Cafe VicinoVery Pleasant Dining ExperieinceI gave the restaurant a high noise level only because we sat on the patio and it is both on a busy street and across from a school where evening intramural were going on. If we had sat inside, it would have been quiet.
I was very pleased with my choices, my husband not as much. But I think it was because he selected a pasta carbonara which he found salty. But bacon is salty so there you have it.

Ironically we live just a few blocks away from Cafe Vicino and still had yet to try it. We we delighted when we finally did. Great place to go for a smaller more romantic setting. Nice patio and quiet overall. Food was excellent, mix of Italian fare with a bit of french thrown in. Dishes were not over portioned and actually tasted like effort was put in to making them. Wine list was decent, not large but enough for most people to get their fix. When we arrived, they had no reservation, even after receiving a confirmation call earlier in the day. I mentioned again that it was our anniversary.

However, last week we ate on the patio and found the traffic noise unpleasant and the setting sun in the eyes, even through the screen, annoying. I hated to be inside on such a lovely evening but I can't recommend the patio. We have had fish and seafood (halibut and shrimp) here twice and both times were impressed with how well it was prepared. Portions are a good size and enough to split if you want. Service is excellent as well. Ambiance is ok. The birthday person had the special, short ribs, which were delicious, and I had the Alaskan Halibut. This was the best halibut I have ever eaten, cooked just right with a complementary sauce, along with the homemade cheese ravioli. Nice romantic setting and quiet so we could talk. The music was nice and not to loud. Service was friendly and not rushed. Food was well presented on the plate and very well cooked. The service is always outstanding. Comfortable, proffesional and kind. You know these people understand fine dining. The food is always great. The menu is small compared to most restaurants of the same caliber, but unique as well. The prices are what I find amazing. You can actually have a culinary experience without breaking the bank. This may sound funny but we live in Eagle and don't stray to far from home with drinking and driving (not to mention "night visison"). Anytime I am in Boise, I am going to this restaurant!!4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoy a Lunch BreakI enjoy this restaurant a lot and I make the effort to have lunch here at least once a month (it is a 20 minutes drive from my work, so you know I must like it). It is well worth the experience. A couple notes: the tables are close together, so if you have noisy neighbors, it can be a bit annoying. If you have the usual, more sedate crowd, it is a real pleasant respite for lunch. The food is from good to great depending upon the selection.
