I really enjoy Caffe Gelato, though sometimes it's a bit like Halloween: Trick or Treat! This past visit was definitely more treat than trick. We were on time for our reservation, but our table wasn't ready. The hostess made a great service recovery by offering us (party of three) one of the booths. We opted to wait. Food was good. The veal shank was bland, while the sirlion tip tortellini was great, and the lamb sirloin was out of sight! Wow! Service was slow, but that had to do more with the large party seated next to us than our server. She was VERY friendly and helpful. We will be back!

We have frequented Caffee Gelato many times over the past years and have had good food, but this meal was disappointing. As we were seated my husband noticed a used dirty plate that was still on the table. The San Pellegrino was served warm, and fresh mozzarella was missing from a salad that I ordered. The prices are too high end for this quality and type of service.

The ambiance was great. The wait staff inexperienced but friendly and eager to please. The flavors were absolutely fabulous (with the ravioli one of the best things I have ever tasted). BUT, the pasta was not quite cooked enough and my chicken was cooked just a bit too much.

It had been about 7 months since I ate here..so,... salmon was dry..sauce was dried out...shrimp spaghetti pallatable ...but dont overcook the rice throw a quick sauce on it with cheese and call it Risotto...a total violation...I was disapointed and I only write to help them get their cooking back to where it needs to be...If you cant take the 2 days time it takes to make real Risotto, then just call it cheesy rice and move on..

We've visited before but this was the first time I've tried the gluten-free pasta - it was delicious! I've tasted many different GF foods and this was by far the only time I truly didn't think about any difference in taste. Service and ambience were great as usual, the selection of wines by the glass was superb. And to top off the meal - a homemade peach cobbler made from Milburn's peaches... our meal couldn't have been any better. Note: A great location on Main Street offers the opportunity to people-watch if you sit outside.

My husband and I were seated fairly close to the bar this time. It was a Friday night but there was only a slight bit of extra noise compared to the usual atmosphere which is quiet and intimate. I ordered the rib eye special for last week instead of my usual filet. It matched the many recommendations. My husband's filet was as usual. The bruschetta has been tweaked. We don't know what was changed but it was even better than our last visit. Our waiter was speedy but not intrusive. This will always be my birthday dinner as far as I can see.

Had dinner last week (August 2014). My husband and I both ordered a Caesar salad and we both thought it was one of the best we'd ever had! We also both ordered the ribeye special -- fine but not great. My steak was rare even though I ordered it medium well. Our cocktails were also unimpressive. Service was good, except at the end of the meal, when we felt like our waiter had disappeared and we had to wait a very long time to get the check. Our daughter's children's-sized meal was very generous and included a scoop of gelato, which she loved!

I've been to Cafe Gelato many time and it's always good. I do have to say the last time my Filet Mignon was burnt. I asked for medium well as I always do, but this time it was just plain burnt. I should of complained immediately, but I was on a time constraint and needed to keep the dinner moving along. I cut off a large porition of the meat to get rid of the burnt flavor. Usually the food is very good - this time not so much.

We had dinner at Cafe Gelato to celebrate our anniversary. The restaurant was very noisy at 7:00 on a Wednesday night. Our dinners were OK but not as good as we anticipated based on some of the reviews and the prices. One of us order the filet cooked medium but it was over cooked. The other had a pasta dish which was good, but not excellent. We might go back for lunch, but will not probably go back for dinner.

This used to be a regular place for us even if it was out of the way from our home. They make an effort to bring you back with occasional coupons. Their service has always been haphazard, this time it was better than usual. Unfortunately that was not the case for the food, they are clearly starting to skimp. The antipasti had only 2 small pieces of meat, the rest some olives and vegetables. The salad did not fill the plate, more croutons than anything else. The pesto was lacking in basil flavor and pasta overcooked and swimming in oil. Will probably not return.

As always the food was very good. I had the mussels appetizer, the sauce was outstanding, but the muessls were very small, not plump, and somewhat overcooked. The beef tenderloin-mushroom pasta dish had great pasta and sauce, some of the pieces of tenerloing were a little chewy, but otherwise, the dish was superb. My friend had the veal chop which he requested "medium" and it came out very rare and had to be sent back. Not a big deal, but the waiter specified mashed potatos and it came out with fingerling potatos instead. He asked for an appetizer of noodles with bolognase sauce, which, despite the sauce being on the menu they could not acconmodate. The ched did make a special carbonara. Serice overall was spotty.

