Our new cafeteria-themed menu is a modern interpretation of classic soul-satisfying American dishes prepared with organic grass-fed beef and lamb, free-range chicken, the freshest seafood and organic, local produce. These properly raised ingredients
behave perfectly with a new world of herbs, spices and culinary techniques to create deeply satisfying comfort food for the new millennium.

Diner Reviews
  • "Great outdoor dining on a warm night! I have eaten there a bunch and was happy to get outside on a beautiful night!"

  • "Very good food. Try the Tuna burger made with fresh tuna. Easy to get to from almost anywhere. Service was efficient and done with a smile. We sat indoors which was very noisy. Noise is not a bad quality just not one we knew about going in. It was a bit hard to hear even across the table. Not perfect fit for a family with smaller children. We would go again."

  • "With 3 friends, beautiful day, lovely outdoor table. The good experience ended there. Service was terrible: food did not come together, 2 dishes were sent back because bacon was seriously undercooked, food was average and it took a half hour and three requests to get the check. I will never go back."

  • "I loved cafeteria. The food was good and reasonable, the drink menu was good too. The waitresses were all great and super accommodating. I definitely want to go back for brunch on my next trip to Boston."

  • "Went for Sunday brunch with a few friends. We were seated upstairs, and the ambience was amazing. Great music, great vibe, and excellent customer service. We plan to go back there again this weekend with more friends!"

  • "Cafeteria was great! It is a very cute restaurant with great decor and a young vibe. We went for Saturday brunch and there seemed to be a lot of young people there. The food was really tasty however it was a little bit on the oily side. I would definitely recommend this place for brunch! It would be especially fun to attend with a group of friends."

  • "Crowded for Sunday brunch, with decent food but inattentive and sometimes downright rude service."

  • "We made a reservation, arrived and when I went up to the host he shushed me rudely and held his hand up to my face. I have a like/hate expereince with Cafeteria. The food is ok, not phenomenal, but the spot is convenient and so I end up coming here more often than I should. But after this last time, I'm pretty much done. Host staff is always rude, impatient, and makes you feel like you should be kissing their feet to eat at this restaurant. Honestly, the food is not amazing, let's be honest. The waiter was nice, but that's about the only reason why I'm not giving this place a complete fail. Don't waste your time here, go down the street to Trident, Sonsie, or just about anywhere else."

  • "The perfect "mid-range" restaurant that's not too expensive, has a good atmosphere, and great food. One of the best bets for the Back Bay."
    Dined on 12/11/2013
  • "Who blasts techno music throughout the dining room at 7:30? This place. I guess they're trying to emphasize that they're a young people's party place and that middle-agers like my husband and me aren't welcome. We got the same vibe from the guy who tried to seat us at the worst table in the place (one weird table between bar, front door, bathroom line and service area) then gave us attitude when we asked for one of the several unoccupied tables in normal parts of the room instead. Too bad, because the food is good. Also, the bartender was gracious and welcoming. She should get a job at a more elegant establishment."

  • "Came here for a Sunday Brunch - indoors. It was too cold that day for them to have outside seating. I had originally made a reservation which I arrived late for but they honored it anyway - which I greatly appreciated. We were seated upstairs right across from the bar, with a great view out of the window. This place was made for days like that one - bright and sunny. Because of the location on Newbury, it is of course great for people watching. The food was good, nothing spectacular. Although I really did enjoy the Lilosa, a grapefruit champagne mix."

  • "Everything on the menu is delicious. I recommend the pitchers of sangria with friends. The cheeseburger spring rolls are a must eat to split."

  • "Chose this location without any information, found the brunch food as well as the lunch offerings interesting and tasty. The breakfast pizza went over well and the lamb burger was special. If you are counting calories, don't waste them on the parmesan fries as they were disappointing. Great value price wise as well. We would certainly put this on the regular brunch stops. Bar scene looked enjoyable and offered access to games."

  • "Recommended by a colleague about this restaurant; it was not far distance and so I made a reservation, got there 14 minutes early but had our table ready! First impression: Clean. Yellow (slightly dim) lights with candles and flowers made it romantic, had a semi- to formal rich atmosphere! We were led to second floor: on the left was a bar, and on the right had a nice view of the street. Noise level was loud even on weekday night but still had good time. Would love to sit near window and couch next time. Nice food (love the daily special menu), great service and champagne..mm~ thank you!! Not too expensive ($20~30 per person; says a college student); if you're looking to have good times with your loved one, this is a perfect restaurant!"

  • "This is a great place for visiting parents to take their college kid. The food is terrific. The restaurant is lively...just the right amount of trendy for everyone. And it's on Newbury Street, which has great shopping for before or after."

  • "My bridesmaids and I went here after shopping for dresses. It was the perfect follow up to a fun morning. We enjoyed brunch outside on the patio. We had originally made reservations but finished up early and went over. They were very accommodating and sat us right away despite the change. The food was excellent and the drink menu was originally and reasonably priced. I would definitely go back."

  • "We went for brunch this past weekend at 1pm. The restaurant was prettty busy, and our server was great. What was not great was the delivery of our food. There were 6 of us, and our food was delivered in 3 phases, with the last plates coming 10 minutes after the first. I do not know how you allow that at a restaurant like this. The food was good, and my son loved the breakfast pizza, but, with all the restaurants in boston, it is silly to come to this place when they cannot figure out how to get your food to the table."

