A word from Caffe Gelato
Relaxed atmosphere, vibrant bar, good wine cellar (Wine Spectator Award of Excellence), great food, delicious house-crafted gelato and house-crafted pasta. Guests may request a semi-circle booth for parties up to 8, or a nice table. Outdoor seating is available in season and large groups may request a private room.
Caffe Gelato celebrates its 13-year anniversary. For lunch, look forward to trying our panini sandwiches on fresh baked sea-salt and rosemary foccacia, the featured salads or a house crafted pasta. At dinner try the Roasted Rack of Lamb, Prosciutto wrapped Veal Chop, Pan Roasted Pork Tenderloin, Pepper Seared Tuna, Maple Roasted Salmon or any of our 7 pastas. Brunch features omelets, crepes, poached eggs, and Creme Brulee French Toast. Favorite gelato flavors are "bacio" chocolate-hazlenut, mokka cappuccino, dark chocolate, creme brulee toffee and tiramisu.

Not only was this a great bargain but the food was excellent too. We ate dishes of homemade pastas and seafood, and topped it off with a sharing of their home-made gelato. They have an enjoyable brunch on the weekends and we enjoy dining outside on Main Street in warmer weather. A good choice for special occasions!"

Not your typical Italian restaurant, no lasagna or chicken parm or veal parm on menu, but chef is more than willing to make something up for you. For dessert you have to try the 4 sample scoops of their gelato. All the flavors we tried were very good. Look for coupons of Groupon also."

The environment is often a little too loud for our taste knocking it out of the "Romantic" category and the "Group" category as well, because we have to shout to hear each other--bad for digestion. : ) The wine list is good but not exciting--we'd like to see many more choices of really nice wines that are not so expensive and we know they're out there."

  • "We always love our visits to Cafe Gelato; and the food did not disappoint. We waited a while for a server but once we ordered the food came fairly quickly -could have been a llittle warmer. Vacant tables around us were not cleared in a timely manner. I feel they were either slammed unexpectedly or did not have enough wait staff that day. This would not stop me from returning as Cafe Gelato is a quality restaurant."

  • "The service was terrible. We had to wait for quite a while and then paged a bus boy to get us a waiter to get a drink. He was friendly enough, and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. We waited for our coffee and tea and when it got to us my friends coffee was cold, there was not any "basic Lipton-type DACAF" tea in your lovley large box of tea selections. Also I did not get a teaspoon or any cream for my tea. The food was very good, but the servce was not."

  • "This was our second visit; having had such a good experience the first time we returned with friends. The lamb chops were excellent and prepared exactly to order; the gelato was great - too many choices make for difficult decisions so a sampler of four was a nice option. We had several of the pasta dishes that were fine but the pasta primavera was a slight disappointment - not very flavorful. The popularity of the restaurant and bistro-like decor made the noise level a bit 'energetic' for easy conversation at first, but was mitigated as the crowd thinned throughout the evening. The validated parking makes it easy on patrons; a real plus. All in all, a very fine restaurant that we will return to in future visits to the area."

  • "I have reviewed this as a dinner place but this is my first time reviewing it for lunch. As far as I am concerned it is still a 10 on my list. The variety of sandwiches and the sides served with them are simply delightful. Their Pasta Fagiola with the Panini might leave you too full for the Creme Brulee or gelato, so consider taking half of the sandwich home if you get soup also. That was not easy to do with the hand pulled short rib of beef topped with brie and tomato but I cannot pass up their Creme Brulee so I had to wrap part of the sandwich. It made a great snack later. I can say that I have NEVER had a bad meal there. Actually I should say I've never had one that was not delicious."

When we arrived we were seated at a table for 2; the waitress said she would bring additional serving which she did. However, it was not complete; no bread plate or water glass. We had to get the above from another table. Also, although our food selections tasted good, it was not up to the quality we experienced previously."

I ordered the prosciutto wrapped veal chop which was out of this world good. My wife had the scallops which also were perfectly prepared. A great bottle of Pinot Noir and catching a little bit of the Olympic Opening ceremony on the TV behind the bar made the evening perfect. Kudos to the whole team at this restaurant!"

  • "Newark, DE, being halfway between Philadelphia and Baltimore has become our meeting place for lunch several times a year. It has been the perfect place for two old friends to meet and catch up on our news. The food (favors Italian) has always been very good and the service even better. The booths are a perfect size for two or three; and since we usually choose a back booth, we are able to talk and enjoy lunch without interruption. The restaurant doesn't seem to mind that our lunch usually lasts 2+ hours, and we feel that we are welcome to stay as long as we wish. They are usually not crowded during the weekday lunch hour so we are not holding up any tables. And, of course, the gelato for dessert is a must."

  • "We go to Cafe Gelato about 4 times a year. I wish our schedule weren't so busy as we would go more if we had the time. For me, it is not a restaurant to dash in and out. The atmosphere is too relaxing, and sometimes after a good meal, you could find your eyes closing involuntarily. Despite the rise in food prices, they still manage to find fresh ingredients with delicious blends of herbs and vegetables. This is definitely a date night place for my husband and I and never fails to set the tone. There is always a page of daily specials for the adventurous like my husband. I often order the filet, then indulge in the Creme Brulet. The filet is on par or better than some steak houses in Wilmington. A great place fora special dinner."

  • "This is one of my favorite Italian restaurants in the area. The best things on the menu are the tenderloin tip tortellini and of course the gelato. Definitely save room for the gelato, especially the sundae. The wine list fantastic too. Only complaint is that during the college session you can find some not so good servers. They seem lazy and do not tend to the tables. This restaurant is lucky that the food is amazing because the service is lacking."
