Drawing on influences from Italy, Spain and France, the menu is innovative, ingredient-driven and flavorful, pleasing even the most sophisticated palate. Menus change with the seasons to take advantage of locally sourced ingredients, fresh fish, meat and game as they become available. Chef Richard Langston and his team create daily specials, adding to the variety of choices for both lunch and dinner.

Café Vicino's wine list is hand-selected by Chef Richard Langston to enhance your dining experience. With a focus on food-friendly varietals, the selections are from both the old and new worlds: Italy, France, Spain, Oregon, California, Idaho and Washington.

We hope to see you soon in our neighborhood!

Diner Reviews
  • "After the loss of La Vie en Rose, this stitches together a bit of the hole left in my heart. The wine selection is excellent, wait-staff are personable, and every menu choice has proven delectable. The figs alone are worth the trip!"

  • "The food and service were fabulous! Everything was perfect and we'll be back soon!!"

  • "I've always looked forward to my visits here but this time not so good...wines by the glass too limited, waiter over-attentive, the entree choices seemed way too full of 'this and that', and the special I ordered overloaded the plate and included too much of everything. The best thing was heir accommodating my request for half of a house salad which was just enough and very good."

  • "Great food. Just on the spendy side but is worth it."

  • "Good was great! Service was great! Will be one of our new regular favorites!"

  • "We have dined here many times. The food, service and ambience is what you would expect in an upper scale restaurant. Although I know many people like to be where the atmosphere is "Live" we enjoy making our dining experience about the people we are with. Cafe Vicino is a place we continue to frequent. I would recommend it highly."

  • "Reservations were easy online and our table was ready when we arrived, and, we had the best table in the house. They were very welcoming even with our two children, who are well behaved, but nevertheless children. The food was beautiful prepared, our waiter was very helpful with the wine and very understanding that to one of my children, veggies can cause spontaneous combustion and must never be eaten. All courses were exceptional, the resturant is elegant and very comfortable. Thank you."

  • "This place is FOR SURE a hidden gem! I would have never known about this restaurant honestly had it not been through word of mouth and availability on Open Table. Its not in a heavily trafficked area nor does it command any attention if you were to drive by. But inside, you forget all of that because the food is AMAZING. Italian dishes like you would expect in New York City. Truly a great find."

  • "An ordinary lunch in many restaurants would be the soup, sandwich, salad special. Those choices were on the menu at Vicino's, but why would anyone order the mundane? There are many other unusual and delightful options listed on the compact, but thoughtful menu here. A recent weekday lunch proved to be the perfect spot to quietly celebrate a special occasion. The food was memorable."

  • "Richard Langston, the chef and owner of Cafe Vicino in Boise's North End, is at the top of his profession. His cuisine is truly exceptional. Dining at Cafe Vicino is highly recommended, and we look forward to our next visit there."

  • "3rd visit to this restaurant and we had reservations. We still had to wait 20 minutes once we got there and we were on time. We were given a wine list but by the time the hostess ask for our order, it was time to go to our table. I had the new york steak which has alot of fat on it and it was tough. The fingering potatoes were hard in the center and I ordered the Caesar salad with anchovies and it literally had only one anchovy in it. It was a special occasion for my wife and I and she loved her meal I didn't want to ruin the moment so never brought it up until now. Lastly the woman wait staff was alittle abrupt, cold, and made us feel like we were putting her out. It will be awhile before we visit again. Disappointed"

  • "Had dinner on a busy Friday night with friends who were new to Cafe Vicino. Charming dining room. The most competent service in Boise. We shared a flat bread. Two in our group had soup and two opted for salads. I like the house salad but the beet salad was reported to be very good as well. For entrees we had chicken, pork chop and two of us had the special that night...halibut with fiddlehead ferns... a wonderful spring entree. I am curious about where they found the fiddlehead ferns? I don't see them on menus here very often."

  • "We had a " wonderful" birthday luncheon. The server was exceptional the food was exquisite ! It's very affordable and I'll be returning for sure. I just wish I'd discovered it earlier!"

  • "After waiting about 10 minutes, we still had not been greeted by a waiter, water, anything! Called attention to a nearby waitress--who apologized and took drink orders. Our waitress arrived with the drinks but never apologized, took our dinner orders and went on her way. Wow--how to be ignored! Food was good but not good enough to overcome the poor service. Wouldn't bother to return--too many other wonderful places--that care about your visit."