  • "I planned my best friends Bachelorette dinner at Cafeteria, it was excellent! When we arrived they were running slightly behind on the reservations so they so kindly bought all 10 of our party a round of drinks. Which I must say the bartender was excellent and made a killer drink. Which as an ex bartender...many people who call themselves bartenders just simply do not know how to mix a drink. As we continued to wait he so kindly poured us some amazing grapefruitish shots,Amazing! Once we sat our waitress was attentive our food was excellent and came in a timely fashion! Overall I would say some of the reviews do not accurately depict this place. I consider myself somewhat of a foodie who loves a great atmosphere and this place did it!"

  • "We are very happy with Cafeteria because it has a delicious, accessible menu of items that are made using sustainable, "happy" food. Emphasis on organic and local. Everything we have eaten there has been excellent. Waitstaff are competent, but not fabulous. Decor is pleasant and inviting. Bathrooms have been a bit dirty but not horrific. Overall, we love the food here and will continue to dine at Cafeteria whenever we are in Boston."

  • "We love traveling to Boston especially when we start our day with a lovely Brunch with a great atmosphere. I found Cafeteria tooling around Open Table for recommendations. It sits on a sunny corner and there is upstairs and downstairs seating. We were seated upstairs against the windows and had a fantastic breakfast sided with coffee and great service. There are many options for Breakfast something for everyone. We had greek yogurt with berries, fluffy awesome mouth watering french toast, eggs etc. We will absolutely go back."

  • "Even on a dreary February night in Boston, cafeteria was a warm and inviting nook to cozy up in for a couple of hours. We started with the Spinach and Artichoke dip, and the calamari. They were both fantastic the calamari was fried perfectly, done but not even a hit of chewy-ness. The dip was also incredible being the first time I have ever enjoyed a spinach and artichoke dip, it was made form goat cheese. For my entree I had the meatloaf which came with a mound of mashed potatoes. It didn't look any different from other meatloaves but oh my was it. The spicy ketchup on top paired with the savory meat and perfectly mashed taters provided a meal I will not soon forget. The drinks were also hands down some of the best."

  • ""Late" lunch -2pm, had a reservation so not a drop-in surprise party (party of 4) Waited a long time to order. Food took a long time to come. Had to ask for cutlery, napkins and bread for the whole table after food arrived at the table. Waitress and waiter friendly and nice but a general lack of overview seemed to be a problem."

  • "Decent brunch. I prefer it for lunch or dinner. The portions change variable here. My friends huevo rancheros were a large good portion. I got eggs and bacon and the portion was a bit small. I even had to ask for extra toast and home fries are extra which is a bit odd. Some things here are very good and some just ok. The room upstairs is a nice setting"

  • "While everything was reasonably well preparted, nothing was particularly interesting. The mac in the mac and cheese was nice and dente, but the cheese sauce was decidedly dull. The chicken in the quesadilla was nicely grilled and juicy but the dish on the whole was fairly salty (perhaps from brining the chicken). If you don't cook and your tastes aren't that ambitious, the place is hip, the presentation is good and the service is pleasant. If you seek adventure when you eat out, I'd spin the spinner again."

  • "dropped off a card and bouquet of roses to be place on the table before I let the manager know when I got there earlier that it was my Boyfriend and I 2nd year anniversary and she said that it would all be taken care of. Heather put us right next to the windows over looking Newbury Street with views of the Prudential Center Tower. This was a great spot. The Server came over greeted us with two Glasses Complimentary Prosecco a nice gesture by management they knew it was a special occasion. I really think they out did themselves with customer service and making sure we had a great dinning experience. I got the Steak, cooked medium, and he got the chicken Mac and cheese. They were both great. This is one of our new favorite spots downtown."

  • "I went here with my boyfriend on a Saturday night, it was very crowded but the atmosphere was nice enough that it didn't ruin the mood. The service wasn't perfect but like I said, it was really busy, service is usually bad anywhere on Newbury street Saturday night because it gets so busy, but Cafeteria was really pretty good. and the food was AMAZING. He got a burger, I tried it and it might have been the best burger ever, i got the scallops and they were absolutely incredible. I will most definitely be going back again!"

  • "I will start by saying the food was terrrific with a wide selection of uniquely prepared comfort foods. The wait staff was excellent as well. Unfortunately we visited on a cool evening following torrential rains which limited their dining area to a walkdown basement bar/dining area. Normally this would have been fine, but the musty, damp odor was a bit overwhelming following the heavy rains and street flooding. We will return during sunny, dry weather and look forward to their outside dining area"

  • "I phoned Cafeteria to tell them we would be late due to disruptions on the T-line, & asked that they keep the table. I was told they would give my table away if I was later than 15 mins. I sent my husband to rush to the restaurant while I waited for a friend. My husband arrived ~17 mins after our initial reservation, he then waited around for someone to help him for ~5 mins. When he was finally helped, the maitre d was very rude, & told him that we were "VERY late!". He tried to explained the situation, but she argued back that we were later than 15 mins, & they had given our table away. Frustrated by her bad attitude, my husband turned to the manager, who was thankfully very helpful. Our waitress was also lovely & the food was very good."

  • "great brunch; bellini so-so (low bead); capuccino not the best; but the home fries and eggs were so delicious that such minor defects paled into insignificance. Sausages were better than average too, and the price was very fair."
