Diner Reviews
  • "I took business colleagues here while they were in Boise from out of State. Everything was excellent, as it always is when I enjoy a meal at Cafe Vicino!"

  • "Cafe Vicino has always been our go-to place for special occasions. This time, though, it just seemed to be missing some of the things we always enjoy when we go there. The service was friendly but didn't seem as knowledgeable as in the past. After we finished our appetizers, our used silverware was not replaced. Our server occasionally stopped by to ask if everything was okay, but it seemed like more of an obligation than something he cared about. The menu is getting a bit same old, same old, and I think from now on I will avoid the pasta dishes -- they just aren't that great. Finally, decaf coffee -- although freshly made -- was undrinkable."

  • "Originally I am from Alaska thus I am very picky about the fish I order. I am hestitant to order seafood inland for fear of lack of freshness. My fear was definitely unfounded here! The halibut tasted like it was fresh caught that day. The preparation was light and flavorful! It was cooked to perfection, which means it was not over cooked or raw. The Caesar salad dressing had the right balance of anchovy and lemon. The croutons were fresh and the lettuce crisp. For dessert we shared three options. Lemon cheesecake with a salted caramel topping that was excellent! The second berry tart was good and the third lemon pound cake I would skip in the future. It was dry and near flavorless. Overall excellent! I will definitely return!"

  • "Cafe Vicino never fails to impress. It has an elegant but relaxed atmosphere, and the staff are friendly and professional. We love that certain favorites (the gorgonzola stuffed figs and the halibut with brown butter ravioli) were still on the menu since our last visit! But we also enjoyed some new things and nightly specials. We particularly loved the beet salad and the mushroom, greens and corn pudding vegetarian entree- both of which we had not previously tried. We splurged and each got a different dessert, since they all sounded too good to pass up. It was the highlight of our trip home after living out of the country for a year."

  • "I've been in most fine dining places from Chandlers to Barbacoa...and Cafe Vicino has the best tasting food. That tomato basil soup is simply yum. I would say that I was surprised at the casual atmosphere, I expected more formal, but I actually ended up liking the more relaxed atmosphere setting."

  • "We celebrated two birthdays on Aug 2 and had a wonderful evening with appetizers (smoked duck flatbread was excellent,) salads, main course, and dessert. Lovely evening. Cafe Vicino is reliably excellent! Thank you."

  • "The food was flavorful, the service was attentive (yet they did give myself and my date a stink eye with our lack of dressed up or high end apparel) and the ambiance was that of a stuck up retirement home. It has a long wine list and if you are willing to pay over $100 for a bottle of wine enjoying it in a tucked away hole in the wall cafe, next to the local co-op, then by all means I can imagine this would be a great place for you. It attempts to bring in a European cafe feel yet I feel as though it is uninviting and rather stuffy for a downtown Boise, Idaho restaurant."

  • "Went their for our 10th anniversary looking for a different place not a chain. The ambience was good but food not exceptional. I had the Weiser steak and it was extremely tough, my husband had pasta which was better. Service was very good but probably won't go back due to the food."

  • "As always, creative dishes, excellent presentation and service. The quintessential casual, yet elegant dining experience in Boise."

  • "Everything on the menu is delicious! This is Boise's best kept secret!!"

  • "Celebrated a birthday at Cafe Vicino. We requested a specific table on Open Table and happily got it. Dinner was very good. I always order salad as they are always very good. This time we had beet and house salads. One in our party had the soup of the day...bean. Our table ordered halibut, pork and a mushroom dish...all were excellent. We shared a berry tart. We ordered a bottle of pinot gris that we really enjoyed...nice selection of bottles under $40 which I appreciate. Service is always good. This is one of my favorite places for dinner in Boise. While we didn't order pasta this time...I often do as they have a great selection."

  • "Lovely! Definitely don't judge the place by it's storefront!"

  • "Café Vicino is a great for a special occasion-always interesting; always a quality experience; always first class."

  • "We we arrived, we were a little sketchy because of the location in the shopping center. Once we were inside our concerns were relieved because the decor was nice. They offered dining outside but because it was super hot that day we decided to eat inside. Overall the food we ordered was delicious and there were no complaints with the food, wine selection and local brew. The cold soup I had (suppose to be served cold) was delicious. If I am ever in the area again I wouldn't hesitate to go back."

  • "This is one of our favorite restaurants in Boise. Tried their special entree Mixed Lamb Grill on this occasion. Though I usually prefer beef, this combination was excellent! My wife's halibut was cooked to perfection. Ambiance and service always great."