  • "A neighborhood gem, Cafe Vicino, attracts people from all over because of its amazing food. Inside is a lovely, well appointed space. And for me a wonderful place to dine, because I had a grilled pork chop with a red cabbage/cranberry slaw and tiny cubed potatoes, which I could eat as it was gluten free,....and by using oil instead of butter they accommodated my dairy allergy, too. I felt like a normal person eating a fantastic meal. So many meals in restaurants are pre-packaged, but at Vicino's it is made to order.... and done the right way."

  • "For years my Danish hairdresser in Sun Valley had told me to go to Cafe Vincino. He knows good food--been to NOMA in Copenhagen! My girlfriends and I finally made it this past Sat night. Wonderful food-great waiter-Joe; nice greeting at the door, everything was topnotch. Tak! Thanks in Danish! We'll be back for lunch."

  • "Booked for my hubby's birthday dinner. Upon arrival, we were a little disappointed in the atmosphere - in a semi-shabby strip mall type location across from the Coop. However, once inside, we were seated promptly and our waitress was awesome. She helped us pick out a meal with all her favorites (I HIGHLY recommend the pork chop). Started with Scallops which were huge and quite stellar, the stuffed dates are a MUST, the aforementioned pork chop, and an excellent bottle of wine :-). Half way through the meal, we realized we could walk over to the coop and grab desert on the way home allowing us to frequent two local establishments in one trip. This helped us get over the initial strip mall appearance."

  • "We have come to Cafe Vicino for years and before that to Richard's in Hyde Park. We have never been disappointed in our meal, whether it is lunch or dinner. The waitstaff are knowledgeable and friendly and the menu is always appetizing and changing. Our favorites are the grilled shrimp and the BLT. Nicely done! Thank you Richard for giving us a dining experience we can always count on."

  • "We went to Cafe Vicino for a special date night. The was tremendous and the service great. Chef Richard Langston had just received the James Beard Award and the evening's food and dining experience was evidence of why he won. You can't go wrong here."

  • "This is one of the best restaurants in Idaho. An intimate yet casual atmosphere, fabulous service, menu with a nice variety, interesting combinations, but not so many items that you are lost. Most importantly, the chef delivers exquisite results - with terrific execution of every item."

  • "We had a lovely dinner here for Valentine's Day. It was our first visit, and we enjoyed it a great deal. We'll be back soon. The beet gnocchi and kopke port were my favorite!"

  • "Ate here for Valentines, and the restaurant was packed. Noise level was still manageable. This was our first experience at this restaurant. Honestly, the salads and dessert were our favorite part of the meal! My husband had a steak and I had the pasta special - they were both very good but the arugula salad and dessert we had (salted caramel cheesecake and the special chocolate cake of the evening) were absolutely outstanding. My husband said he would not order the steak again, but I can highly recommend the pasta! We will be back."

  • "Café Vicino remains one of the best local eateries in Boise's downtown area. The food is, as much as possible, local and very well done. The ambiance is very friendly and professional. The service is outstanding. We keep going back both for lunches and dinners."

  • "This is our favorite restaurant in Boise and we plan on going back often. However, the short ribs were a great disappointment. Had them on New Years and ordered them again because they were ever so good. This time, though tender, they were more or less flavorless. Very disappointing."

  • "We enjoyed everything about Cafe Vicino. Food was amazing, service was great. It was nice to be able to go to a local/ upscale restaurant for a special occasion."

  • "Tried something new this time - the pasta with the prosciutto and squash - was delicious. It might have had just a tad more cream sauce to make it less dry, but I enjoyed it overall. And, it was probably better for me less the sauce. Service great as usual. Thanks!"

  • "I had a wonderful evening with girl friends. The service and food was exceptional. I brought home leftovers for my husband and they were so good it made him want to have dinner there. I'll be back and this time bring my husband! Many thanks!!"

  • "Cafe Vicinos is our favorite restaurant in Boise, and the one we go to when we want good food and wine, white linen table cloths, and a chance to talk. We have been here many times and the food and service are always excellent! The menu is varied with seasonal choices of seafood, meat, and vegetables. The Italian entrees are reliably excellent and a great price. My favorite is the home-made raviolis. Dessert choices are varied, too. I highly recommend this local gem!"
