Diner Reviews
  • "I went with my sister and sister in law. They are from out of town and love the look and ambiance of the place. For me it is too noisy and my pasta with morel diner was strange. I cannot imagine putting asparagus with morels and I did not like the lemon in the dish although my sister in law did like it. We both asked that the asparagus be left off the dish. I had taken them last year and both guests thought the pasta was outstanding then. Not so impressed this year. The service was pretty good but for dinner I would like to have seen tidier, more 'uniform' clothing."

  • "Our party of five had an excellent dining experience. The online booking was seemless. The food delicious. The wait staff, notably our waitress, were pleasantly informal, informative and attentive to the perfect degree. I highly recommend try Caffe Dolce."

  • "The place was very busy but we had made reservations a few weeks prior. Our waitress was very nice but the food came out very slow. We did not have appetizers but did have salads which took about 45 minutes to get. We were there for 2 hours before we finally got our dinner. Overall it was a pleasant experience, and the food was outstanding but it would only go again if I had several hours available for dinner."

  • "We were 15 minutes last for our reservation (we're out of towner's and didn't realize how long a walk it was from where we were staying). We called to let them know, and despite the crowd, our table was waiting. The food was quite delicious- generous portions, fresh ingredients. Service was a tad slow but I'm sure that was due to the fact that there were many big groups dining that night. But our waitress was very attentive and once she brought out those sublime dinner rolls, we were more than content to wait as long as needed! We are grateful for their kindness, and would recommend this wonderful restaurant to any and all!"

  • "Our server seemed distracted. After a couple of us asked questions, she walked away, without checking to see whether we were in fact ready to order. We all looked at each other, exchanging perplexed expressions. After we had finished our entrees, she didn't ask if anyone wanted dessert or coffee. As for the food, I had one of the pizzas. Unfortunately, its crust was so tough that I could not bite it and even had trouble cutting it with knife and fork. Incidentally, I would have ordered a salad if the menu had included one that would suffice as an entrée. None had meat or an option of adding it. One member of our party did order a salad as her entrée, but it looked awfully small. All in all, the restaurant was a disappointment."

  • "We were happy with our dinner the other night. The food was delicious and, frankly, we found the portion sizes to be almost a relief. We didn't get a plate of pasta with 5 pounds of food on it. The dining room is in a large, industrial-sized room, so it was loud and somewhat chaotic with some kids running around. Not a place for a romantic dinner. Still, rated high for the high quality food, unique menu items, and our server was fantastic. A bit overpriced too."

  • " When we arrive on time for our Open Table reservation, the fellow at the front, said "he never heard of Open Table". It was everyone for yourself in a crowded lunch environment. When we found a table for the two of us, a man came over and commandeered it for his party of four. We took a table in the rear corner. We ordered at the counter and it took awhile for our food to be delivered to our table minus any silverware, which apparently you have to get for yourself. The food was good, but the effort in getting it was not worth it."

  • "I have been to to Cafe Dolce many times--usually for brunch/lunch. This time it was dinner and I took out of town guests. They dine in Billings often and around the country (Las Vegas, Seattle, etc.-she is a gourmet cook). Both were very impressed with smells, taste and visual sensations. They continued to comment about the wonderful food all the remainder of their visit. Thanks."

  • "Had a wonderful meal at Cafe Dolce. On race weekends we look for a place with a tasty menu, and one that has a good mix of carbs and protein. All the meals were delicious and had the right mixture of carbs/protein. One small mix up on orders brought us an extra dish of pasta, which my racer promptly downed. He preformed quite well the next day so it must have worked!"

  • "I love this restaurant for all occasions! To start, they make THE BEST coffee in Missoula and breakfast is delicious and simple. Lunch is equally as good and it's a great place to meet - it's big enough that if you show up for lunch rush you still usually don't have to wait but there are always lots of people making the place feel lively. Dinner is amazing - the pasta is homemade and you can tell! The atmosphere changes in the evening to become very calm and cozy. I love that you can dress up and not feel out if place but you can also just wear a hoody and jeans! I come here with my friends, date night with my husband, with my 1year old, and sometimes just by myself. It's always great... Food, staff, environment... Love it!"

  • "We've eaten here before, never noticed so many crying kids though. Kids are great, but when a meal is $50.00 or more per person, having a kid friendly grilled cheese etc menu spoils the mood. I'll head somewhere else next time. The tables are sticky, perhaps they just need some care."

  • "My husbands parents visited from out of town and we took them to Cafe Dolce for their first night in Missoula. We ordered the: artisan cheese board- 3 cheeses (small portions), came with fig jam, and grilled bread (burnt bread) each ordered a glass of wine- I had the house red which for $5 a glass is very good, my husband ordered the house white he said it was too sweet to drink I had the lamb gluten free pasta with mint, it was fantastic and I would order it again!"

  • "We are frequent diners at Cafe Dolce. The wait staff and management work very hard to make their guests feel welcome. The food is consistently good and offers seasonal menu selections and daily specials. Their is a large selection of wine and beer with new additions being featured on the menu."

  • "We had an excellent dinner Thursday night, but service was not....had our delicious salads and then waited an incredibly long time before dinner arrived....The kitchen must have had something go wrong or they were slammed.... In any event, we all felt that a comment or two from our sever as to why the food was taking so long would have been helpful in terms of explaining the interminable wait...Communication goes a LONG way in keeping your guests happy!!! Food was delicious as always, service was NOT!!!!!"