  • "we love this place! we like to try different things on the menu, things that we wouldn't normally order and the food is always spectacular! and of course the service is excellent :)"

  • "The patio was quaint and comfortable, and the service was smart, thoughtful and knowledgeable. Shelly had great recommendations. Halibut was cooked perfectly, and had good acid balance with the sauce, chard and potato. However, while the linguine was a wonderful al dente and clams were plentiful the quality was less than expected. The clams were both rubbery on the outside and mushy on the inside, just simply not fresh. We will return but not order the clams."

  • "The food was great, service was wonderful, and the atmosphere was wonderful. However we were on the patio and the street noise is a little loud."

  • "We always have excellent service and food at Cafe Vicino. "

  • "My husband and I celebrated my birthday with dinner and it was all that we expected. The food and service were outstanding as always. I had the shortribs - cooked just right. My husband had the duck and really enjoyed it. The only dish we had that could have been better was the calimari appetizer - the breading was a bit heavy. Less coating is more with calimari. Otherwise, high praise!"

  • "The food was good but finding a hair in my risotto cakes ruined the dinner overall. I hope this is an isolated incident. The manager did remove the item from the bill."

  • "Cafe Viccino delivers excellence EVERY TIME I dine there. This was my 5th time enjoying a meal at Cafe Viccino and every time has been spectacular. This time, my husband and I were celebrating our anniversary. We had two appetizers and each ordered different pasta entrees. Every bite was excellent! Thanks for a great anniversary dinner!"

  • "I have been wanting to go to Cafe Vincino for years. I saw tables available on Open Table and we decided to go with a couple friends. Everything about our dining experience was great. The waiter was helpful, offered suggestions when asked, the table was perfect, and the food was very good. At our table we had the prosciutto chicken, short ribs, and lamb. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The restaurant was a little pricey, but it was worth it. "

  • "After the loss of La Vie en Rose, this stitches together a bit of the hole left in my heart. The wine selection is excellent, wait-staff are personable, and every menu choice has proven delectable. The figs alone are worth the trip!"

  • "I've always looked forward to my visits here but this time not so good...wines by the glass too limited, waiter over-attentive, the entree choices seemed way too full of 'this and that', and the special I ordered overloaded the plate and included too much of everything. The best thing was heir accommodating my request for half of a house salad which was just enough and very good."
    Dined on 4/14/2014
  • "Great food. Just on the spendy side but is worth it."

  • "Good was great! Service was great! Will be one of our new regular favorites!"

  • "We have dined here many times. The food, service and ambience is what you would expect in an upper scale restaurant. Although I know many people like to be where the atmosphere is "Live" we enjoy making our dining experience about the people we are with. Cafe Vicino is a place we continue to frequent. I would recommend it highly."

  • "Reservations were easy online and our table was ready when we arrived, and, we had the best table in the house. They were very welcoming even with our two children, who are well behaved, but nevertheless children. The food was beautiful prepared, our waiter was very helpful with the wine and very understanding that to one of my children, veggies can cause spontaneous combustion and must never be eaten. All courses were exceptional, the resturant is elegant and very comfortable. Thank you."

  • "An ordinary lunch in many restaurants would be the soup, sandwich, salad special. Those choices were on the menu at Vicino's, but why would anyone order the mundane? There are many other unusual and delightful options listed on the compact, but thoughtful menu here. A recent weekday lunch proved to be the perfect spot to quietly celebrate a special occasion. The food was memorable."

  • "3rd visit to this restaurant and we had reservations. We still had to wait 20 minutes once we got there and we were on time. We were given a wine list but by the time the hostess ask for our order, it was time to go to our table. I had the new york steak which has alot of fat on it and it was tough. The fingering potatoes were hard in the center and I ordered the Caesar salad with anchovies and it literally had only one anchovy in it. It was a special occasion for my wife and I and she loved her meal I didn't want to ruin the moment so never brought it up until now. Lastly the woman wait staff was alittle abrupt, cold, and made us feel like we were putting her out. It will be awhile before we visit again. Disappointed"

  • "Had dinner on a busy Friday night with friends who were new to Cafe Vicino. Charming dining room. The most competent service in Boise. We shared a flat bread. Two in our group had soup and two opted for salads. I like the house salad but the beet salad was reported to be very good as well. For entrees we had chicken, pork chop and two of us had the special that night...halibut with fiddlehead ferns... a wonderful spring entree. I am curious about where they found the fiddlehead ferns? I don't see them on menus here very often."
