Caffe Carrera is located on a busy stretch of La Cienega Blvd. just south of Wilshire. It's a tiny restaurant tucked in right next to a Subway sandwich shop. But don't let that deter you - the food is worth a visit. Don't go looking for fancy presentation - the plating looks like something your mom would make. But it tastes great! I had the meatloaf, and it was moist and very tasty. And the complimentary bread is SO GOOD! We asked for a second serving. Give Caffe Carrera a try the next time you want homey Italian food.

Caffe Carrera is just around the corner from the Saban Theatre, and is a perfect spot for an informal quick bite before a show. Ricardo, the owner-manager, is a genial and friendly host and clearly proud if his little place. Food was delicious, portions generous, service quick, prices fair. We'll absolutely be back.

My husband and I were going to a concert July 18th at the Saban. I found this place on Yelp. The person said the food was good. We liked that it was around the corner. We were expecting a big place. It was kinda small but seats 30 inside. I wouldn't recommend eating outside-loud and the cars kick up dirt. My husband ordered a beer and they were out but took the time to go to a liquor store to buy some. Big points! The atmosphere was casual, nothing fancy. The food was amazing and reasonably priced. We liked it so much we were back (for another concert) on July 24th and brought another couple. Again the food was great. The menu has alot of choices so I'm sure we'll be back.

I have tried to eat at this restaurant twice. The first time we made a reservation and they decided to not even open that evening. By mistake I booked another reservation for lunch this time. It was at 11:30 the place was empty. It was for a business meeting but they sat us at the smallest two top I have ever seen out side of Paris. A Laminated notice "CASH ONLY" ATM available was inside the menu. We were sat in the back, across from the drink station. No atmosphere, unfriendly management. No idea what the food is like, We paid for our drinks and went to a different spot down a few blocks. When we left, the place was still empty.

We went to dinner before a show at the Saban this past weekend...I had the Sicilian meatloaf and it was, as the waiter said, "the best." It's excellent. Service took a bit longer than expected but they had a rush before the show and it just gave us more time to catch up and have am extra glass of wine. I would definitely return. Note that it is cash only, but there is an ATM in the doorway.

Because this place is small and cozy, how good it is really depends on how many other diners are present and how much wine they've had to drink. I had been waiting a couple of years (no joke) to bring some friends, but the experience was a little marred by the very comfortable table of four who had already been eating and drinking for a period of time, so they were loud in their laughter and conversation. The two other tables (there are only 4 4-seaters) filled after I arrived with my party, but both ordered, served, ate and were gone before our dinner even arrived. Thought it was lame it is cash only and although there is an ATM machine in the restaurant, there is a fee. Was also sad my favorite dish wasn't on the menu. :(

We had dinner here before seeing a concert at the Saban Theatre. There were reviews online about rude service and we found it EXACTLY the OPPOSITE. The owner was friendly and had a great sense of humor with us. It was like eating dinner at a close friends' house that cared about making a great meal. We started with a Calamari salad, delicious. The light dressing on the salad complimented the sauteed calamari, which was perfectly done, not overcooked. We shared a veal dish with roasted peppers and goat cheese and the lobster ravioli. Both were delicious. We brought our own wine (corkage fee). The Saban is close walking distance to Caffe Carrera and is a great start to seeing a show there.

I read a lot of yelp reviews about the restaurant and they are very discouraging. They were mostly right though. The food was quite amazing, super tasty, and original. But the manager/waiter (or possibly owner) needs to learn something about customer service, good customer service makes for a good experience, the food alone is not enough. SMILE!!!!! We don't have to be friends, just a bit of courtesy would be good

I hadn't dined at Caffe Carrera since it changed hands. What a change! Cranky, gruff owner orders patrons around. They don't take credit cards, but do have an ATM. Pretty cheesy if you ask me. They don't want to pay the small percentage on a credit card, but glad to take a piece of the ATM action. That said, don't go if you are on any kind of expense account. Food has take a nose dive. Bread that used to be great, is now overcooked and tasteless. Garlic spread is made with green garlic, making it quite distasteful. Lentil soup might have been good if it had been cooked correctly. Pasta is OK at best, but not like in the past. Al in all, don't waste your time when there are so many other great restaurants in the area.

I found this place on Yelp and the location was perfect for our outing at the Saban theatre. I was expecting a bigger , nicer place. The menu has a big posted page stating cash only, ATM available, and the specials were hand written and hard to read. The manager or server seemed offended when I was asking about the specials. The food was good, not great and I probably won't return unless I need a quick place to eat on the way to the theatre. I guess it's more of a lunch spot as the manager commented he only has business at night when there is something going on at the theatre.

Very good italian food without the crowd and noise of other restaurants in the area. The service was great as the server was very attentive and gave us great recommendations on everything from wine pairings to what sauce to choose with our pasta. Also, I would recommend getting the pink sauce if you are getting pasta. I will be going back here again.

We made a reservation for 5:30 on a Saturday through OpenTable and after waiting ten minutes for someone to open the door for us the cooks informed us (rather rudely) that "No one is here yet." On the door, it said the restaurant opened at 5:30 for dinner.

We had a wonderful meal here-- we told our host that we needed to leave at a particular time to catch a film at the Saban theater and we were assured it would not be a problem. They kept their promise. Our meal was good and the wait staff made us feel at home. The wine list was also good. We will definitely be back and were glad to find out about local delivery- although I am not sure we would want to give up the cafe experience.

Based on Open Table and Yelp reviews we went there before a show at the Saban theater. What a great little restaurant. The pasta dishes were very good, including the specials with spinach fettucini and black pasta. At the suggestion of the waiter, one of our group got the meatloaf (yes, meatloaf in an italian restaurant) and was blown away (this is not your mothers meatloaf). It will be my first choice of restaurants when going to the area for any shows or events.

Fantastic! My friend and I were looking for a good restaurant in the area. We searched Open Table for recommendations and were very pleased with their suggestion of Cafe Carrera. The food - super-fresh artichoke salad, grilled salmon with fresh tomatoes and a side of lobster ravioli with cream sauce was outstanding. Cute clean spot with excellent service (the owner no less) makes this a rare franchise-free gem.

We decided to try Carrera Cafe through DineLA fixed price 3 course meal. The food was fantastic - everything was well prepared. The homemade bread and garlic were also wonderful. Everything about the food was great. It was early in the evening, so the restaurant was on the quiet side. That said, the service was OK. I got the impression that the server was the owner or manager; either way he was somewhat laissez faire about serving us. That said, I would go back for the food and hope the service would be better.

The food is fresh Italian food and the wine is delicious, definetely got a buzz going. The service was what was a little lacking. Owner was kind of rude and we asked the wait staff for bread and they didn't bring it even though only one other party was there and they brought it to them. Overall the food makes up for it though it was very delicious so I would go back. Portions were smaller than average American restaurant but thats probably a good thing. Free parking located in the back of the restaurant which was also nice for LA. Cant wait to try another dish
