Diner Reviews
  • "I had been wanting to go to Cafe Luna ever since I moved to the Raleigh area. It had been on my bucket list of restaurants in Raleigh for a while, and I finally got to eat there last weekend. It was well worth the wait!! The service and food were just outstanding! Since I wanted the whole experience, we made sure to appetizers, salads, entrees, and dessert! All of it was out of this world tasty! The service was very professional. We had our main waitress always checking up on us, but others helped her out as well. Felt like a well oiled machine. Love the whole experience!"

  • "The food was good but thought for the price that it should have been exquisite. The design of the restaurant is unique and the atmosphere comfortable and welcoming."

  • "The food, service and accommodation of the staff (we were late for our reservation, but I called to let them know) was excellent. It is very noisy and we had trouble hearing each other while we ate."

  • "Had a great dinner for two there the other night and was very pleased with the food, service and price. I would go back"

  • "We road the R-line and got off at Marbles which is very convenient as that stop is just a rooms the street from Cafe Luna. We were a few minutes late on a Saturday night but our nice round table by the front door was held for us. There was a full crowd and the restaurant was noisy but the round table made conversation among our party of 6 OK. The food was greatand the specials were excellent. The fresh pasts were especially good. The wine is moderately priced and prices by the glass are reasonable $6.50-$7.50 for good quality wine with good pours."

  • "Made a reservation via Open Table. Fabulous greeting from owner and hostess. Our server was very personable and helped us make great wine and meal selections. Atmosphere was very lively! Food was fabulous as usual! Love when owner stops by to check on everything! One of our favorites!"

  • "Pasta special was excellent. My only complaint is the small wine glasses they use for red wines. Our server was most excellent."

  • "I have been selecting Café Luna for most of my special occasion dinners for the past 10 years and still am surprised how much I love eating there each and every time I go there! LOVE IT!!"

  • "We love Cafe Luna for a family dinner out. There was plenty of food, with an appetizer & 3 different pasta meals, to fill up a family of 4."

  • "Our first visit was a great experience. The atmosphere is energetic and cozy. The service was excellent - timely, prompt, helpful but not overbearing. We went for date night and loved it, however, if you like quiet and secluded restaurants for date night, then you may not enjoy it for a "romantic" date. regardless, I would highly recommend dining here."

  • "I had the veal which was tender and the best I've had in awhile. It was the tomato sauce that reminded me of Italy, fresh, bright and not over seasoned."

  • "To be fair it was really busy when we were at Cafe Luna, but the service was very slow- we waited about 15 minutes for a waitress, then about 15 more to get our first drinks. Our food was ok, but our pasta came out with olive oil & garlic even after my husband and I both asked- and waitress assured us- it came with marinara (sauce wasn't mentioned on the menu's description of the item we ordered). Maybe on a slower night & with a different order, but this time it was a miss."

  • "Very enjoyable meal....good service, but unfortunately - this restaurant is way too noisy and the tables are set too close together for comfort. We would go back, but not with a crowd as it is too hard to have a conversation."

  • "I've eaten here plenty of times and always had good experiences. Very good food and service for a more moderate price than many other downtown restaurants. Decently priced wine too."

  • "The food was good but not outstanding. Service was fine and everyone was friendly. the interior is nice a provides a tuscan feel. I would probably go back again in the future. My wife had a pasta dish with garlic spinach and scallops. It was ok, but didn't feel like anything you couldn't knock off in your own kitchen with minimal ingredients and not needing any special recipe. I had the special which was a pork tenderloin stuffed with apricot and plum. It was ok, the tenderloin was not as tender as it should have been but the meal was good and flavorful. It came with a mashed potato. We had coffee and desert, the tiramisu was average. I had been here prior for a work party and thought it was much better at that time."

  • "The food was delicious - as always. I tried the Salmon & Asparagus special because my favorite 'go-to' pasta primavera is no longer on the menu - I was NOT disappointed. They were sensitive to our need to get to the theatre and I always love the quick visit with the owner - caring but not intrusive."