We love Caffe Gelato in Newark for the consistently great fine dining experience. We were greeted pleasantly by Hostess Allison who facilitated our Open Table reservation with a special request for a half moon booth in the new section. Our waiter Garrett performed admirably with a smile each time he attentively approached the table. Our dinner choice was Tenderloin Tip Tortellini Filet mignon tips sautéed with shiitake, button and portabella mushrooms, roasted garlic, baby spinach and roasted shallots, finished with a Marsala cream sauce over goat cheese and ricotta stuffed house-crafted tortellini ($ 24.75). Thanks to being on the mailing list our dinner got a $20 credit.

I was there to celebrate my 50th with my family. I always get coupons in mail so I looked at menu online and it looked great. I had the polenta and short rib app. Beef tender but no flavor at all. Scallop entrée. Scallops cooked well. Peach relish did not belong. Tasted like canned corn and the peaches had no flavor. Asparagus woody. Entrée was luke warm. Others had filet which was very tough, brussel sprouts dry and cold. Pasta with shrimp and crab, shell in first bite. I really wanted to like this place. Hopefully it will improve. I brought the leftovers home and then threw them away. Server Eddie was great!

I'm in Delaware at least 4 times each year and we always go to Caffe Gelato as my step-daughter is a vegetating and they are happy to help her create food items. We all love the food BUT the service is another story. This past Sunday was very slow and we till had to wait almost 20 min.s for our first round of drinks. The staff was in the private wine room eating fast food and not giving a hoot what was going on in the restaurant. I drink what I think is a very simple drink, gray goose shaken ice cold straight up. I was asked 2 times what did you want & served a warm drink. The front of the house needs some serious work and a seasoned manager.

We a were able to shut the for when we needed a quieter moment for conversations on a very busy Friday night at Gelatos. Incredible food quality and selection for a fair price. Highly recommended.

I haven't been to Caffe Gelato for many years due to a bad experience, and generally not impressed. So I went again as my friends wanted to go there. Same experience. Average to poor service. Overpriced food with average food. Young college kids working that aren't customer oriented - just going through the motions. A very simple request to have black olives on the Caesar salad. Instead of the server saying that they don't have black olives, he sets it down and says nothing. Okay - maybe he doesn't know the difference. He did - when it was mentioned to him he said "yeah, I figured they would put kalamata olives on it." When were you going to tell me.

My wife and I had the pan seared ahi tuna entree which was just fine, nothing out of the ordinary. We had three kids who only ordered entrees, only I had a glass of wine and we each had one scoop of gelato for dessert. The bill for the five of us was over $200, which I think is too expensive for the amount of food we were actually served. The food is good, but it's expensive.

Café Gelato rarely fails to make me feel good inside. The wines are nice. This time I ordered a salad which was very scrumptious, with yellow beets and some sort of marinated poached pears and marcona almonds-great flavors when all put together. My shrimp and lump crabmeat linguine is my favorite dish and (ordered as low sodium) was excellent. Jeff, our waiter, was impeccable as usual. He is the best waiter (and most handsome) at Gelato !

Ahh, the joys of summer! With the CIty of Newark back into a quiet urban mode for a few weeks, it was the right time to enjoy Cafe Gelato's patio and a great meal. Our wiater was very attentive, the food and beverages were properly served and a fine relaxing dining experince was enjoyed. Now, if only the City would relax its parking regulations! Even on Sunday, you need to keep your quarters handy or have acredit card at the ready. But, don't let that issue sway you from enjoying a nice meal and atmosphere at Cafe Gelato!

Gelato's used to be our go to location in Newark for a great meal on special occasions. Food and Service were unmatched in the area. Now unfortunately (4 visits in the past 3 months) both the food and the services has declined to the point that we will not go back. When the owner is present, the experience is better, but when he is not there, it is just another college town eatery.

Had a very good waiter but it did seem to take quite a while to get served. Noticed that folks who came in after us were served before we were. When I got my Eggplant Parmesan It was just warm and a little on the dry side. I think that it might have been sitting out for a little while in the back before I got it. Sorry if I am sounding so negative but to the 3 of us at my table, we felt that the noise level was high and a bit distracting. Your restaurant was charming and everyone we dealt with was very professional and pleasant.