  • "I was blown away by this place, I LOVED EVERY BITE! I had the morel pasta one night and it was so tender and yummy, and I had the salmon another night and it was incredible. Other people at our table had the flank steak, and the roasted chicken, both excellent. And we shared the smoked scallop salad which was delicious and light. I was only in town for 5 days but went there twice. Had a nice glass of wine too. And the rolls with the salt on them are so good. It was a little loud for me, I prefer a quieter room, and when the weather is warmer it would be great to sit outside. The waitresses were awesome, and I really appreciated being able to make the res online. I will go back every time I'm in Missoula. : )"

  • "Cafe Dolce is just 2 blocks from my home, and it is always hopping, but never feels rushed. The food is excellent, as is the service, and the proportions are generous without being obnoxiously huge. The only downside to this great, local, family owned business, is the beautiful intererior has terrible acoustics. It can be very difficult to hear the person you are with because of the ambient noise, but the patio is a great place to eat in fine weather, and not even the bad acoustics inside are enough to keep me from returning again and again!"

  • "We eat here often as locals. This time we brought an out-of-town guest and they weren't disappointed. After spotting a specific wine on the online list (a favorite from their time in Italy), this restaurant was selected from a list of Missoula ptions and our guest was not disappointed! Thank you for wonderful food, wine and service!"

  • "Caffe Dolce never fails to surprise me. The menu is creative but not pretentious. The pastas dishes are especially delicious - on this latest visit I had tagliatelle topped with morels, asparagus, and other goodies, finished with truffle oil. Yum. The wine list is filled with reasonably priced choices that complement the the food. On this visit our server suggested a wonderful Sancerre. We listened. Wise choice. I hesitate to mention that they have a children's menu, lest readers think Caffe Dolce is a "family" restaurant. It is not. What it offers is a fine dining experience that welcomes families. And there is a difference. Caffe Dolce is as good as any restaurant we have in Boston. I can't wait to return. "

  • "My husband and I dine here frequently. This time, we brought a guest. The lamb carpaccio is very good. Their Caesar salads are good as well. Two of us ordered the duck confit ragu pasta and the other ordered the lamb ragu pasta. While a little too salty, the dishes were very good. We also ordered a bottle of wine. Our server, Dani, was very nice, however, she brought each course to our table and turned away to head to the next task. She failed to refill our wine glasses, and she did not offer grated Parmesan for the pasta dishes. Because we had a guest, we didn't speak up. Other than the less than great service, we enjoyed our meal as we usually do here."

  • "The food represents the best of the season. It is traditional but inventive, and is prepared with an eye toward fidelity to the ingredients' character and quality. The wait staff possesses sound knowledge of the menu and the wine list. They get opportunities to try the wine in order to better recommend pairings. If they don't know the answer to a question, they will find someone who does. The sommelier picks wines for the list which represent not only classic Italian styles but out-of-the way DOGs and heirloom varietals. When this place was built it was controversial. Some neighborhood residents feared the traffic it might create, preferring apparently the out of business gas station with the leaky underground storage tanks!"

  • "We travel a lot and are big fans of unique and tasty food. Caffe Dolce is outstanding! Our waitress was WONDERFUL.....overall I don't think you could go wrong heading out the door to eat here. Keep up the food and service....we'll be back!"

  • "My husband had the lamb ragu and I had the duck confit ragu. While both were on the salty side, we enjoyed the dishes very much. Madison was our wait person, and we like her very much. She knows the wine list and is always sure to offer a taste of any unfamiliar wine we order. "

  • "Both the food & set-up are unique. While not what I would think of as my everyday foods, they provide a very tasty & surprising filling meal for a reasonable price. The open, but crowded lay-out is also not something that I would look for, but was a friendly & enjoyable."

  • "Though I have totally taken dates here, I went with my friend. We had a fun time, great food, and phenomenal wine. As an Italian restaurant, I was surprised that they had gluten free options for my friend. And when the server gave an accidental gluten full plate of food to her, he was very gracious when he noticed the error and returned with the proper plate of pasta. They took the opportunity to admit their mistake and keep our dinner flowing nicely."

  • "The menu at Cafe Dolce has something for everyone. Amazing flavor choices in pasta and a variety of other offerings. Don't miss the octopus and bone marrow pasta. To die for! The service was nicely timed and the portions were spot on. Highly recommended. It can be a bit noisy but not awful. The gelato for dessert is great too."

  • "Requested a table in the side room, which is much quieter, and has a beautiful display of plates, serving pieces, and coffee cups from Italy. I ordered the Shrimp & Serrano Tagliatelle. I am not a fan of very hot food, so requested a fraction of the serrano chilies. It was still too hot. I flagged the waitress and asked for some cheese on the side. That didn't help, so I picked out as many of the chilies that I could find and muscled my way through it. The manager came around asking about our meal. I mentioned to him that my dish was too hot (spicy). He offered to make a new plate for me, but since I was almost done, I declined. A few minutes later, he came by with a "gift certificate" for a free entree on our next visit."

  • "Our party of four included a vegetarian and a gluten-free and dairy-free dieter. We all found something delicious on the menu and were very happy with the winter menu selection. The duck confit and pork belly were especially good. Be sure to make a reservation any night of the week, or go for a late dinner."

  • "First impression was that the decor didn't look like the decor of a top rated restaurant and was unsure whether the food would be top notch. Much to our surprise, the food was excellent and would rival any 4-star restsurant in any large metro area. To make it ever better, the waitress as outstandig as well. Wasn't happy to see a $20 pour charge on a birthday present of whiskey we brought in and waitress didn't even touch the bottle, and we used our own glasses."