  • "The Portobella Ripieno which was the Portobella Mushroom Stuffed with Gorgonzola & Tomato. Oh my, this was so GOOOOD!! My wife had the Linguini al Granchio - Crabmeat Sauté in Garlic, Olive Oil & Touch of Tomato & Red Pepper and I had the Linguini Pescatore - Calamari, Shrimp, Mussels, Clams and a Scallop Sauté in Olive Oil and Tomato. These were amazingly delicious!! I will come back again and recommend this place to all my friends."

  • "We recently went here to celebrate my wife's best friend learning she is pregnant, so the two couples decided on a night dining out and going to see Les Mis. What a wonderful selection of restaurants. The food was spectacular, the waiter so attentive, a fine table by a window, just a great dining experience. The owner came over and spoke with us and made us feel especially welcome. We'll be back!!"

  • "Caffe Luna hosted my rehearsal dinner and event planner, Darcey, was always so easy to work with and answered emails so promptly. Their special event packages are ridiculously fair priced and usually have beer and wine included! After our wedding, Darcey even sent us a $50 gift certificate just to thank us! We went in for our Valentine's dinner recently (to use the gift certificate) and the owner greeted us at our table and grabbed Darcey to introduce her to us! She remembered me just from email communication! It is no question to how they've stood the test of time in downtown Raleigh after all of these years! So few people do good business these days and Caffe Luna is a shining example of how a restaurant should be operated."

  • "This is a class restaurant. We were very pleased with everything about it. Even the busboys were good. One noted that I had dropped my napkin (which I didn't notice) and took it upon himself to get me a new one and bring it to me. The food never disappoints, the staff are alway polite and the owner is always there interacting with the people. The atmosphere is among the best. We highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Overall, a good meal at typical prices and a pleasant dining experience. All of the food was good with the exception of the bread that was served with the olive-oil. Especially, in an Italian restaurant one would think the bread would be excellent. Here, the bread was dry and of low quality which was disappointing."

  • "Caffe Luna is a long- time favorite that has never disappointed me. Evening entree specials are always intriguing and very good. Service is always fast - especially when going to the symphony or a play after dinner. Gluten-free items are cooked to order."

  • "My wife and I went to Cafe Luna for Valentine's dinner and we were very pleased with our pick. The service from beginning to end was exemplary and our waitress was very attentive even though the place was busy. She took time to take our order and check in on us very timely. She suggested her favorite and we both ended up ordering it and it was the best ravioli I have ever had. The ravioloi was stuffed with crab meat, lobster, and cheese and was covered in an alfredo sauce. Our food came out in a very timely manner. The beer was local and the wine was tasty. It whole dining experience was fantastic. Highly recommended."

  • "I came to Caffe Luna twice for the same birthday: once with the girls and once with my boyfriends family. Two different groups same amazing experience. Everyone left full and happy! I had the Tortelli Crostacci both nights and it was perfection each time. I will come back again. And again. And again."

  • "My experience here could not have been better. Our waitress was so exceptional. The food was spectacular- best Caesar salad I have ever had and melt-in-your-mouth lasagna. Highly recommend for a relatively special occasion or just a treat yourself night on the town."

  • "The food was fine, but there was nothing unique about it. I would recommend Vivace over this restaurant if you are looking for Italian cuisine."

  • "It had been sometime since we had been to Caffe Luna and being a busy Saturday night in Raleigh, we able to reserve a table through OpenTable. We were quickly greeted and seated in an overflow room usually used for group events. It was not very appealing. The wait staff was very good...attentive and helpful. Our foursome all ordered different dishes and were all disappointed in the quality of the food. It was very bland and unimpressive. With so many great options in Raleigh, the menu needs to be revisited and updated."

  • "I was there for a daddy-daughter "date" and my daughter and I liked the food, the service and overall experience. There was a daddy-daughter dance at Marbles museum that day, so a few other folks were there with their daughter. I had been at this restaurant before (about 6 years ago) and from what I can recall, the food and the service were not as good, as what we had this time. So if there has been a change in management since then, kudos to the new management. I will return there soon with my wife."
