked for the unobstructed table the very haughty hostess told us no, that was reserved by someone who worked at the museum and knew which table to reserve. No, "I'll move the coats", no attempt to make us feel welcome. During the entire time we were there, the table was empty. Service was confused- wait staff stood along the walls while one man seemed to be in charge of all the tables. I ordered polenta with talegio and mushrooms. No cheese, dry stiff flavorless polenta. My husband's pasta was over salted. We will go elsewhere on our next visit to Historical Soceity.

I've been to this restaurant for lunch and thought it was very good. After an event at the Historical Society, the restaurant cannot handle the large number of guests who arrive at the same time.

When the New York Historical Society renovated, they added this fantastic Venician-inspired restaurant. You really need to know it's in there, as it's not visible on the street. But inside, there are soaring white 'cabinets', big windows and high ceilings all creating a welcoming space for delicious fresh pastas, panini's, salads and more. Great wine list too!

With a very distinctive and pretty room, this is one of the places in the hood that has good service, good food and great ambiance. I think they suffer a bit from a lack of street presence, and some may find the fact that the restaurant is a "museum cafe" off-putting, but this is one of my go-to places for a nice meal. Service was very attentive and food tasty, and nicely presented.

Cafe Storico is a welcomed respite from the Natural Museum's cafeteria scene. I've dined here with a large group, and alone at the bar. Duck Ragout on fresh pappardelle pasta or a juicy burger with warm herbed potato chips, it's all delicious.

some things - the grilled octopus salad and the polenta cubes - were quite good; other things - the cod (claimed to be day boat cod but tasted like overcooked bacalao) and the woodhen mushrooms - missed the mark. We told the waitress when she asked how we liked the meal but unfortunately she became quite defensive. We didn't mean to be critical, just responded honestly

For the Upper West Side, the food stands out for both its quality and reasonable price. The service was erratic and disorganized: plates breaking, wrong dishes being brought, being checked on three times in the span of 6 minutes, then nothing for 25. If I lived in that area, I would come back based on the merit of the food, however I would never make it a point to go out of my way to eat there.

During a recent visit to New York, we had lunch at Caffe Storico following a visit to the NY Historical Society. We so enjoyed that meal--a pasta with lobster and a grilled chicken salad plate--we returned for Saturday brunch. Food is creative but not too tarted up, and it is nicely presented. For lunch, the pasta with lobster was excellent, and a grilled chicken salad plate was fresh and satisfying. The steak and eggs and a spinach frittata were both good at brunch. It's a bright, light welcoming space.

Storico in the New York Historical Society offers a wonderful place for lunch in a neighborhood that isn't full of great restaurants. The setting is beautiful: white walls with shelves full of sets of old china. Large picture windows look over the Museum of Natural History. And after lunch, visit the museum which was renovated a few years ago, and always has interesting special exhibitions. You don't have to pay admission to the museum to eat in the café.

Menu had a nice selection from small plate to full meals. We had polenta pyramid, Panzanella Salad, Frutti Di Mare, roasted brussel sprouts. All were excellent. Panzanella salad was my favorite. Homemade croutons crunchy but marinated, and the buratta was delicious. Food came out in a timely manner, waitress was just barely okay. Never asked if we wanted another glass of wine or more water, seemed to not really care. Saturday at 6pm, there were only 5 other tables full. Atmosphere is "fresh and bright." Would recommend and revisit.

This restaurant is in the NY Historical Scy. It is architecturally interesting and beautiful with soaring ceilings, an all-white decor featuring lovely woodwork and porcelain plates from the society's collection. Our server was absolutely delightful -- very knowledgable about the wine selections and a perfect server. The food was delicious. I did not give it the highest stars because this is NYC after all. The grilled branzino and rigatoni were repaired to perfection. The restaurant is a happy place with happy people, so expect a certain amount of noise as the kitchen is open to the dining area.

Caffe Storico is a cheerful place designed for ladies who lunch. The hostess just stared at me when I entered at 1pm. I had to ask if she worked there because she looked like a patron, just dumpier. Lousy service until it was time to hurry our party along due to a special event scheduled for 2:45. OpenTable should have indicated this event when I made the reservation as we were considerably rushed. Food was mediocre. The linguine was really spaghetti, the frittata was rubbery and our server was overly eager to clear our plates which we clearly hadn't finished. No time for coffee or dessert as it was obvious we were no longer welcome. The wine was good although server didn't have a clue about the wine list. Not a great experience.

Welcoming, charming and bright. Tall ceilings make it airy but noise level for lunch made conversation difficult. Service attentive. Ricotta and toast starter was tasty but skimpy amount. Sandwiches were delicious , size was ok for N.Y price. Panzanella salad was skimpy overpriced- toasts in this bread salad should NOT be croutons. Dessert was lovely& all around classic. I'd go again when at the museums- but not with a group I'd like to converse with. Noise was a problem.
